If we walk away, Joseph continues his tyrannical reign over Hope County, and the nukes would go off at some point. @no u The Secret Walk Away ending doesn't show the nukes because it ends on the night that Marshal Burke came to Hope County in the first place, and the nukes came at least weeks after that. It's not clear how much time, it's however long it takes for the deputy to liberate Hope County. You spend at least a few days in a cage when kidnapped by Jacob, plus however many days are spent in Holland Valley and Hembane River. "Hundreds dead, and it's YOUR fault" Yeah, and how many deaths are Joseph Seed's fault? I killed his cultists, I killed them with bullets, fire, explosives, I watched them get mauled by bears and cougars, and my only regret is that I couldn't find any more creative and brutal ways of killing them. I slaughtered them because they were raping Hope County. They were kidnapping and killing people, do those people not have a right to protect themselves? Do I not have a right to protect innocent people from violent psychopaths!? If Joseph didn't want to be taken to prison, he shouldn't have broken the law. Don't let his rhetoric get to you, he started this war.
I love how they recreate Dutch’s first scene in the resist ending. It shows the difference between the two. Dutch was a controlled anger and Joseph was a sociopathic anger

I’ll be completely honest... during the car drive to the bunker I was just having a hell of a time, it was a 25% of me vibing to the rock blasting out of the radio, and 50% me panicking because the time at the top, and the other 25% of me yelling at Pratt TO SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!
You all will probably disagree with me, but on that ending I like to imagine that your friends are able to restrain you, the nukes weren’t dropped, and the National Guard goes and performs a cleanup on Aisle 7.
I actually discovered the secret ending on my first play through of this game without knowing of my existence. My controller died moments before I had the options to put the cuffs on and was trying to find batteries, when I finally found new ones the option disappeared and the ending played
For anyone saying that the nukes do not drop in the walk away ending. The walk away ending lasts for two minutes before the credits roll. The fight following the resist choice takes at least twice as long. Enough time to see the nukes drop.
It's quite ambiguous, it never says if Joseph was right, or if it's just that the world was already on its course to end You don't know if the nukes drop in the walk away ending because if they don't he was right, but if they do it had nothing to do with him
Not to mention the song the sheriff puts on the radio is the same one that Jacob uses to indoctrinate you and Pratt, so it's implied you and Pratt murder the other two.
The nukes drop no matter what. Near the end on one of the main story missions, you can hear world events on the radio. There are huge international tensions unfolding in a very not good way... well outside of the control or influence of our resident Cult Leader. Chances are that Seed was a true Prophet, but chose about the worst type of way to prepare. As for if being a 'Prophet' would be canon to Far Cry lore... yep, sure would. Reference everything from Shangri La that was considered canon and had a measurable impact on reality. That confirms the supernatural is real in Far Cry as recent as the last game. Every Far Cry has some trippy stuff in it.
The problem is that there is no nuke "drop." Let alone nukeS (multiple). You don't see any MIRV re-entry. It's just a huge nuclear detonation. Oh, isn't it interesting that all the Ubisoft games are tied into one another (including Far Cry series, Watchdogs series, Assassin's Creed series and... even Splinter Cell in Far Cry: New Dawn with a note from Sam Fisher) ... and that there was a missing nuclear device in Ghost Recon: Wildlands... Which is around the same time period as this. Hmm.

While Pagan Min is my personal favourite among all the FC villains, still there was something about Joseph Seed that none of the other villains had. The way he speaks and keeps looking dead straight into the player's eyes as if he is actually trying to hypnotise you into joining him. Plus the voice acting and animation is so realistic. Brilliant job by Ubisoft!
what's funny to me is that Joseph is talking... YOU are right next to those Bliss barrels he has beside him for what i feel is LONG ENOUGH and then some for when it comes to (also the fact you've probobly ran across countless bliss barrels as well) the walk way bit; you've become a sleeper agent at this point like all the other bliss VIP agents.

I think they're great if you actually paid attention to the story and the background goings-on. You would have known about the war going on and the threat of imminent nuclear war. But it's amazing how it seems like just vaguely related background chatter until it all clicks.

the writing was pretty abysmal. literally in REAL LIFE, someone like Joeseph wouldn't last more than two minutes, the moment he started kidnapping and killing the entire FBI would turn his compound into Waco 2.0, not casually stroll into a heavily armed compound with a warrant for someone's arrest and act like the BIGGEST p*ssies on planet earth when you're a trained officer of the law. the entire compound in bumkin ass montana had army grade firearms, that alone made the story beyond stupid among everything else. Not only that, joeseph has 0 charisma, no character, and nothing of interest about him. he's literally the most generic evil religious person, he's literally a walking template for a stereotype for radicalized religious folk where he, in his mind, is totally perfect and not doing any good while killing and using drugs and mind control to control people. Literally at ANY point you encountered either Joeseph or his inbred, BORING family, deputy should've just pulled out his gun and SHOT them instead of playing a game of cat and mouse with every family member.
When I played this, I’d heard that the ending had to do with nukes, but put it off as my friends trying to “spoil” the game for me with lies. That was, until I chose the resist ending, and heard the air raid sirens. Then I knew it was coming.
Still on my first playthrough. But after I got into Widowmaker, the first song that played was "Barracuda." I actually said "Fuck yeah" as I plowed through the roadblocks.
It literally has one of the worst gaming storylines ever, what are you on about. Joeseph has no character outside talking about religious scripture and oozing hypocrisy, trying to act like he's a super profound and deep character when he's just a manlet that wants control over everyone. The rest of his family are uninteresting and evil for the sake of evil other than faith who, even then, doesn't deserve sympathy because she's continuing to provide bodies for the meat grinder that is Joeseph's lil group instead of doing anything to fight against him. The intro alone was beyond retarded when, SOMEHOW, dispatch was in with Joeseph the entire time. Which makes actually no sense because it was pretty clear the peggies and Joeseph stuck to a pretty limited area. And considering we had to FLY to the compound it's safe to say it isn't exactly anywhere near the local cities or anything like that. Plus then we literally never see or hear from that character again, so it seemed pretty pointless to have that included at all. Then there's how literally every armed officer was the BIGGEST pussy on planet earth, so scared to go after a normal f*cking human male. Plus the inbred hillbillies all have access to military grade hardware, that's never explained like at all, just in the middle of country ass montana.
There's something that's just too real about the second ending. You don't normally hear that raw emotion of fear, games usually have something well-scripted and thought out. But if a nuke had just dropped only miles away and you have no clue if you're going to survive, you would only be able to scream and panic and cry. That scene just brings out some real terror that just chills you to the bone.

This game is among the few games that actually taught me a life lesson. "Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone" is something I say to myself ever since I finished this game for the first time. Sometimes, the only way to win is not to play, and that's pretty powerful coming from a videogame that is all about, well, playing. It's astounding that Ubisoft even made something like this.
I wouldn't really say that's the best message to get out of the game I mean if you choose the secret ending the only thing that changes is more people get tortured murdered and kidnapped and the best case in that scenario is the seed family die from the nukes which it's entirely possible they could survive if they find the bunker in time Rooks involvement is 100% a net positive because it means so many more peoples final moments aren't them being tortured
@@zerothepanda02 I always imagined that the nukes never drop if you choose the secret ending and instead Rook and the others return and immediately call the national guard on the cult, which results in a quicker ending for it all.

They probably figured it was best to walk away and let the National Guard come in and either serve the federal arrest warrant, or come in guns n’ blazin’ and eliminate them, which would’ve resulted in a much more quicker and effective ending. Now.. whether nukes drop or not, idk, since obviously world tension was at an all-time high, judging by radio broadcasts, etc. throughout the game. My guess, is that the nukes still would’ve dropped, because since Joseph had blocked all radio and tele-communications in and out of Hope County, they wouldn’t have a way to know what was happening, but, then again, he and the Peggies had complete control, so it’s possible they knew something was going on. In the end, I believe the nukes were gonna drop anyways regardless, although, I doubt Rook would be alive, as he would have no knowledge of any bunkers, as would the Sheriff and other deputies.

I think the game was written to be allegorical in nature in some cases, and I'd say that the nukes dropping might be more of a symbolic punishment for you not quitting when you should have. I know there's a sequel that is set in a post apocalypse where the nukes have dropped but I don't think anyone can take New Dawn seriously when it comes to its narrative lmao

I absolutely loved this game. The opening sequence. The gameplay, the gorgeous soundtrack. The ending. They nailed this game. Joseph was an amazing character. The actor did such a good job playing that role. Loved the ending. 10/10 for me.
Agreed. I played and beat this game in a whole weekend. Very, very great game. Everything about it; it’s details, the characters, storyline, soundtrack, scenery, gameplay, EVERYTHING. You couldn’t have said it better, they nailed this Farcry.
Nah, i don't feel like a monster at all. Even if he already knew about what will happen, he could just try to convince these people without all those cult things. In the end he is just another psychopath who want his own community with his mindset when everything went down.
I think Joseph might try to convince people in a peaceful way before. They mentioned that his cult wasn't armed in the beginning. Almost everyone that Rook saves from the bunkers are dead from the nuke. But I don't feel like I'm a monster but I think both Rook and Joseph have their own way saving people if Rook knows about the nuke he might as well took over the bunker instead of destroying them.
how you can be sure that he killed him? ok, Dutch called them to come to the bunker but maybe then he died. or did i missed any that makes it proved that he got killed by the father?
@@MrJoeCramer It just looks like an implication since the last scene shows Rook, Joseph, and a dead Dutch. Dutch was not going to be killed by the disaster under the bunker, Rook won't kill him, there's no reason for Dutch to commit suicide. The fingers point to Joseph. Could have been self defense if Dutch attempted to kill him, but we'll never know. After all, Joseph did rescue Rook back there.
This ending is amazing I don't care what other people think. The VAs did a great job capturing the absolute fear going through everyone's minds. My adrenaline was rushing the entire time. When that nuke hit, instant tension
It became a clown ending when nukes where activated. Me and my brother sorta joked that he'd be nuking the place but he didn't just do it once, but several times. The ending is just ridiculous and there is no tension what so ever. All of the main evil bad guys are just so ridiculous evil that it makes dictators look like nice people. They constantly say "No one would have gotten hurt if you didn't interfered" which is bs because they where already murdering, torturing, killing, cannibalizing on the people living in that country. Should have just let me put an actual bullet into Joseph head the moment I got there.
My heart and my mind just absolutely been struck and hit with fear when I first saw this. Although I did see the ending where he kills you when you choose to resist, but not the one where he forgives you after the damage.

1: I don't give a shit about the acting. Having some nobody ham it up for an extra 45 minutes of my life doesn't ring my bell. 2: The graphics are okay, I guess. I honestly think Battlefield 1 looked better. 3: The writing is terrible. It tries really hard to 'subvert expectations' and teach the player a lesson about violence but all it does is just make you feel like an ass for caring in the first place. "Congratulations, you will get a shitty ending no matter what you did throughout the entire game and btw, we don't want you to shoot things in an FPS. Happy?" "No, I'm not." 4. The score is forgettable af and fits the mold of another boring-ass soundtrack that tries to tell you how to feel by being overly dramatic and demonstrative.
Battle Rus when “only you” plays Rook loses his sanity and we’re left to presume he turned on and killed everyone in that car. Meaning nobody ever went back to stop Seed.
Though it's implied all of the protagonists including the Rookie die in the walk away ending, everything is pretty much ambiguous and completely up to the player. Perhaps we did kill the sheriff and the other deputies but managed to walk away alive. Maybe in the last minute, we make a sacrifice and jump out of the truck, possibly killing or injuring ourselves but saving the others.
Chunky Cheese I’m actually pretty sure the resist ending if a figment created by the INSANE amount of bliss he dumped all over you we know it makes you see things you want, and our character clearly wants to save his friends, but our character here has also been through jacobs fear trials...which could have resulted as a nightmare, the nuclear ending we see in resist, i stand by the fact that why would a nuke hit in a no name place like hope county? Least of all two?? Just don’t make sense

I finished this game an hour ago and man this one of the best of the Far Cry games I’ve played by far. The resist ending was freaking intense, the sheer panic, fear and desperation of witnessing a nuke explosion. The aftermath of destruction it’s causing when you driving to escape the explosion. The performance of these actors that give the characters life was top notch, graphically it’s a good looking game especially on the PS4 pro with a 4k tv. It had minor glitches here and there but nothing serious enough ruin my game play experience. I give it a 8.5/10
@kingfish-sp9oe had this game for a long time deciding to play it recently. Just finished and wow the ending took me by surprise!! It was an overall fun game doing side missions and story up until the ending where it was like the climax! Wow!! I chose to resist and my emotions are beaming right now. Mixed emotions... this is what a video fame is all about 9 out 10 is my rating aswell.

In FarCry New Dawn there’s a mission where you can get the Sam Fisher splinter cell outfit and you see on the projector screen all the nukes that went off world wide

And in new dawn he broke the deputy so much that he can't show his face. He left his community in the hands of a reckless child who he spoiled like his siblings. I didn't kill him because he wanted an easy way out at the end after what he's done. I thought he was right too but think about everything he has done.

Say whatever you want about the game, the music is just amazing Imo I think this is one of the better FC games. The whole US vibe, sunshine (and not shitty rain or snow), great open map and the whole cult thing was amazing
No a small little drop owns you even though you probably jumped that multiple times and you were perfectly fine cause if you hadn't lost speed at the drop you would have made it passed the tree like nothing
Yo i just beat this game. I chose to resist. WTF that was fantastic. From 20 plus years of video games this was for sure a highlight and memorable moment. Epic and exhilarating.

I'm gonna go ahead and give my theories for the 3 endings of the game. Keep in mind none of this is confirmed and these are just my ideas. Resist - The first nukes were the missing ones from the 3 bunkers. If you watch closely, there are only 3 detonations and there aren't any missiles or bombers, so its likely that they were buried and detonated by Joseph. He basically starts the nuclear war, hence the emergency broadcast being played as soon as you reach Dutch's bunker, which is after the first nukes. Walk Away - So you get in the car and drive off. All seems well until the brainwash song plays. Keep in mind Joseph hypnotized all your friends so the DJ of the radio station and got him to play the song. The purpose of this is to get revenge after you killed his family, and make it so that you kill your family (friends). Secret Ending - Basically, instead of arresting Joseph you just leave. This basically means nothing bad happens, no "reaping" , no nukes and nobody dies at all. So in other words, this is the best ending.
Question - is using the Bliss part of the reaping only, or is this already happening in the cult? And people like The Cook and his sadistic torture of people? If all of this only happens because of the reaping, then yes, the secret ending is the good one.
Nick F. I think using Bliss was already a thing in the cult, but all the murders happened during the Reaping. The in-game messages directly say that peggies went crazy and started killing everyone.

The only real problem I have isn't with what you said, just the fact that the "good ending" is in the beginning, and the other two options really don't seem that well thought out by the writers and or artists. Not looking for a happy end to it all, just better than these. I get the concepts, just don't like it. Pretty sure we see these 3 exact scenarios play out weekly on the thousands of different TV shows, not going into specifics here, but we all watch TV and game out, so picking a better ending scenario set is kind of easy with all of the different content we're exposed to on the daily. For me the "nuke news" was never heard, and if the broadcast is so important to the resist ending, then they should have forced the player to hear it on the way to Seed's island, to really drive home that this is the FINAL STRETCH, AND THE WORLD REALLY IS ON THE BRINK OF HELL, YOUR DECISION MATTERS IN THIS MOMENT. Also if the choices are Resist, Walk Away, and DONT BOTHER AT ALL and by the way it's in the first ten minutes of playing the game, they're not really choices at all if the two major ones do not solve the player's problem of either killing or taking joseph into the jailhouse, or at the very least doing one of those then dying by the lord's magical thunderbolt of smiting. Because, prophet. Believe me that I do understand the very 1950's endings here: The cult leader takes on his enemy after his visions come true. The brainwashed cop kills his compatriots, fulfilling crazy nutjob's fantasies in the end Or just don't pick up your controller fifteen minutes into the game by accident because you're elbow deep in Cheetos puffs and loving it, and find that the best ending is in the beginning of the game. Honestly, what the fuck is that? Because I will tell you what its not. GOOD WRITING Really trying not to offend folks, because I know some of you like the endings. I actually respect that, so if you liked it, cool, if not i'm not going to flame the fuck out of you either. And also before we get into a huge scrap or whatever, "Pump the hate brakes Thanos" I DIDN'T HATE THIS GAME AT ALL, some things were off about it though, and I think that a lot of our convos on here would be solved with just a few tweaks to the radio in game, and MAYBE a small line of dialogue making sure all crucial information on the world inside FC5 was most assuredly heard by the character to make them think about the ending a bit harder, had I known about the state of the world inside FC5 i might have walked away and let the crazy asshole live, just to spite him. WE AS GAMERS DESERVE A SCRATCH BETTER QUALITY THAN THIS AND GAME DEVELOPERS KNOW THEY CAN DO BETTER We did help build their companies by buying their content after all... TBH the special ending for FC4 for me was accidental like i already knew the begining so i skip and went to take a poops came back and see a credit i was like WTF HOW until i redo and find out the ending but i didn't record bc idc i wanted to kill that pinky bitch suit and when i bought FC 5 i did wait probably do have a secret ending.
Far Cry 5's ending is probably my most favorite out of all of them, its not a 'happy' ending like the others. its pure shock, like a nuke just went off and everyone's panicking and probably shitting their pants and the drive is probably the best part because it starts off with mass panic to escalation to whole forests burning along with the wildlife and then being taken by joseph seed.

It actually makes perfect sense for the nukes to hit Montana. A large amount of the nuclear silos in America are in the Midwest and in the event of a nuclear war, they would be targets just like Washington D.C.
The Dakota's are the nuke zone, not Montana. Joseph Seed nuked Montana, because of his own Pride - the "Project" was "lets get our own society together, and then nuke the area we live in, so we can have a collapse."

Listen in the game. Sirens go off just before you arrest Seed after defeating him. Your deputies in the background are all looking around as they hear the sirens. There are radio broadcasts that indicate a possible pending nuke war. Hints are all over the place.
Only a moron would target Missile Silos since most of them can withstand a DIRECT nuclear strike, if you want to win a war the best thing you can do is nuke all Military Structures, Airports, Naval Yards, Capitol & Bigger Cities and important political Buildings

Well if you chose the other option, you would be riding to missoula, but that musical piece plays "Only you" in the radio. Remember how Eli died? Jacob played us like a fiddle and used the "Only you" shit to make the player infiltrate the wolfs den and kill eli. I think that when it plays in the car, it hints that the player will kill everybody in the car.
I chose resist and I was annoyed that we couldn't just kill him, but obviously it's supposed to be the good ending so you capture him so I was like "Well at least he's finished" Then he said that and the nuke.... My mouth dropped wide open and I was in shock but so hyped up as well. Amazing ending, did not expect it at all

This all hits so differently after New Dawn. Joseph Seed's outwardly benevolent personality just seemed like decoration in Far Cry 5, but in New Dawn it really means something. To quote Admiral Akin Bosch from Free Space 2, "I am merely a fool who created a monster I am powerless to stop, so I will play my role to the bloody end." Joseph didn't want things to get this bad, but he could only have so much control and oversight over his siblings.
The Resist ending is the best ending ever. Joseph literally says all his monologue ending it with saying you're alone and he was right. Biggest middle finger in gaming ever
It would have been cool if after the secret ending you get to play though a non-cult takeover of the rest of the game, just exploring the map, hunting, fishing, etc.

I actually really like the "walk away" ending. You can see the emotional impact of your decision on Joseph's face the moment you make it. Despite killing his entire family he's still willing to forgive you, show you genuine affection, and allow you to depart in peace. He's happy not just for himself, but for you. That makes the ending so interesting to me. I like all of the endings but really, this is the one that's canon to me. Yes, he's the "bad guy" and yes, it's clear that his cult has done significant damage and cost people their lives, but despite having the apparent ability to kill you and those close to you, like you've done to him, all he wants to do is talk to you and make you understand that you're locked in a needless stalemate of escalating violence. He offers to cease the attacks against you if you do the same for him, and when you agree he's true to his word. I think that's really cool. It's an ending that makes you think, and one that's pretty much suggested from the very beginning of the game (most explicitly in the Easter egg ending): Not every problem can be solved with a bullet, and sometimes it's best to just leave things alone. I can understand those who disagree, or even just find the other ending more interesting, but "walk away" is the one I like most. The game tried to portray these characters as more than just one-dimensional villains. I think that they, like the game itself, was judged a little unfairly.

I don't think it's a matter of anyone "falling for" anything, nor do I think that anyone has forgotten that Joseph is a manipulator (I openly stated that he's cost people their lives which is a lot worse). What I was saying is that it's interesting that Joseph can kill you right there and doesn't. At that point he doesn't need to manipulate you, he can say one word and a dozen people will gun you down. That he chooses not to means that he's clearly giving you another chance. What you do with that chance (such as come back and kill him at some future date) is a risk he's willing to take. You're not drugged, you're not being held captive, you're given the free will to make your own choice. That you choose to walk away clearly makes him happy. Not because you saved his life, but because he was able to save yours.
This whole scene is unsettling. When the Sheriff says "You put those cuffs on him, none of us will leave here alive" you just know everything will end horribly. The music adds to it, too.
So I just played this game and finished it. I chose the resist ending and it was intense and good dialogue the whole ride to the bunker. After watching the walk away ending it’s crazy to see we just kill them all anyways. Wow lol
Yeah the entire problem at the start of the game is that you can't contact the national guard due to signal jamming. Then you stop the jamming, or find a way to get out of its radius, buts its just never mentioned after the first like 5 missions.

Just beat the game for the first time like 10 minutes ago (resist ending) and holy cow. Amazing. I haven't played New Dawn, but this sets it up well. Maybe after New Dawn we'll get a Clutch Nixon game. We can only hope.

Great game, redpilled as fuck, full of decent humor and jabs at modern society, but possibly one of the most dissatisfying endings I have *ever* seen... either way... it makes *0 sense* for two major reasons: One: How did the entire population get infected with Bliss Gas if you have been destroying it the entire campaign and literally liberating the entire region??? Two: If the nukes drop in one ending... why don't they drop in the other??? *@ _ @...* Is this supposed to imply that Joseph was legitimately a prophet of god and that you're fighting on the wrong side the entire fucking time? Because this pisses me off for an abundance of reasons...
The nukes don't go off in the "walk away" ending because Joseph is the one who signals for them to be set off. He has no reason to rush the collapse if you don't resist. And the thing with the bliss is that you destroy a lot of it, but they have tons squirreled away all over Hope County.
American Patriot You have to remember, all your companions live in Hope County. Edens Gate had been poluting the water supply well before you got there, so its to be assumed the bliss was already deep within them.

@no u The Secret Walk Away ending doesn't show the nukes because it ends on the night that Marshal Burke came to Hope County in the first place, and the nukes came at least weeks after that. It's not clear how much time, it's however long it takes for the deputy to liberate Hope County. You spend at least a few days in a cage when kidnapped by Jacob, plus however many days are spent in Holland Valley and Hembane River.

I actually discovered the secret ending on my first play through of this game without knowing of my existence. My controller died moments before I had the options to put the cuffs on and was trying to find batteries, when I finally found new ones the option disappeared and the ending played

For anyone saying that the nukes do not drop in the walk away ending. The walk away ending lasts for two minutes before the credits roll. The fight following the resist choice takes at least twice as long. Enough time to see the nukes drop.

Near the end on one of the main story missions, you can hear world events on the radio.
There are huge international tensions unfolding in a very not good way... well outside of the control or influence of our resident Cult Leader.
Chances are that Seed was a true Prophet, but chose about the worst type of way to prepare.
As for if being a 'Prophet' would be canon to Far Cry lore... yep, sure would. Reference everything from Shangri La that was considered canon and had a measurable impact on reality. That confirms the supernatural is real in Far Cry as recent as the last game.

The problem is that there is no nuke "drop." Let alone nukeS (multiple). You don't see any MIRV re-entry. It's just a huge nuclear detonation.
Oh, isn't it interesting that all the Ubisoft games are tied into one another (including Far Cry series, Watchdogs series, Assassin's Creed series and... even Splinter Cell in Far Cry: New Dawn with a note from Sam Fisher) ... and that there was a missing nuclear device in Ghost Recon: Wildlands... Which is around the same time period as this. Hmm.

While Pagan Min is my personal favourite among all the FC villains, still there was something about Joseph Seed that none of the other villains had. The way he speaks and keeps looking dead straight into the player's eyes as if he is actually trying to hypnotise you into joining him. Plus the voice acting and animation is so realistic. Brilliant job by Ubisoft!

Say what you will about the endings, and the writing, but personally, the voice acting is what makes the game for me.
I think they're great if you actually paid attention to the story and the background goings-on. You would have known about the war going on and the threat of imminent nuclear war. But it's amazing how it seems like just vaguely related background chatter until it all clicks.

the writing was pretty abysmal. literally in REAL LIFE, someone like Joeseph wouldn't last more than two minutes, the moment he started kidnapping and killing the entire FBI would turn his compound into Waco 2.0, not casually stroll into a heavily armed compound with a warrant for someone's arrest and act like the BIGGEST p*ssies on planet earth when you're a trained officer of the law. the entire compound in bumkin ass montana had army grade firearms, that alone made the story beyond stupid among everything else.
Not only that, joeseph has 0 charisma, no character, and nothing of interest about him. he's literally the most generic evil religious person, he's literally a walking template for a stereotype for radicalized religious folk where he, in his mind, is totally perfect and not doing any good while killing and using drugs and mind control to control people. Literally at ANY point you encountered either Joeseph or his inbred, BORING family, deputy should've just pulled out his gun and SHOT them instead of playing a game of cat and mouse with every family member.
When I played this, I’d heard that the ending had to do with nukes, but put it off as my friends trying to “spoil” the game for me with lies. That was, until I chose the resist ending, and heard the air raid sirens. Then I knew it was coming.

Far Cry 5 has such an immersive soundtrack and awesome storyline, I especially enjoyed the Faith area of the map with her sad story.
Still on my first playthrough. But after I got into Widowmaker, the first song that played was "Barracuda." I actually said "Fuck yeah" as I plowed through the roadblocks.
I just finished it. One of the most generic stories ive ever played.
I LOVED faith! She was the one villain I genuenly did not want to fight. I was so sad during that stragely beautiful bossfigt against her.
It literally has one of the worst gaming storylines ever, what are you on about. Joeseph has no character outside talking about religious scripture and oozing hypocrisy, trying to act like he's a super profound and deep character when he's just a manlet that wants control over everyone. The rest of his family are uninteresting and evil for the sake of evil other than faith who, even then, doesn't deserve sympathy because she's continuing to provide bodies for the meat grinder that is Joeseph's lil group instead of doing anything to fight against him.
The intro alone was beyond retarded when, SOMEHOW, dispatch was in with Joeseph the entire time. Which makes actually no sense because it was pretty clear the peggies and Joeseph stuck to a pretty limited area. And considering we had to FLY to the compound it's safe to say it isn't exactly anywhere near the local cities or anything like that. Plus then we literally never see or hear from that character again, so it seemed pretty pointless to have that included at all. Then there's how literally every armed officer was the BIGGEST pussy on planet earth, so scared to go after a normal f*cking human male. Plus the inbred hillbillies all have access to military grade hardware, that's never explained like at all, just in the middle of country ass montana.
There's something that's just too real about the second ending. You don't normally hear that raw emotion of fear, games usually have something well-scripted and thought out. But if a nuke had just dropped only miles away and you have no clue if you're going to survive, you would only be able to scream and panic and cry. That scene just brings out some real terror that just chills you to the bone.

This game is among the few games that actually taught me a life lesson. "Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone" is something I say to myself ever since I finished this game for the first time. Sometimes, the only way to win is not to play, and that's pretty powerful coming from a videogame that is all about, well, playing.
It's astounding that Ubisoft even made something like this.

I mean if you choose the secret ending the only thing that changes is more people get tortured murdered and kidnapped and the best case in that scenario is the seed family die from the nukes which it's entirely possible they could survive if they find the bunker in time

They probably figured it was best to walk away and let the National Guard come in and either serve the federal arrest warrant, or come in guns n’ blazin’ and eliminate them, which would’ve resulted in a much more quicker and effective ending. Now.. whether nukes drop or not, idk, since obviously world tension was at an all-time high, judging by radio broadcasts, etc. throughout the game. My guess, is that the nukes still would’ve dropped, because since Joseph had blocked all radio and tele-communications in and out of Hope County, they wouldn’t have a way to know what was happening, but, then again, he and the Peggies had complete control, so it’s possible they knew something was going on. In the end, I believe the nukes were gonna drop anyways regardless, although, I doubt Rook would be alive, as he would have no knowledge of any bunkers, as would the Sheriff and other deputies.

I think the game was written to be allegorical in nature in some cases, and I'd say that the nukes dropping might be more of a symbolic punishment for you not quitting when you should have. I know there's a sequel that is set in a post apocalypse where the nukes have dropped but I don't think anyone can take New Dawn seriously when it comes to its narrative lmao

I absolutely loved this game. The opening sequence. The gameplay, the gorgeous soundtrack. The ending. They nailed this game. Joseph was an amazing character. The actor did such a good job playing that role. Loved the ending. 10/10 for me.

Almost everyone that Rook saves from the bunkers are dead from the nuke. Dutch was not going to be killed by the disaster under the bunker, Rook won't kill him, there's no reason for Dutch to commit suicide. The fingers point to Joseph. Could have been self defense if Dutch attempted to kill him, but we'll never know. After all, Joseph did rescue Rook back there.
This ending is amazing I don't care what other people think. The VAs did a great job capturing the absolute fear going through everyone's minds. My adrenaline was rushing the entire time. When that nuke hit, instant tension

Though it's implied all of the protagonists including the Rookie die in the walk away ending, everything is pretty much ambiguous and completely up to the player. Perhaps we did kill the sheriff and the other deputies but managed to walk away alive. Maybe in the last minute, we make a sacrifice and jump out of the truck, possibly killing or injuring ourselves but saving the others.

I finished this game an hour ago and man this one of the best of the Far Cry games I’ve played by far. The resist ending was freaking intense, the sheer panic, fear and desperation of witnessing a nuke explosion. The aftermath of destruction it’s causing when you driving to escape the explosion. The performance of these actors that give the characters life was top notch, graphically it’s a good looking game especially on the PS4 pro with a 4k tv. It had minor glitches here and there but nothing serious enough ruin my game play experience. I give it a 8.5/10

It was an overall fun game doing side missions and story up until the ending where it was like the climax! Wow!! I chose to resist and my emotions are beaming right now. In FarCry New Dawn there’s a mission where you can get the Sam Fisher splinter cell outfit and you see on the projector screen all the nukes that went off world wide
And the walk away ending is the perfect set up for Far Cry 6.
@xPumy09HD1 he wasn't, he was right about the apocalypse because the tension between countries were rising and his way of helping hope county was terrible, brainwashing, murdering any one not joining the cult. And in new dawn he broke the deputy so much that he can't show his face. He left his community in the hands of a reckless child who he spoiled like his siblings. I didn't kill him because he wanted an easy way out at the end after what he's done. I thought he was right too but think about everything he has done.

I'm gonna go ahead and give my theories for the 3 endings of the game.
Keep in mind none of this is confirmed and these are just my ideas.
Resist - The first nukes were the missing ones from the 3 bunkers. If you watch closely, there are only 3 detonations and there aren't any missiles or bombers, so its likely that they were buried and detonated by Joseph. He basically starts the nuclear war, hence the emergency broadcast being played as soon as you reach Dutch's bunker, which is after the first nukes.
Walk Away - So you get in the car and drive off. All seems well until the brainwash song plays. Keep in mind Joseph hypnotized all your friends so the DJ of the radio station and got him to play the song. The purpose of this is to get revenge after you killed his family, and make it so that you kill your family (friends).
Secret Ending - Basically, instead of arresting Joseph you just leave. This basically means nothing bad happens, no "reaping" , no nukes and nobody dies at all. So in other words, this is the best ending.
Question - is using the Bliss part of the reaping only, or is this already happening in the cult? And people like The Cook and his sadistic torture of people? If all of this only happens because of the reaping, then yes, the secret ending is the good one.
Nick F. I think using Bliss was already a thing in the cult, but all the murders happened during the Reaping. The in-game messages directly say that peggies went crazy and started killing everyone.
TheLonelyDinosaur I just want a ending (except for the secret one) in which I don't care who the hell dies, I want boomer peaches and cheeseburger to stay alive and happy.
The only real problem I have isn't with what you said, just the fact that the "good ending" is in the beginning, and the other two options really don't seem that well thought out by the writers and or artists. Not looking for a happy end to it all, just better than these. I get the concepts, just don't like it. Pretty sure we see these 3 exact scenarios play out weekly on the thousands of different TV shows, not going into specifics here, but we all watch TV and game out, so picking a better ending scenario set is kind of easy with all of the different content we're exposed to on the daily.
For me the "nuke news" was never heard, and if the broadcast is so important to the resist ending, then they should have forced the player to hear it on the way to Seed's island, to really drive home that this is the FINAL STRETCH, AND THE WORLD REALLY IS ON THE BRINK OF HELL, YOUR DECISION MATTERS IN THIS MOMENT.
Also if the choices are Resist, Walk Away, and DONT BOTHER AT ALL and by the way it's in the first ten minutes of playing the game, they're not really choices at all if the two major ones do not solve the player's problem of either killing or taking joseph into the jailhouse, or at the very least doing one of those then dying by the lord's magical thunderbolt of smiting.
Because, prophet.
Believe me that I do understand the very 1950's endings here:
The cult leader takes on his enemy after his visions come true.
The brainwashed cop kills his compatriots, fulfilling crazy nutjob's fantasies in the end
Or just don't pick up your controller fifteen minutes into the game by accident because you're elbow deep in Cheetos puffs and loving it, and find that the best ending is in the beginning of the game.

I DIDN'T HATE THIS GAME AT ALL, some things were off about it though, and I think that a lot of our convos on here would be solved with just a few tweaks to the radio in game, and MAYBE a small line of dialogue making sure all crucial information on the world inside FC5 was most assuredly heard by the character to make them think about the ending a bit harder, had I known about the state of the world inside FC5 i might have walked away and let the crazy asshole live, just to spite him.
WE AS GAMERS DESERVE A SCRATCH BETTER QUALITY THAN THIS AND GAME DEVELOPERS KNOW THEY CAN DO BETTER
We did help build their companies by buying their content after all...

Far Cry 5's ending is probably my most favorite out of all of them, its not a 'happy' ending like the others. its pure shock, like a nuke just went off and everyone's panicking and probably shitting their pants and the drive is probably the best part because it starts off with mass panic to escalation to whole forests burning along with the wildlife and then being taken by joseph seed.
I'd put Far Cry 3's endings close, though only because they're the natural climax of such an amazing story.

It actually makes perfect sense for the nukes to hit Montana. A large amount of the nuclear silos in America are in the Midwest and in the event of a nuclear war, they would be targets just like Washington D.C.
The Dakota's are the nuke zone, not Montana.
Joseph Seed nuked Montana, because of his own Pride - the "Project" was "lets get our own society together, and then nuke the area we live in, so we can have a collapse."

@@BowTie8Bit No. He. Didn't. There are plenty of hints in the game, as pointed out above by others, that it was actually WW3, not Seed. Seed foresaw it/predicted it but he did not cause it. Listen in the game. Sirens go off just before you arrest Seed after defeating him. Your deputies in the background are all looking around as they hear the sirens. There are radio broadcasts that indicate a possible pending nuke war. Hints are all over the place.
Only a moron would target Missile Silos since most of them can withstand a DIRECT nuclear strike, if you want to win a war the best thing you can do is nuke all Military Structures, Airports, Naval Yards, Capitol & Bigger Cities and
important political Buildings
If nuclear war would occur I’d imagine you do it on do the most damage to surface area not I’m just going to nuke the big cites.

Well if you chose the other option, you would be riding to missoula, but that musical piece plays "Only you" in the radio. Remember how Eli died? Jacob played us like a fiddle and used the "Only you" shit to make the player infiltrate the wolfs den and kill eli. I think that when it plays in the car, it hints that the player will kill everybody in the car.

2 is sorta a mute character, if you dont choose them to play as they show up as NPC's and do talk. So you do hear their voice.

I chose resist and I was annoyed that we couldn't just kill him, but obviously it's supposed to be the good ending so you capture him so I was like "Well at least he's finished" Then he said that and the nuke.... My mouth dropped wide open and I was in shock but so hyped up as well. Amazing ending, did not expect it at all

This all hits so differently after New Dawn. Joseph Seed's outwardly benevolent personality just seemed like decoration in Far Cry 5, but in New Dawn it really means something. To quote Admiral Akin Bosch from Free Space 2, "I am merely a fool who created a monster I am powerless to stop, so I will play my role to the bloody end." Joseph didn't want things to get this bad, but he could only have so much control and oversight over his siblings.
The Resist ending is the best ending ever. Joseph literally says all his monologue ending it with saying you're alone and he was right. Biggest middle finger in gaming ever

I actually really like the "walk away" ending. You can see the emotional impact of your decision on Joseph's face the moment you make it. Despite killing his entire family he's still willing to forgive you, show you genuine affection, and allow you to depart in peace. He's happy not just for himself, but for you. That makes the ending so interesting to me.
I like all of the endings but really, this is the one that's canon to me. Yes, he's the "bad guy" and yes, it's clear that his cult has done significant damage and cost people their lives, but despite having the apparent ability to kill you and those close to you, like you've done to him, all he wants to do is talk to you and make you understand that you're locked in a needless stalemate of escalating violence. He offers to cease the attacks against you if you do the same for him, and when you agree he's true to his word. I think that's really cool. It's an ending that makes you think, and one that's pretty much suggested from the very beginning of the game (most explicitly in the Easter egg ending): Not every problem can be solved with a bullet, and sometimes it's best to just leave things alone.
I can understand those who disagree, or even just find the other ending more interesting, but "walk away" is the one I like most. The game tried to portray these characters as more than just one-dimensional villains. I think that they, like the game itself, was judged a little unfairly.
The fact with the walk away ending is that it Is implied that Rook kills everyone in the car due to the radio song

@@TheVudubob I'm late to this but I only just now saw the comment. I don't think it's a matter of anyone "falling for" anything, nor do I think that anyone has forgotten that Joseph is a manipulator (I openly stated that he's cost people their lives which is a lot worse).
What I was saying is that it's interesting that Joseph can kill you right there and doesn't. At that point he doesn't need to manipulate you, he can say one word and a dozen people will gun you down. That he chooses not to means that he's clearly giving you another chance. What you do with that chance (such as come back and kill him at some future date) is a risk he's willing to take. You're not drugged, you're not being held captive, you're given the free will to make your own choice. That you choose to walk away clearly makes him happy. Not because you saved his life, but because he was able to save yours.

This whole scene is unsettling. When the Sheriff says "You put those cuffs on him, none of us will leave here alive" you just know everything will end horribly. The music adds to it, too.
Only 2 games have actually caused fear during it. The opening scene of this, and the angry mob scene in spec ops: the line.

So I just played this game and finished it. I chose the resist ending and it was intense and good dialogue the whole ride to the bunker. After watching the walk away ending it’s crazy to see we just kill them all anyways. Wow lol

Every open world game should have a secret ending where the character wanders out of the map and says "fuck it I'm out."
Yeah the entire problem at the start of the game is that you can't contact the national guard due to signal jamming. Then you stop the jamming, or find a way to get out of its radius, buts its just never mentioned after the first like 5 missions.

Just beat the game for the first time like 10 minutes ago (resist ending) and holy cow. Amazing. I haven't played New Dawn, but this sets it up well. Maybe after New Dawn we'll get a Clutch Nixon game. We can only hope.

Fucking complete buzzkill. Great game, redpilled as fuck, full of decent humor and jabs at modern society, but possibly one of the most dissatisfying endings I have *ever* seen... either way... it makes *0 sense* for two major reasons:
One: How did the entire population get infected with Bliss Gas if you have been destroying it the entire campaign and literally liberating the entire region???
Two: If the nukes drop in one ending... why don't they drop in the other??? *@ _ @...* Is this supposed to imply that Joseph was legitimately a prophet of god and that you're fighting on the wrong side the entire fucking time? Because this pisses me off for an abundance of reasons...
The nukes don't go off in the "walk away" ending because Joseph is the one who signals for them to be set off. He has no reason to rush the collapse if you don't resist. And the thing with the bliss is that you destroy a lot of it, but they have tons squirreled away all over Hope County.
American Patriot You have to remember, all your companions live in Hope County. Edens Gate had been poluting the water supply well before you got there, so its to be assumed the bliss was already deep within them.
I’m sorry but I don’t know why, it might be because I’m a dumbass but I actually like the idea of Joseph being right in the resist ending, sure it’s a fuck you to the player because everything you did up to this point is gone to shit. Joseph Seed being a prophet of God, and him the antagonist being right. It takes a different turn from the good guys winning, I wanted a game that the bad guys win either way.
