***** Well, people I actually listen to predicted Trump would win. I wasn't wrong. They weren't wrong. The problem with liberals is they have lost touch with reality. The media was simply spinning their echo chamber. It was completely obvious to people with common sense. Trae is just your run of the mill moron. Listening to him is like listening to some drunk at the bar who says he can predict the outcome of football games. The fact that many liberals can't spot a BS artist is a big part of their problem.

Strange Days - How was it obvious that Trump would win, when he lost the popular vote and didn't win the electoral college by a landslide?

    • @laurah.77
      @laurah.77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Oh, I don't think liberals (or a good number of conservatives either) had any trouble spotting a bullshit artist. In fact, 2.5 million (and counting) more voters were able to correctly identify the bullshit artist in this election, and make a wiser choice. Doesn't Secretary Clinton now have the largest popular vote margin in history for anyone who suffered a potential electoral college loss? Clearly there's still a majority of American voters can still recognize and avoid the stench of a bullshit artist, so at least that's encouraging.
But all that aside, you seem to be under the impression that Trae didn't realize that there was strong support for Trump in working-class America. Didn't you even *listen* to Trae these past months? Far from being wrong, he was in fact *precisely* right about how those voters thought and what they'd do. That's part of what makes him funny. His uncanny accuracy. The week before the election he begged them not to do what he knew they'd do, because unlike so many of the people he loves, Trae was *also ^able to identify the bullshit artist billionaire who was playing them and he tried with all his heart to warn them. To warn us all.
And he's precisely right about how they'll respond when Trump starts handing plums to his rich cronies with no regard for the long-term economic viability of Appalachia or working class whites across America. They won't blame Trump, because that would be uncomfortably close to blaming themselves for falling for a con man. They'll twist their brains into knots in order to blame anything and anyone but Trump. And how does Trae know this? Because he lives among them and they are the people he loves and knows. It's the same way I know it.

I know this is an ancient comment, I’m sure no one will see this (so maybe a good place to rant a bit, I hope you don’t mind!)
I just have this to add to your spot-on list:
      4th - Baby Killin.’
BUT only those “babies” that are still in the womb & can’t survive independently of the mother - you know, the human object that exists solely for the purpose of baby-makin’.
Once that baby is born… and the mother-object is struggling to care for it (for at least 18 yrs) while working her minimum wage job (or 3,) yet still finding it impossible to provide for the bare minimum of survival needs & a decent life….
Or once the baby is in school, i.e. being subjected to (and, as a child, forced to cope with the fear & anxiety of facing) the daily risk of getting shot…
Or once the kid begins to realize it was born with some innate differences in sexuality and/or born in the wrong body, endures being bullied & mistreated, has a far greater likelihood of a plethora of self-destructive behaviors & even suicide… bc it is forced to survive in a world that is cruel & discriminatory simply due to the brain/body it was born with…
      well, screw ‘em.
And the mother-object, you ask? What about her hopes & dreams? Her goals, ideas, talents & gifts that she longs to share with the world, the contributions she was born to make? Her interests, passions & desires for her life? Her right to choose - even have a say - in determining the course of her entire life - her only life - for herself?
What about her standing as an “equal” citizen of this nation - where she is required to follow the laws & pay her equitable share of taxes, where she votes - the nation that has been her home, that she loves (and has possibly served) as a patriot, where she is promised the same “inalienable” rights as all other Americans? What about her humanity, her very personhood, her bodily autonomy? What about her freedom to choose - to even have a say - on what happens to her own body, based on all the above plus much more- her personal, financial, relational & even health reasons?
      Well, she’s just an object.
      None of that stuff applies.
If by some strange chance someone has read this, thank you for allowing me to have a voice. Even just on YT.
      Peace to all. 💛

Nothing about Trump's personality would endear him to anyone in the south. I'm also amazed because he's a crass New Yorker and that usually isn't a good fit for southerners. As a center-liberal college educated member of the “coastal elite”, who grew up in 1960s middle-class suburban New Jersey and has been living in a medium sized New England city for the past 35 years I have also discovered the following:
My city a very large number of southern “rednecks”. People don’t realize this because MY “rednecks” - who are mostly from North Carolina are descendants of African slaves. They work “working class” jobs, many are into guns, many are “quick to anger”, they don’t like being “talked down to”, are suspicious of “elites”, and love drive their ATVs and motocross motorcycles all over town on Saturday night. It really IS uncanny.
Yeah…”racism” may be a component of how Americans perceive what is “redneck”…but its cultural origins really DO have a strong class and regional component to it. Two generations later the grandkids all have white collar jobs if they can somehow manage to ditch the southern accent - a liability for anyone of any race trying to make it in what stands as the “elite working world” north of the Mason Dixon line.
Uber-Conservative Black social theorist Thomas Sowell actually wrote a book on the subject: Black Rednecks and White Liberals

People are people, not easily defined blocks.
I'm Asian, but my father remarried into a white southern family.
Through this, I've gotten to know and learn about a completely different culture and of family-strong, hardworking values.
Its a weird statement to hear from an Asian, but people forget white people are people too.
Not all southerners are poor, bigoted and uneducated.
    They come in all kinds.
Southerners were not only the people to call in the police on Martin Luther King and civil rights leaders, they were also the people marching WITH Martin Luther King and civil rights leaders.
It really is hard to watch so many people write off so many people as lost causes and as bigots because of their background.
I find more and more that working class southerners have way more in common with my family's immigrant background, and that we have much less in common with the rich politician types that call to us on television.
I just want to say to everyone that people like Trae are the South too, and that they are the southerners forgotten too often.
I think, if people were to listen and get to know them as a whole and didnt write them off, they would not be scared or angered into voting for men like Trump.

There's a lot of false information floating around, so maybe this isn't true, but I heard that the median income of the Trump voters was $72000 a year. That's not poor whites, or poor anybody. That's middle class or working class. Again, if it's true, half of college-educated women voted for him. I still don't think I understand what happened. But it's clear to me it was something dark and ugly. I think it will take time and perspective to understand and turn it around.

It's like Hillary supporters trying to blame Bernie supporters. She didn't get votes from people who voted for Trump, people who didn't vote at all, etc. She got far less votes than Obama did. It was a lot more than Bernie supporters who didn't vote for her. And by the way, she's to blame because she's a terrible candidate. .
