Hey, my tension is set to fit the thread type being used - you need to 'play with yours to get it right', but I've moved my stitch width dial to fit 1/8" thickness. So it's smaller than the usual width that the serger is set at when you first get it.
This is so much easier than the other pattern where you had to sew the front and back and then EASE the sides. If I want to resize it I can just add more seam allowance. Thank goodness for my serger!! Side note: I did purchase your pattern from Etsy.
I enjoyed your three part tutorial very much. Excellent illustration. Easy to understand. I also wanted to say I thought it was going to be an earthquake when you bumped your head on the camera! lol.
My son wants a welding cap and love your tutorial-how much fabric is needed? Waiting for him to send me the measurments and want to know if my cotton stash would be enough! Mary.
Found the page for the cutting instructions! Thank you!!! My question is this……my son has a welding cap (we bought) and the tag says 7 3/8”. Does the pattern have that size??
Yes, there's two other videos that talk about how to read & use the paper DBK cap pattern & one that's shows how I cut the fabric using that paper pattern... they should all be in the same series... if you're unable to see them, let me know & I can email a link to you directly...
I've never used an overlock foot to make a cap, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work? If anyone else has any ideas about this, please chime in!...
Hi there! I do not have a serger, I am only using my sewing machine. I’ve been sewing my pieces together using the 1/8” line. I’ve noticed the caps I’ve made have been pointy up top. How can I fix this if I don’t have a serger?
Hey, Good question :) The serger will generally cut the edges of fabric as you stitch, this is what gives a nice even & curved edge as you sew. So, without a serger, I would recommend that you use a fabric marker to mark a nice curved lined along the top edge a 1/8" away from the sewing line, cut away the excess at the top & stitch that down like normal. Let me know how that goes? DBK Welding Caps
Hey, my serger is set at a 'scant' 1/4" & my sewing machine needle is set to center - I use the inside guide of the presser foot for a 1/8" top stitch :)
Just bought this pattern, my son raves about your caps! I didn’t realize there was a video! Thanks!
Thanks & Your Welcome :)
I would like to purchase the welding cap pattern please

Hi what setting do you have your serger on?

Mary.
Hey :) You will need a 1/4" yard (or 9" of WOF) for one cap with a liner... it's all in the pattern instructions for you...
Thank you so much for this video!!
You are so welcome!

Yes we do :)
I’m seeing part 1 where all the fabric is cut. Is there a video before this one?

Do I have to have a serger to do this? Or will an overlock foot work?

Thank you.
What material do you use for ht liner
I use cotton fabric & cotton thread 👍
What size seam are you using on the serger and the other machine?
