      @@randomcardboardbox2396Hopefully not! It's ambitious, but an impressive start all the same. Not to mention some of the highest video production values I've seen in the X16 community. I like how you're presenting it in a way that would help a modern game developer see what needs to be done to cope with the limitations.

    Why don't you try to scroll the screen up and down when jump and use the “best screen fit” as resolution ? I parallax is an option to move scenario, of course…
    Anyway, great job !!

      At the time, the project remains "secret"...
      I'll be pissed off if someone would steal an idea from my project.
      I think the 1st time that I will show something online will be near completion...
      What I can say is this :
      The game is called " Seeds Of Mira ZERO".
      The very few people who saw some screenshots were doubting it was running on a NES because the visuals are extremely polished... The game does not look like a "usual type of visuals" we see on the system... 😁

    Great video, some really nice insights into game dev. Can you make this game for the spectrum next too :). Thats another retro "new" games computer with a big community that would love this game and your efforts.

    I know nothing of coding. The entirety of my experience was mucking about with turbo pascal for like a week in the early 90s. So admittedly I was mostly lost for the entire video. Like, I think i get it on like a conceptual level, but it;s still well over my head. Still, a very entertaining video. The project looks super cool, you're very funny, and yeah, you've got a good voice for narration :p

    I'm happy you made Mega Man sprite like the one from the SNES, mostly MM7.

      yeah, i honestly think that animation style was abandoned too quickly by capcom because they moved over to megaman x and kinda put the og series on hiatus, so i wanted to bring back that vibe.

    Amazing work, perhaps your next step could be looking into pixel perfect collision. Gamehut made a great video on how he achieved it on the Amiga.

      Check the second vid, im just using normal point-box collision detection. I generally dont really like pixel perfect collision, i just think normal collision makes it easier to play the game.
      Ps: the second viss audio is kinda bad, just a warning.

    As soon as I heard your voice I knew you were a Trini. Surprised to see a Trini talk about the X16. This is awesome! The outlines around the sprites reminds me of the Castlevania games for GBA. Was it done to help the sprites stand out against the background and whatnot?

    I just checked the FPGA and it has DSP cores with MAC. Do we see any of this? Is it used to simulate the analog part of SID?

      @@randomcardboardbox2396 if my calculations are right, you can't obtain real 512 pixels, you can get 510 or 515 (with factor 102 or 103). So that mean you actually uses 640x480 with black stripes around to get visual 512px? Is that correct?

      yeah, I use black bars since 512 x 480 is a multiple of the NES's resolution.

      @@randomcardboardbox2396 I see, so it is just double. It is sad that you cant use a real 512px, because that way you might use 32 x 30 tile map (less then 2k), now you need to use 64x30 (around 4k).
      I guess 2 layers for background?

      It would be, but it would require a more hand crafted solution. And it wouldnt help much unfortunately because the animation doesnt hv a lot of repeating elements.

      Most likely yeah, all the games on the nes use basically the same code. Youd just have to make new art and music basically. Although i dont know if ill do that.

    The run animation looks weird. The jumps in this game feel way too fast and not floaty enough. Amazing work so far still.
