    I discovered Borough Furnace online completely by accident, read about John and Liz and their business, ordered one, waited for nearly 9 weeks and the skillet arrived as promised - on time and beautiful... There is something to be said about the art of hand crafting - because no two items are identical, therefore yours is unique. I been using my Borough Furnace skillet for many types of cooking styles including braising. In one word: AMAZING... After seeing this video, time to try Steak Au Poivre...

    This is totally right... nothing wrong about this at all. I love it. Great cast iron, great dish, great beverage, and Bourdain presenting? I'm hooked already.

      I feel this way except with all his shows. I've been binging all his stuff when I can for a few weeks now. Such a tragedy that he was in so much pain but his legacy is something to be extremely proud of. He lived about as full a life as anyone does, even if it was too short.

      @@cameronwinrow554 True. Well, maybe that's the thing though. If we live faster, it doesn't take as long to live a complete life. Live slower, you have to stick around longer to experience it all. Same net experience. Still, I miss him too. Best, @HoneyOnWales

    Interesting but doesn't hold a candle to his other stuff. Kudos to him for trying to promote things he was passionate about. And yes, it killed me to erase "is" and change it to "was". It didn't touch what I'm passionate about, but I'll continue this series to see what he wanted to promote. All hail Anthony Bourdain.

    Truth be told I probably have a man crush on AB. Seems like the kind of guy you wish you were friends with. And I totally see how this is an AB show. Hand crafting seems to be making a comeback so I'm surprised this show didn't get picked up on TV, maybe it still will. I love the concept though. We are such a made in China society that wants everything right now, that most of us don't even know they make things by hand any more. This shines a well deserved light on the few craftsman we have left.

    I noticed they did sand the inside, but I wonder how they compare to an old Wagnerware or Griswold. Those old ones looked like they were machined flat on the inside, and they are very smooth. Modern ones tend to be missing that finishing step. Lodge for example is just as rough on the inside as at is on the outside.

    I have to say the product placement from the sponsor is classy. I hate the "beat you over the head" product placement becoming more common on tv and internet series. this is clear but unobtrusive, as well a classy product to begin with.

      "Classy" Are you kidding? This ENTIRE clip SOLELY exists as paid product placement for some hooch. I mean, come on, that bottle close up at the end was about the *least* subtle product placement outside a Hollywood film. This is a commercial trying much too hard to pretend to be something else.

    $280 for a 9" cast iron skillet? You're off your nut!
    You can get a polished Wagner for $35, and a Lodge that does all you need a cast iron skillet to do for $10.

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +dLimboStick Too expensive for me too, but they're handmade and designed with a cool touch handle. You won't find anything similar for $10. They're still in business and get lots of good press so they must be doing something right. Some people buy Aston Martins. I get by with my Honda.

    • @dLimboStick
      @dLimboStick 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      OMGWTFLOL
      Like I said, you can get a polished Wagner for $35 for a 12" pan. At least Aston Martin can justify their price with the engineering and the hand crafting. There is no justification for a $289 price on a 9" cast iron pan. They didn't invent a new material. They're using cast iron, which has been around for thousands of years. The "cool touch" handle is not their design, they spent zero engineering time on that technology. The only reason to purchase this pan is to brag(?) that you spent $289 on a piece of cookware.

Hopefully she has a strong support system to and aide her. You sir, have stopped the pain...hers and others are just beginning. I know...I almost ended my life a few years ago and never realized all the lives I would have affected ...If u are there at that point. Take a breath, get up away from what ever ur doing and call the hot line. They are wonderful and they saved my life. Yes I spent 2 weeks in a hospital unit and yes it was court ordered. Just sayin.... You really think that a 2 person shop is going to turn out cheaper goods than lodge's factory can? On furnace 's site, the pan that they made in this video goes for $280.00. You have no idea what you're talking about.

      Unless you intended to write MORE expensive. If that's the case then I'm with you. They'd have to bring in the same kind of automation lodge uses to bring the cost down before I'd think about one of these.

    At 4:56 John and Liz look very uncomfortable with their hipster creations actually being used to cook food. Surely they're hoping to get a gig on the Food Network hawking their $300 pans which are somehow better than the $15 Lodge pans you can get at Walmart or the $5 BS&R pans you can get at the nearest thrift store.

      Love my Lodge griddle and the two cast iron pans that were my mom's, but I have serious pan envy for one of these.
      Beautifully crafted and that handle is a big selling point.

    Spare me....there's a sucker born every minute. Great old, seasoned cast iron pans can be had for a few dollars at any Goodwill in America--I have a set and they're wonderful!

      +blipblip88 Yeah, but these ones are made from used disc brakes and vegetable oil. Wait...shouldn't they be less expensive then? I agree, it's a bit of a scam but some people will pay more for handmade items crafted with the environment in mind. Not you or I, but some people.

      Same here,besides who would want traces of brake oil and other automotive fluids in their food,coming deep inside from those skillets?

    You could do this work somewhere where labour is cheap and seriously reduce the price and make a lot of them. As long as you do good quality control.
