      You are beasting on any bass you play. Awesome Brother. I'm from right across the bridge in Camden. Mainly on the gospel scene but appreciate all grooves. I have a Squire Fender jazz 4 string I think it's a 1988, I have in Alvarez 6 string bass and I just Bought an Ibanez GSR205 5 string. I bought these bases in the past because I always wanted to have a bass available whenever I had a gospel church gig and my bass player was without his axe. I am primarily a keyboard Player and just decided To dust off these basses and learn how to play. Now all I need to do is learn from the master , do you ever give online lessons? Or is there anyone You would refer? Those cats at Guitar Center can't play anything like you do lol . At any rate I really enjoy your videos bro and keep doing these demo videos even though you make it hard to choose the right bays because you play so well all of them. Peace brother. 🎵🎹🎵🎹🎶

      Its like every low priced instrument. Some will be real good, some mediocre ones, and some turds.
      You have to put in some time and check some basses out (or have to be lucky for the first shot) to find a "real good one".
      Even the Ray 34 series has better and not so good pieces.
      The high end series of MusicMan StingRay basses has lots of good ones- and some that are stellar.

    What a great video! That's some jam too. I picked up a sub4, getting back into bass after a number of years in school. These Sub 4 's are really packing some firepower, the more I hear them, the more impressed I am. They strike me as the instrument you can buy on a budget, improve the rough bits over time either by DIY or upgrade (still with budget in mind) and have a very nice and bespoke instrument at the end of the whole exercise. No bad thing in my book.

      You can,...all you have to do is, get you one of those "CHEAT" machines. Sabine has this little device that slows down the riff that you want to learn and it keeps it in the key that the original riff is, once you slow it down without losing its pitch. Now, here's the "SECRET" to really doing what you see me doing in this video. First, you have to "DISCIPLINE" yourself. Then,... listen to the riff that you want to learn and record it to the device, play it back over and over and over until you can't take it anymore, (lol!). Now, here's the "KEY" Ready? DO THE RIFF "SLOWLY and CORRECTLY". "SLOWLY AND CORRECTLY" "NOTE FOR NOTE" "EVERY LITTLE DETAIL YOU HEAR IN THAT RIFF!!!!!!!!" You have to "MEMIC" that riff to the "T!!!!" As the riff gets easier for you, then you can speed it up. Speed it up until you get the "ORIGINAL" riff speed under your fingers and from there you can take flight. That it. : D

    • @11coopbasscooper55
      @11coopbasscooper55  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the "HARDWARE" and the "BRIDGE" and the "PICKUP". The ray 4 has a "PASSIVE" pickup and the hardware is probably not a "THICK" in material. The woods should play a part in the "TONE" as well. The ray34 has an "ACTIVE" pickup. Bassically, Sterling is saying; the ray34 can get you real close to the "ORIGINAL" STINGRAY'S tone. So, you're gonna have to the pay that "CLOSE" to the original sound "PRICE". :D

    I've noticed on most of these bass demos when the player starts to slap, it's 99% of the time in the key of E. Why? Because most of the slapping is melodic to the open E string. Now what would be a feat is to slap in G or F# for your demo.

    • @11coopbasscooper55

      I know I am 3 years late. A lot of musicians don't know, once you plug a bass into an interface and then into a mixer, you basically can make the bass sound like anything that comes to your mind. Usually, an instrument going though your onstage equipment is for your to monitor, the audience hears what's going through the mixing board. So, they really can here what you hear on stage. So, don't get too caught up into this bass is better than that bass. Stop the press. It's really ''HOW WELL YOU CAN PLAY". Real talk. : D

    I'm just checking this video out. That SUB sounded tight for the price, but you could really tell the difference when you picked up that Ray 34. Coop you're a straight beast when it comes to that Funk baby "Keep Funk Alive"

    Nice playing. Which one did you like better? The Ray34 or the Ray4?

    Coop! You inspired me.. I love the way you play.. How did you learn and who taught you? Just went out and picked up a sub ray4.

      Mykl Allen,...so sorry about the late, late, late response. Thank you so much for liking how I play. I learned off of Lp's and a mother who made us/ my brother and I. Play our instruments she bought for us,...especially, when we got in trouble. She'd beat us and make us stay in the house for a month in the summertime and made us practice. That was our punishment. Lol! My brother Fred taught me how to play. I was a guitar player at first. I have long fingers. My brother Fred was the bass player. We traded instruments and I became the bass player and he became the guitar player. Its' been that way ever since. I am officially a "bassaholic". Now, practice slowly and correctly. Also, do not worry about how well your friends can play. You have to be your best bassist. Forget Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Alain Caron, Adam Nitti, Alex Al just to name a few. Be Mykl. : D

    Bro, you may want to take a few lessons... JK, very nice stuff! I play guitar but I'm looking to pick up one of these to appease a craving to play bass, as one kid has picked up guitar and the other drums. Being I'll only be a bedroom rock star with them, I cant see dropping $2k for a Music Man (which years ago my friend played and I loved the sound), thus why the Sterling stood out. I'm torn between the Ray 34 and the S.U.B Ray4. The S.U.B. seemed appealing as it has the look and I like the price is rightt but I was concerned on how it played. What are your thoughts on the two? Is the action nice or do you get a lot of the "fret buzz" when playing the Ray4? And what were you playing thru, one of those GK's? I was looking to grab a small Hartke combo. oddly, wathcing your video, the Ray4 (to me) seemed to have a little deeper tone which I like, but the Ray34 seemed cleaner and less distorted. I'll be forced to order online (Gutar Center is a a bit of a drive), so I just don't want to be disappointed with the Ray 4 if its a crummy playing bass, though used they are only $200. Big fan of guys like, Bootsy, Jaco, Stanley Clark, Victor Wooten, & Stewart Hamm, so I need to make sure I sound just like them when I plug this thing in! LOL
