This riverfront walk and area is one of my very favorite places in Thailand. A good guest house with a 2nd or 3rd story room facing the river, with a balcony is as good as it gets. Sitting out there in the evening, feet on the rail, watching the sundown is magic. Further down the market branches in a bit from the road, to provide an enclosed long market walkway with several branches. There is quality stuff from Laos, Cambodia, China and of course Thailand at really good prices. Great food all along too. This village, the very ancient temple a few kilometers south(on the river) and all the rest of Nong Khai is not to miss. I showed up at the airstrip in 1964. I wish I could have never left.

While strolling on the walkway look for Macky's Riverside Kitchen which is located at the Western Entrance to the Tha Sadet Market on the Mekong River Promenade. Serving Thai and Western Food it is the best place to stop for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner.

A cool mix of modern and retro? American tourists are very satisfied with a trip in the garden of Thayland. This clip is so bored. I could put you on other things ..... read a good book about how you meet people. You are boring and very annoyingly boring with breakfast too. I do not see the Americans talking to each other in guesthouses at breakfast. But talking and playing on the phone with Instragram e.c.t. What an intriguing journey you make. You can see that on this video.

As much as I do enjoy the atmosphere, I can't help but notice the minor absurdity here. I mean, there is no real place to browse or stroll through the market because the motorbike traffic essentially provides no place for this necessity. There needs to be places to walk unimpeded by the motorbike traffic.

You are right, the moto bikes are annoying and make so much noise. They could drive on a back lane and not along the river. But Thais do not so much care about noise as westerners do. They grew up with noise.

Nigel Beard You’re so right! Actually not even good for a holiday or short stay. It’s all about money.
