'Modern entertainment journalists' are just an extension of the Hollywood elite. The suits want to dictate audience tastes and got pissy when people wouldn't swallow their garbage. So, they sent down a decree to their glorified marketing people (journalists) that anyone to goes against the industry narrative is 'toxic'
@@ItsMcDude Pretty sure that was just contractors being brought in to make changes then leaving after the contract was up, which happens a *lot* in the industry when you've gotta get a project done and are running out of time to do so.
What SJWs really mean when they say “toxic fans” is actual fans of an IP that are justifiably angry about it being butchered for the sake of petty politics.
It would seem that the definition of “toxic fans” has been slowly morphed by Hollywood and journalists from “people who didn’t lavish praise on our film”
Yeah. "You didn't like the absolute low effort confusing studio interfering garbage with terrible visuals? Let me unfairly attempt to discredit you with personal attacks for not liking my horse crap."
I honestly don't even care if the film is good or not. The fact that HBO Max is allowing Zack Snyder's true vision to be released, the studio actively made an attempt to fix the theatrical mess of a movie, and that some of the money raised for this project goes toward the suicide prevention foundation is enough to earn my respect. As for y'all urinalists, you can go watch Brie Larson's "feminist icon" movie if you don't like it
They are doing it solely for the marketing value of it. You're giving the studio too much credit. The same studio which fire Zack after his daughter commited suicide and replaced him without a second thought & released a half ass movie in the first place. I'm not that much of a fan of Zack or his vision, but damn! The studio fucked him upside down and threw him in the sidewalk. He reserved better.
It involves nothing but MONEY, and selling HBO MAX subscription service. They know they will get all that donated money, and then some back for this move. It has absolutely nothing to do with the "fans". The fact that they have to re-film scenes, and film new scenes shows you this didn't exist. There was no Snyder Cut. You can polish a piece of shit all you want, it will still be a piece of shit in the end. This one will just be 4 hours of shit, instead of 2 and a half.
@@Sunkcostfallecy They didn't fire him. He stepped down from the position during his family crisis. The studio did what they could to salvage a film, and hoped that the "Avengers Treatment" would get them there. Not that you can please so-called fans anyway. But here’s the thing Sarina, the theatrical cut of Justice League wasn’t even artistic. It was just a corporate mess and a Frankenstein’s monster with no passion involved behind it or even any merit. I am sorry to all the naysayers but if you call the monstrosity that released in theaters as artistic and call people who want to avoid said films and boycott them as toxic, then I will gladly be toxic and want to burn any trace of those films or products to ashes and start with a new one.
@@sarinat3101 Yeah you were saying the same thing. I made a lapse in my understanding of your comment but I was initially adding to your point as well and not disagreeing with it.
Here's a weird/sad thought: DC and Marvel have, since the beginning, been playing two radically different tones for their works (All the way back to the actual print comics) so, when the director who has been doing most of the work for setting the tone for one company had to take a short sabbatical to deal with a death in the family, the EXACT WRONG move would be for that company to hire the director who had done most of the work for setting the tone for the OTHER COMPANY To hastily slap together the puzzle pieces that were already sorted and laid out and instead of making this puzzle of a picture of the Grim Reaper, he makes a picture of kittens... And, it's totally the fans' faults for not just consooming...
@@nachiketh3650 Poor wording, then, he is who people tend to think of when they think of DC movies' directors... Besides Batman, what other major DC movies have there been recently that also came out before Man of Steel?
"If you listen to your customers, they're more likely to buy your product." so interesting that so many people in Hollywood STILL don't get this simple fact. In my opinion, regardless of the possibility that the movie/series/whatever is going to be good or not (based on what I heard, it's not going to be hard), this "listen to the audience" thing alone should be commended and encouraged. About the "toxic fandom" thing, it's true that there is some degree of toxicity in every fandom, but not all fandom is toxic. Jim Carrey, about the redesign of Sonic, said that fans shouldn't have power on how a movie should be made. He was quickly disproven by Sonic The Movie box office and overall audience response. Should the Sonic original design (now a meme by itself) have been approved and defended at all costs, fan outrage would have exploded and the IHM (Internet Hate Machine) would have moved at full speed, but now everything seems to be right and quiet. Moreover, a sequel has been announced.
Ah my friend, but what you are missing is the fact that WE are no longer the customer they are trying to get. That honor belongs to China and as long as the Chinese spend their money on eyecandy that makes them feel like America without having the actual freedoms of America then they are the ones that the movies are made for. Nice shiny safe movies with lots of product placement and loving governments that would never betray the trust of their people, with none of the complicated plot that might make people think for themselves.
I think you're misunderstanding what Jim's point was. He was kinda speaking out against the very things that turned Snyder's Justice League into Josstice League. The the outspoken criticism of Snyder's DCEU (many of which I do agree with) made WB so nervous about Justice League that they hired Joss to rework it just like how the outspoken criticism of Sonic's original design made the studio so nervous that they decided to remake the design into something something like the games. One just had a better outcome than the other. I think Jim what Jim was trying imply that in most cases the audience shouldn't have the power to rework major aspects of a movie before it's even come out.
I'm still holding my breath on KK until we see a Star Wars movie that directly refutes her utterly shit identity politics... It's easy to support diversity without boiling it down to ... what ever the fuck the sequel trilogy was. That shit just needs to be retconned, and hard.
I love the fact that the movie which marks a turning point in the history of cinema is... Sonic The Hedgehog: it'll go down in history as the first time that audience's feedback had an actual effect in the outcome of a movie production.
Poor old Scotty didn't have a great weekend, did he. You'd think that getting very publicly humiliated by a world renowned director would be bad enough, but then Scotty goes into bat for noncery and perversion and makes that seem like a golden summer afternoon in comparison. I'd step away from the keyboard for a while, Scotty.
And that is why he's finished in Hollyweird. He apparenly does not, and will not, kiss the required amount of ass, nor the sacrosant asses (#metoo, BLM)
He looks like a normal dude - play games, build his own PC, read books, doesn't have angry tantrums against movie fans...pretty weird for Hollyweird. :-)
Some left wing urinalist probably gonna frame it as a "nasty thing to say". Of course, Brie Larson says her movie wasnt made for half the F***** country and she's "brave".
Cool story: when I was stationed at Edwards AFB in 2012, Man of Steel was being shot at different places around the base. Well I worked F-35 test out there and Lockheed Martin/Air Force let the movie use one of our 35s for shooting some scene. Well it was my jet that was used for the shoot so me and a crew of about 8 guys got to go in on Saturday and be in that scene with our jet. We got to hang out with basically the entire cast for like 16 hours on that Saturday. Zack Snyder, Amy Adams, Chris Meloni, Henry Cavill, everyone. It was a cool fucking experience. We almost ran Amy Adams over with an aircraft tug when she tripped running in front of one for a scene. Too bad everything we shot was cut, lol.
Remember when people were mad that Sony was going to end their relationship with Disney and not have Spiderman in the MCU anymore or when fans were outrage at how Sonic looked in the live action movie? No one seemed to care about how fans reacted to that but as soon as fans wanted to see the directors cut of the Justice League all of a sudden their called "toxic fans"
That's not true at all, people complained about "toxic fans" for the latter and people defended Disney to the death (until they found out that Disney was demanding an even larger share of the profit while they already had a sizeable amount).
I think it was because there were actually a group of actually toxic fans that brought up the snydercut in the most unfortunate of circumstances. for example, literally any news shared by WB twitter was swarmed with #releasethesnydercut including news about people passing away etc. But at the same time, the other 2 things didn't take as long for the studios to respond to the fans so it didn't get to the same level of 'toxic'. I'm happy the snyder cut is happening but there were definitely toxic fans of this movement.
(People wanted Disney to rehire James Gunn) The media: "Wow! What a bunch of dedicated fans!!" (People wanted a director's actual version of a movie to be released) The media: "Wow! These people are as toxic as the most toxic Star Wars fans!!"
@Funk O'Matic In every fandom you are going to get nutters. The people who are calling the Snyder fans toxic are the same people who were mocking, being hateful, making fun of Zack daughter suicide, said it didnt exist and were saying nasty things to this movement for years but there behaviour was not toxic?. Grace Randolph said the cut existed after the theatrical one came out she said she got so much hate.

And you've gotta give Snyder some props for using it in the story. It just shows he understands the Superman story. I liken it to the Hulk-buster armor the fans wanted Marvel to show in the Avengers. It's nice to give the fans what they want to see. That's just how you do it.

It will be disappointing. I don't know what Snyder needs to do to finally prove to all of you that he sucks. It will be another nail in the coffin for DC. I wish they had just lifted the stories from the Superman Animated Series, just do a live action version of that. The episode where Superman and Batman first meet. There's a movie. The episode where Batman disappears (mind controlled by Braniac) and Superman dresses up as him. There's a movie. Then the Darkseid episodes. That's 2 movies. Then they could start up the Justice League.

This is a commentary on how Hollywood should operate moving forward. Sometimes the fans are correct. Sometimes the fans are wrong. Today, the fans have spoken.
And sometimes the fans are way too full of themselves. Especially going by how awful Snyder's previous DC movies were, how exactly is he going to "fix" Justice League? By adding lots and lots of black and grey colors to make it even uglier?
I mean..... no one's rlly any ones one's fan tbh..... All of us are just customers..... AT&T just happened to be the biggest telecommunications, media and tv provider out there.....
Superman wears a black suit. Batman: "Well one of us has got to change." On The Phone: "Alfred, iron the blue and red suit - I'm sending the flyboy over." :D
Counterpoint: everything about Justice League Theatrical (and Rise of Palpatine) was the result of execs listening to a wide swath of the most vocal customers available. Really interesting that they're willing to make this a 4-hour miniseries. People know that these blockbusters often have hours of material on the cutting room floor, and that's why the plot is often such a mess. And now even a major studio is saying "yeah, this would be better as a miniseries instead of 1 awkward movie." Basically admitting their approach (second-guessing their ideas over and over midstream) makes for awful movies. But they know that people will still pay for the theater experience of watching special effects with a crowd, so they feel safe admitting that. The fact that HBO Max is allowing Zack Snyder's true vision to be released, the studio actively made an attempt to fix the theatrical mess of a movie, and that some of the money raised for this project goes toward the suicide prevention foundation is enough to earn my respect.

"If you listen to your customers, they're more likely to buy your product."
so interesting that so many people in Hollywood STILL don't get this simple fact.
Hollywood wants you to pay to be brainwashed, they don't care about what (you) want.

Thats unless you mean "have GRRM direct it" in which case, maybe, but i want him to finish the books after 10 years...
@@truefalcon6884 True... D&D had no good vision... it seems they just stopped giving a F.
I'd suspect IF GRRM finishes the books, there will be another adaptation, but it'll take a while. I'd suspect a decade after ADoS is released.
Game of Thrones needs to rot. It's miserable hell world fiction, where everyone should have been turned into White Walkers with how much the whole damn lot of them spent so much time either murdering each other, or fucking each other, instead of focusing on the actual threat and fighting each other later.
@@FrayAdjacentTX they basically just took what big ideas George likely had and thought "How do we get this done in as few episodes as possible?" And that's what we got. What should have been at least two or three full length seasons in 13 episodes.
So yeah, no vision to speak of lol
Unfortunately, those were the original writers who just gave up and rushed. That was their vision.
I just finished the Snyder cut and I enjoyed it. Was it a masterpiece of cinema? No, but it was fun to watch and the ending sequence was amazing! Can't wait for Drinker to do his review!
Dec 22, and I finally saw it, and with very low/no real expectations I was quite wowed and enjoyed it.
"Toxic" meaning?? fighting for a true finished arc for certain characters? fighting for a director who was treated terribly by a film studio after losing his daughter? donating money to suicide prevention using #releasethesnydercut?. Yeah, so toxic! Anyone who thinks these fans are toxic really need to think of the type of human being they are. Yes, within all fan bases there are toxic fans, but the true Snyder cut fans are genuine, nice people fighting for this movie, not bashing another franchises, simply just supporting what they believe in and by doing so has uncovered some very nasty people within the industry.
You can’t call them toxic for being passionate about something they love, but you can’t call them nice either for being Zack Snyder fans. The completion of their favorite characters’ arcs is their chief desire, not suicide prevention. Read your comment; what did you write first?
@@ezioauditore6963 Of course their chief desire was to get the film released, they're not denying that. but they saw something good they could do at the same time. Regardless of the their desire, a lot of money has been raised so what's the problem?

Darkseid is just more popular. Take me for example. I haven't read a single comic in my entire life but I am familiar with a name Darkseid. On the other hand who tf is Blackfire?
@@ericfrolov148 Blackfire is a 2nd rate teen titans villain and Starfire's sister, so the idea to make her the big bad is just stupid, better alternatives would be people like Imperiex. The Aniti-Monitor, Trigon, Neron and many others who aren't Blackfire.

It says a lot about what movies have become: a movie isn't *supposed* to tell a good story, that's a miniseries' job. A movie is just supposed to give you a loud dumb rollercoaster ride.
Well now it will be a full 4 hours length film. Interesting and exciting
Combing through the things Zack has talked about the unseen plans for his DCEU and being a HUGE fan of Zack and BvS, I'm soooo looking forward to the Snyder Cut and all that Snyder has in store. (God I love DC)
Now that you mentioned Sonic: The Hedgehog, I think studios are beginning to realize that listening to your fans has a huge amount of merit. I can't help but think that without what happened with Sonic, we would've never get a Snyder Cut of JL.
Or studios realize outrage is free promotion and intentionally release something shitty so they can be seen as heroes for fixing it, basically doubling profits. Calling it now they will begin to make "alternate cuts" of films just to cash in on the same content twice. Mark my words.
@@BlunderB Exactly. This isn't a fandom finally forcing a corporation to bend to their will. This is a corporation needing a centerpiece for their new streaming service and deciding to exploit fans desires.
@@danielallen3454 Correct this is just the illusion of communication when in reality the corps are still in 100% power and feigning community to "Give them what they want". This is a dangerous road and I think it's the same as video games have gone through. I am really surprised more people don't see this.
One year later, fans were right. Zack heard them.
The heroes have an arch, the villain is capable, the discussion scene was completely redesign, the story makes sense now.
And it still managed to be forgettable.

You said everything perfectly, Drinker. “listen to the fans/customers” it’s as easy as that. Thank you for your video.
You do realize they are doing that only so they could cash in on the movie second time, right?

I bring you, the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2.
the counter argument is the special edition of New Hope (but I am glad this is getting made)
"This didn't go down well with Zack Snyder fans. And yes this is a thing, apparently."
As funny as that is, I am glad that Zack and the fans got what they wanted. Zack really did get stabbed in the back by Warner Brothers and I think he deserves to deliver whatever his "vision" was. While I probably won't like this movie, it definitely has my curiosity.
i think the same but i am certain what we are getting will be a big upgrade from the justice league we got
Agreed,i just hope they don't keep Snyder around after this. Or at least keep him away from Superman, give him Batman,he's good with Batman.
Jammy Gamer it’s something new and different
This cut is just a way to make money from that curiosity.
That backhanded insult to both snyder and his fans haha. People really despise them, don't they...
4 hours sounds great. The theatrical cut was so rushed and empty, the story needs a lot more time for its characters.
“Take note Lucasfilm” that hits hard. What a waste of 3 movies
Not the mention it was the last chance to have original trio back together for one last adventure and they fucked up.

@Starscream91 you're wrong. Over many years, around the world, tv broadcasts of Superman 2 once in a while had a new scene. Fans wondered what was going on. There were several, now inactive, websites devoted to this. Eventually, this led to a letter writing campaign to WB. Snail mail. Not by using Comic-con, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
