I think this is a great mantra "comfortably house ourselves, not our stuff" on a practical and personal level! Best Wishes! Mary

Hi Nancy! As far as I'm concerned, these same principles would apply to a home too, especially a smaller home. One thing I notice people who van camp for months at a time tend to do is bring way more clothes than they need. 7 to 10 days is really enough because most people can get to a laundromat every 10 days or so. Tshirts & pants/leggings/shorts can usually be worn 2x before needing to be washed. 10 days of underwear is plenty, maybe 12 if one is going to boondock. All of that could easily fit in one 14" x 16" cube-size container under a bed, if each item is rolled up for maximum packing efficiency. I think a great challenge would be: how few items can you pack and still meet your needs for a 2-week trip, while keeping the 'living' space in a minivan open and clutter-free. I think it can be done! Happy May to you!

There is a young man that comes to my house to do his laundry every 2 weeks. He only ever brings 1 small duffel bag. He lives in a basement suite and doesn't have use of laundry facilities there. I know it can be done; I have seen it!

Absolutely! I completely agree! I bring way less clothes than most people. And it’s just because I know that a weeks worth of clothes can actually turn into two weeks worth of clothes because not everything you do is a dirty job and you can definitely get a couple days where out of certain articles of clothing, these are all very good thoughts, I appreciate you taking the time to jot them down for all of us! Very good food for thought! Hope you’re having a fantastic day, thanks for comment😃🙌🏼💯

Great points to pass along! We are big on the DESIGNATE as well! Returning things to their original area so we know where it is - organization is KEY. And - we agree with the deciding on things - our items change from trip to trip and season to season - and we LOVE the ability to be able to change it out! Great points Nancy!

Thank you for another great video. I have a list of all my gear and document, what I take on each trip. When I get back to homebase I evaluate the trip and everything I took. I add notes. At the top of the spread sheet is a phrase: Less is more. With each roadtrip, my systems get more efficient and I take less. Two thoughts that really keep me on track when I am packing are: #1: Less is more. #2: There are stores and thrift stores in almost every town... even really small towns. Bonus, try something local when you run out of something... Thank you again for taking us along on your journey.

Thanks for watching! And for this informative comment! You and I are very like-minded! I do the same thing, and have the same thought process. Write down two things that you think well packing! 😃💯
The key is to be practical, efficient, and clutter free! The same thing, always evaluating my trips. Did I use something? Did I not use it? Always tweak the plan. Thanks for taking the time to comment! I hope you’re having a fantastic 2024!😃🙌🏼💯

I use the dining room table for needs and then find a place for the needs. Then I put my wants on the table. Anything I can find a place can go. Then I look at the leftover wants and sometimes I exchange want I more want.

Good info 👍 going from a mini van to a jeep grand Cherokee limited...so this is good timing. I was going to do a storage box with a flex solar panel on top. But any who wish me luck 🤞☘️

Take her advice seriously! I use a small SUV, and it works well because I planned everything out and got rid of any junk that I found was just taking up space. I am also a backpacker, so that made planning for camping in a small SUV easy. Year before last, I used a van and I could fit my cot in it. The SUV, no way. I have made it work well for me though.

I was gone for five months winter of 22-23 and I took way too much stuff.
That trip was in a Class C RV. This summer will be in my 2018 DGC.

    Is it under the van?

Will your fabulous little kitchen box go on top of the table when you take off to camp? I'm going to be snowbirding in the southern states for 6 months (from Canada) I'm afraid that if I start out nice and minimal (because I'm quite like you with needing both visual and other clutter not there)...that along the way I may need this or that and things will acummulate! Wonder how I'll best handle that! Hopefully those 'things' will be small and inconsequential and can be easily stored. I'll be removing the two front seats (for the 6 months) to access the cubby spaces below as I won't have a raised bed to store things. When I finally get things all set closer to Oct (God willing!), I'll send you a personal little video so you can critique! haha. Always love listening to and seeing your videos!

Thanks for watching! And I’d absolutely love to see your set up! Thank you for the invite! You know, if you leave with everything you need, anything you acquire along the way will be a want.
Wants aren’t terrible things, but they can definitely become glittery if you don’t have a place to put them. Just be thoughtful maybe have a carrier where you can keep things that you won’t need regularly. Where you could put your things that you acquire along the way. Keep in touch! I’m glad you’re able to get out there and have an adventure! Have a fantastic weekend!😃🙌🏼💯
