She tells him he can't kiss her again because she knows she won't stop if he does. Working out is a distraction. Helping Bonnie is a distraction. At the motel... no distraction available, so Jeremy has to interrupt. "We kissed. Now it's weird." It's weird for Elena. She takes over Damon's shoes... loving two people at the same time.
elena admit in S6 that she fell in love with damon in season 3x1. The Necklace which stefan gave to protect elena from damon actually bring delena together 😍♥️

Elena believes she's the reason Damon spiraled in 3x14, when it was Stefan who pushed him. He then drew the crowd outside for the sake of Elena seeing Damon's assault on Kol. His way of buying time until he has his bloodlust under control. He doesn't want Damon near Elena, period.
Funny thing. People keep viewing Damon attacking Kol as bad when he literally saved Matt's life He was selfless (and angry I might add) because of that fact he took on an original to save someone he doesn't care about and beat him

Stefan pushed him to spiral, made sure everyone came out to see it, then hid this fact from Elena. He had the ability to stop Damon from spiraling but chose not to because he knew it was the only way to drive a wedge between Damon and Elena. Stefan would rather destroy Damon than let him be with Elena.
