      Hey Andy, I just watched that video 10mins ago, congratulations Sir, am glad you enjoyed it... of course, a modern Milwaukee8 Harley will always be a 'friendly puppy', the offer is always open to come down and take a ride on a 'proper' Harley with a carburetor! If it's any consolation, although it's two decades old, it does have Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes, the one thing about old Harleys is you can improve them beyond belief and tune them to how you want them... take care and have a fabulous weekend, all the best to you and the family!

    First, that is a bad ass Dyna with what it looks like an S7S carburetor. Second, that was an amazing ride for history. Third, I cannot agree with you anymore on the dedicated gearbox oil. I use Syn3 for motor and primary for convenience because I have Harley dealers everywhere, but use their gearbox oil because it is quieter and thicker. In my opinion it just make sense. I am on my fourth Harley an I know its right. A warm salute to you from across the pond, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Thanks for your great videos.

      Hey brother, great to hear from you and thank you for your kind words on the Dyna, I ride an M8 StreetBob these days and it's nothing like the legendary charm of a slow revving twin cam and that was, indeed, an S&S Super E carb, a massive investment, but it woke the bike right up and truly got the best from the performance! Glad to hear you share the common agreement of dedicated gear oil... take care and ride safe in beautiful VA.

    I don't find the results of this test as surprising now as I might have done a few years ago. Totally different kettle of fish but I ride a 2016 Fireblade and until last year it was always main dealer serviced simply for warranty purposes and the dealer has always been good with me. But, in 2019 when I serviced the bike through my business and changed the oil I used a K&N filter because it was convenient and Castrol Power 1 Racing fully synthetic - of the same viscosity as recommended by Honda.
    Both of my Blades I have owned from new, 2014 and 2016 models have had the exact same in terms of servicing from the dealer. After changing the oil to Castrol, the gearbox is unbelievably smooth! I was in disbelief the first ride out. It makes me question, what exactly are the main dealer using? Some form of cheap bulk oil, semi synthetic perhaps? I've no idea but I would highly recommend anyone to question what oil they are using and look at suitability.

    Gotta love the one and half lane roads. I experienced them many years ago in my left hand drive American minivan. Faced a Transit van heading in the opposite direction, both of us at the speed limit. We both realized the road was too narrow to complete the pass, breaking to a stop with our side view mirrors just inches apart. We both reached out and retracted our mirrors and carried on. Beautiful country.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Sir, I drive a 40ft coach around these lanes for my day job, and you have to slow down, even when there's a cyclist going the other way lol and when you do meet a 'proper' truck coming the other way, it can be a loooong afternoon!!

  • @joepie221
    @joepie221 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Del, mixed bag of things to say. Nice countryside. Those rolling hills and pastures look a lot like east Germany at the Czech border. Some of those roads are very narrow. Good thing Ken Block doesn't live near by. Good to see the crucifix hanging on the bars. I wear one religiously when I ride. No pun intended. And finally, did you record the audio for that ride on a separate device? The engine sounds overlapped perfectly between scene changes. Well done. The perfect video to quietly eat lunch by. Thanks.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Joe, always a pleasure to hear from you Sir... and yes, we are priviledged to live in a beautiful place indeed, never tire of crusing the lanes, even on a dull day! Yes, I made the video using 3 files, two cameras with sound muted, and the entire sound data was captured on a Zoom H2n handy recorder... and to keep it away from any wind rush, I tuck it in the back of my shirt just above my belt... and as you can hear, it picks up the sound perfectly! The rest is just a 12hr editing marathon!!... dropping the sound data in first, and then line up the two camera files above it, and then just align them as you go along... pretty easy once you get the hang of it, just time consuming, but well worth it... thank you for taking the time to say, when it gets noticed it makes it all worthwhile.

    I usually run Mobil 1 V-twin in the motor, Royal Purple in the trans, and just regular Harley Formula+ gear/primary lube in the primary. Never saw any point in using a $14 or 15 dollar synthetic oil in the primary as the Harley stuff is $8 a quart. To me that’s pretty damn cheap and it does the job. Saves a few dollars every change. Plus it’s rated for 10k mile interval per Harley.

    Different bike, different engine, but . . . that sound. 30 yrs ago I ran around on a shop bike for a couple of months, a late five speed shovel FXRS, it ran & sounded just the same as yours does now - except for having TQF in it's gear bag!
    Loved that bike, they then swapped it for a WG that needed work & fettling; having finally got that sorted, I rode back down to find that Simon had sold the RS to a punter!
    In a fit of pique, I grabbed an 883 with burnt out wiring, hot wired it with cooker cable & thrashed the living daylights out of it all the way back to Newark - the blasted thing took it all & never missed a beat . . .
    Months later, after fitting a brand new loom & mucho fettling, that one went back too, & was immediately sold to some yuppie, who then wrote it off the next day by trying to park under a Routemaster . . . the real sad part is, he limped away with cuts & bruises.
    Bikes are like aircraft, the biggest danger to their welfare is usually their owners. Have a great w/e : ) x

    See the Project Farm videos for oil testing, he had Amsoil in first place and Pennzoil in second place. I go to Walmart and buy half 10w-40 Valvoline regular motorcycle oil, and half Valvoline 20w-50 full synthetic motorcycle oil for my 2 Japanese motorcycles. The regular oil makes the clutches feel firmer with less slip, and the synthetic oil makes the shifting feel smoother. There is a Project Farm video where he tested mixing a crazy number of oils that no one would ever do, and it tested fine.

      I've been using Amsoil 20W/50 in my Sportster's primary for years with ZERO problems and never a missed shift in my 2005 straight-cut gear tranny. I removed my "grenade" spring plate and replaced it with the 3 stock plates that should have been in there and I've never heard the "chirp" that other riders say they have with other brands of oil. When I replace it at 5K intervals, it is clean and has no foul odor. Like they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
      Needless to say, it is also in my engine.

      Lextek?, glorious system, same as on the Busa, and with an open megaphone on the end of it, it does sound insane! And I have to agree on the baffle, if I run my Lextek open on the Busa, it somehow sounds hollow and a little empty, but with the baffle in, it's still way loud, but at the same time a glorious tone... keep the hooligan alight, and remember, Bandit's are made from GSXR's, so that's hooligan DNA you have there! As you know i have an FXR 1989 and love her to bits , when i first bought her i was advised by an old skool bloke in his shed that just use 1 oil as bike will be used to it , hence i did anyways long story short i met quite a few fxr owners on forums and bike meets and one guy in particular who lives not to far from me said that if i put in the right oil in the right part of the bike i would notice the difference, i was a bit apprehensive but he assured me that it would make a difference so i bit the bullett and changed them ,yes it was more expensive but what a difference it has made she runs smoother ,gear change is slicker and not the clunk i was used to and all in all a better bike , we have now become really good friends and ride together when we can ,

    A non bike question. What did you use to record the sound? Which sounded ace by the way, was it a separate mic or from the cameras.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a separate mic, as the sound recorded on the GoPro is very limited, use a Zoom H2n and to keep it out of the wind rush, tuck it in the back of my shirt, so it's effectively sitting on the pillion seat behind me...!

    Would syn3 cause the clutch to slip on a stage 2 114, making 120hp, 130 ft-lb?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As Syn3 is Harley Davidson's 'recommended' high performance alternative oil, then i can't see that it would, but once you venture into high performance applications of any kind you begin to step close to, and outside the performance limits of any component, including your oils. i now use Amsoil dedicated Primary fluid in my bikes, and my 114 Street Glide has no problems with it at all (although it's factory stock right now), i get slick changes and a crisp bite to the clutch under even the hardest launches... Although your bike now has more power and torque, those figures are still modest compared to some, so i would try it, feel for any revs rising under load, and if you experience any slip, that it's the next upgrade in your tuning journey, maybe swap to Amsoil, or consider actually beefing up the clutch as most guys do with the 131 kit.! Hope that helps.. Happy Holidays.. Del.
