Jungle sounds - morning in the Borneo rainforest

  • Jungle mornings in Borneo are pretty lively, with plenty of birds singing and mammals calling. At Maliau Basin there are many troops of Gibbons whose calls resonate through the valleys. In this recording you can also hear the more subtle calls of Langurs which can be mistaken for creaking trees. Plenty of birdsong and bird calls offer a continuous backdrop with occasional siren-like chirps of cicadas breaking the harmony.
    Recorded in the Borneo rainforest with Zoom F6 recorder, Lom MikroUsi Pro micropohones and BubbleBee Windbubbles. I left the drop rig out in the undergrowth for 24 hours so I could capture a full day-night cycle. Enjoying the videos I upload on here? Feel free to support me by:

    Thank you so much for what you're doing. It goes way beyond providing people relaxation and, in cases like mine, resurfacing memories of the past field trips. It might be so, should humanity stay as primitive as it is, that such recordings will be invaluable after these places will be lost forever. So, again, thank you!

      Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping these places will not be lost forever though, and I'm trying to use my recordings to convince people that these places are worth saving.

      Those cicadas sounded otherworldly, especially in the context of a beautiful melodious dawn chorus.

    This is another incredible recording. On this one you write that you used a Zoom F6 and recorded for 24 hours. Did you use a 20K powerbank ? Why did you chose a Zoom F6 rather than the Sony handheld recorders that you usually use for drop rigs which you mentioned in another video?

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used both a 26800 Anker powerbank and a Hawkwoods DV-F990 battery in this case. The handheld Sony recorders I use don't provide phantom power and only record to 2 channels and I was recording with 3 phantom-powered mics on this occasion.

    Another great piece of work. ! I have another question.. How come your youtubes are always exactly 1 hour and 40 seconds?

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! I initially created an Adobe After Effects project and wanted to make it over 1 hour. Every time I create a new video I just replace the content in the same project and save it as a new one, which results in another 1 hour and 40 second video. I guess it also looks good and consistent when all the soundscape videos are the same length, and luckily I have plenty of recorded material to accommodate this random length.

    Is this all one recording or layered from multiple recordings? Such a diverse environment with a plethora of sounds.

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Just one recording, didn’t need to layer anything to achieve this soundscape.

    Gorgeous. Have you ever explored pairing your audio with video capture of the environment?

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I've thought about that and even used video instead of static images in some of my content. It takes a lot more work and processing power but I think it's worth it. I will definitely shoot more video on location on my upcoming expeditions.

    amazing sound of nature. Would a Sony PCM D100 alone be able to capture such quality of sound? I like to backpack in the woods but won't want to carry lots of gear. Thanks

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A D100 would get you decent recordings but you would need to add an external pair of mics to get that nice stereo image and low noise that I achieved with this rig.

    • @donaldpang
      @donaldpang 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Vlad thanks ! I read your gears article not sure if I came across any recommendations of a reasonably priced mic to pair with this recorder?

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My favorite are Lom mikroUsi but they're not that easy to get because they're very popular. A pair of Clippy EM172 will offer great results for a small price.

    Did u record this from Sony PCMD100 Portable High Resolution Audio/Voice Recorder ,??? If so amazing

    • @GeorgeVlad
      @GeorgeVlad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, I recorded this with a Zoom F6 and Lom MikroUsi Pro mics as stated in the description. The D100 is a great piece of kit though and would have performed well in this situation.
