It breaks my heart that young fellas like him in working class communities have no work, this is why they do drugs and get depressed and have no hope. My generation all had jobs and people had a sense of purpose. We didn't have much money but we felt more valued than the young do now. How crazy that we think open borders is going to improve their situation. They're hungry for purpose.

They are not doing drugs because they are just out of a job. These problems are going back decades.
My father was out of work at times and he never turned to drugs. Society and its current values are driving these young people to drugs.
The liberal socialist media has glamourize a fake counter culture which kept morphing and morphing until it became a reality TV culture.
What has happened has occurred on several fronts. Unemployment alone does not explain the single parent epidemic that has taken the UK by storm.

It is a shame that so many people are rendered unemployable by (unjust) criminal records due to drug offences and homelessness.
Having spoken to 3 homeless men, albeit a small sample size, only 1 was there because of drug addiction.
The other two had family issues that left them homeless, the lack of (social) housing for homeless men left them unsuitable for employment. Neither had identification or a bank account so couldn't get a job even if they were offered. The current system, by which employers must pass all of their employee wages through online-banking (to avoid fraud) makes employment unbelievably difficult.
This system also makes (small) businesses almost impossible to start up, as one would have to set up pensions for their employees, ensure all regulations for whatever trade were being followed, take out liability insurance and so on... The entry costs for small businesses are astronomical and although some areas of regulation may be necessary (healthcare, housing, consumer safety), at the same time much de-regulation is needed. Employers shouldn't be expected to sort out employee pensions.

Do you think his prospects actually getting a job would improve if he didn't drink and take drugs? Would you hire such people if you ran a struggling business and you had many other qualified applicants to choose from who could actually express themselves succinctly (and not just about how wonderful taking MDMA and smoking "skunk" are)? He needs responsibility that he can be proud of himself for in order to show himself that he is worth being proud of and that he _can_ accomplish things. A simple job where he is given a small amount of responsibility will provr to himself that he has value to society & will rightfully show him that he isnt just some lowly street rat on benefits, but that he is an intelligent, strong, capable man & that will bring his self-esteem, sense of self worth, dignity & confidence in his ability to succeed, up to where it is rightfully supposed to be.

This person is in the exact same position as I was in in my late teens and early 20s. The benefit system is so flawed, they make you feel worthless when they're supposed to be helping you. The amount that you get helps, but is hardly going to pay for your rent let alone food and other basic necessities. On top of that, you have friends, family and random strangers making you feel like you're the problem and it's you that is to blame for your situation. It's no wonder that so many people turn to drugs as a form of escape and alleviation of the stress and anxiety. The only way I got out of it was by studying in college and getting a degree at university. I've just graduated, but it feels like I'm back to square one as the opportunities that were meant to arise are so few. It's a vicious cycle of building yourself up to just be kicked down again and prejudiced against by those who have succeeded. "It was easy for me, why not for you?" Mentality.

Labour haven't helped that young than have they in Wales. The social engineering, is there any reason why he can't go to college and get a trade behind him? Did the schools in Wales take the trades out of schools like they did in England? When my generation went to school, the boys had a choice of woodwork and metalwork, they also did cooking and pottery too. The girls did needlework, machining, taught how to make their own clothes.Every country requires the trades and tradesmen. Drugs are an escape from reality and the pressure that has been put upon young people, the lives of the youth haven't become an exciting adventure due to the social engineering and mass immigration that has been going for decades. If the youth can't express their creativity, their potential as people is restricted so they express themselves anyway that they can.

colleges are highly restricted to people over 25 , you have to pay for courses and most don't accept Education grants at a college level so if you don't have the base grades to get into a foundation uni course to get a grant to pay for said course.
you'll be stuck in a loophole unless you get lucky to a get a college grant (by interview etc etc) and or your local college have free courses plus the space is limited too.
he could go back to college but the free courses have no Real Trade value it won't help him get a job , you could have a level 2 in retail but this Generation having a bit of paper for retail means nothing it is just evidence of competence and a way for companies to not train you properly in a working enviroment , some people do better with hands on experience and some could have all the academic competence but no competence in a real work place. so in the end it is just better to hire someone you think that will cope and train them in the first place rather than making people jump through hoops just to get to the interview stage.

@@don_barbour You do realize he agrees with you, right? Both of you want drugs to be *legal and regulated*, not illegal and unregulated as they are now. That's how drugs end up being made from unideal precursors, which either end up in the finished product, or which ends up creating other toxic chemicals as byproducts. That's how you get a drug like "Krokodil", which makes people lose limbs, because they make it from codeine tablets/pills, iodine, red phosphorus, paint thinner, and hydrochloric acid in their kitchen. "Krokodil" is, of course, just impure Desomorphine. Desomorphine made in a lab does not make people lose limbs. edit: Desomorphine shares safety profile with Morphine and Diacetylmorphine, and is safer than any Heroin you can find by definition; even though Heroin = Diacetylmorphine. But again, Heroin is just the impure, home made version of Diacetylmorphine.

The shambolic welfare reform that was enforced by Iain Duncan Smith needs to be seriously addressed as it's causing so much stress, heartache and destitution amongst claimants. Also, rural areas and small towns are in serious need of investment as all of the decent, regular/permanent contracts are down south. Also, wages are not in line with the cost of living. The UK is a really expensive to live unless you have plenty of capital.

I suppose its better than the previous which was run by Monster Jobs, they used to repeat the same jobs at least 3 times at once on the website to make it look like there where more jobs out there than there actually was. I am currently unemployed and i dont even go into the jobcentre anymore since i started saying, where are all these bloody foreigners coming from, they are getting national insurance numbers and none of them can even speak english and its a tidal wave of them. So now the jobcentre just ring me on my signing day and ask me if ive been a good boy and send me my money, its absolutely bizarre ive never seen anything like this...

I want to work, I want a life and I can't because I am so anxious and paranoid and it has crossed my mind non-stop weather smoking cannabis will be more helpful than the NHS and whatever other services that claim to help.

I want to be treated like a fucking human being.
I want an employer to just give me a chance.
I want to not be told "get on that fucking production line and do that by this time otherwise ya getting the sack you riffraff piece of shit"
I want to earn a good wage.

    I want to be valued
I want to have the prospect of becoming a manager one day
I want to have a house of my own
I want a wife and kids.
I want to be happy in my work
    I want to smile
But i cant obtain any of this atm.
A little bit of cannabis every now and again helps to relax. No different then having a glass of wine to me.

This young man is articulating the issue really rather well. His work ethic is quite admirable. Three employment options once Brexit is achieved, could be to:
1] Bring shipbuilding and fishing back to the coastal cities and towns of the UK and regulate the Unions.
2] Reinvigorate the Commonwealth. Countries like Canada and Australia are rich in raw materials and would benefit from direct trade with the UK and could supply the UK with the materials needed for a revitalization of industry and building.
3] Build new towns on the model proposed by Sir Roger Scruton of recreating a town like Bath, is his instance, where 'place' replaces just battery housing. Building sustainable livable and pleasant places for people to live and supply work for carpenters, plumbers and electricians. This could all be implemented through common sense central planning if the socialists brutalists were removed, the way it has been done in the UK prior to the mid 20th century.
