I discovered Borough Furnace online completely by accident, read about John and Liz and their business, ordered one, waited for nearly 9 weeks and the skillet arrived as promised - on time and beautiful... There is something to be said about the art of hand crafting - because no two items are identical, therefore yours is unique. I been using my Borough Furnace skillet for many types of cooking styles including braising. In one word: AMAZING... After seeing this video, time to try Steak Au Poivre...
This is totally right... nothing wrong about this at all. I love it. Great cast iron, great dish, great beverage, and Bourdain presenting? I'm hooked already.
I feel this way except with all his shows. I've been binging all his stuff when I can for a few weeks now. Such a tragedy that he was in so much pain but his legacy is something to be extremely proud of. He lived about as full a life as anyone does, even if it was too short.

Great series! Just what this world needs as far as learning and discovering what it means to craft things vs crap things (mass production). Thank you Mr. Bourdain for your insight and passion for such. Keep up the great work!
I’m a senior Kentuckian and my go-to wedding gift is a Living Bible and a Lodge cast iron 10 inch skillet!! Two items I send with a prayer that the marriage lasts as long as those two items🥰!
Great series with terrific, talented folks and beautifully photographed/produced. Anthony has the nicest friends, too. Really like the way the sponsor's product is so nicely and seamlessly integrated into the show. Part of the furniture, warm and cozy.
This is great! I love my old cast iron cookware, but the handle design is wonderful! How many have had their hands burnt on a cast iron skillet handle? ✋me! So great, when a lot of the good manufacturers have left the states. I have a Warner that is my go to for eggs! Good job! Plus, I love that they are local, go Upstate NY!
Interesting but doesn't hold a candle to his other stuff. Kudos to him for trying to promote things he was passionate about. And yes, it killed me to erase "is" and change it to "was". It didn't touch what I'm passionate about, but I'll continue this series to see what he wanted to promote. All hail Anthony Bourdain.
Wow, one of the great storytellers of our lifetime, lost to all mankind for nothing, over a woman! I never missed his series on "Destination Unknown" he must have had a cast-iron stomach to handle some of the food I saw him eat on his show!
Truth be told I probably have a man crush on AB. Seems like the kind of guy you wish you were friends with. And I totally see how this is an AB show. Hand crafting seems to be making a comeback so I'm surprised this show didn't get picked up on TV, maybe it still will. I love the concept though. We are such a made in China society that wants everything right now, that most of us don't even know they make things by hand any more. This shines a well deserved light on the few craftsman we have left.
With Wok Hei its also that when you toss in a wok over a fire small bits of oil and food catch a flame for a fraction of a second giving a slight smokey almost burnt note.
I noticed they did sand the inside, but I wonder how they compare to an old Wagnerware or Griswold. Those old ones looked like they were machined flat on the inside, and they are very smooth. Modern ones tend to be missing that finishing step. Lodge for example is just as rough on the inside as at is on the outside.

I have to say the product placement from the sponsor is classy. I hate the "beat you over the head" product placement becoming more common on tv and internet series. this is clear but unobtrusive, as well a classy product to begin with.
I agree! Please fund my future beehive/foundry experiments. (the sad part is I actually got beehives ontop of our foundry, but y'know there's bitching then there's doing)
"Classy" Are you kidding? This ENTIRE clip SOLELY exists as paid product placement for some hooch. I mean, come on, that bottle close up at the end was about the *least* subtle product placement outside a Hollywood film. This is a commercial trying much too hard to pretend to be something else.
I want his recipe! Looked like salt the steak, course ground peppercorn crust. Sear, cook to temp, make sauce. Whiskey, heavy cream, and broth in the sauce?
$280 for a 9" cast iron skillet? You're off your nut! You can get a polished Wagner for $35, and a Lodge that does all you need a cast iron skillet to do for $10.
+dLimboStick Too expensive for me too, but they're handmade and designed with a cool touch handle. You won't find anything similar for $10. They're still in business and get lots of good press so they must be doing something right. Some people buy Aston Martins. I get by with my Honda.
OMGWTFLOL Like I said, you can get a polished Wagner for $35 for a 12" pan. At least Aston Martin can justify their price with the engineering and the hand crafting. There is no justification for a $289 price on a 9" cast iron pan. They didn't invent a new material. They're using cast iron, which has been around for thousands of years. The "cool touch" handle is not their design, they spent zero engineering time on that technology. The only reason to purchase this pan is to brag(?) that you spent $289 on a piece of cookware.
+dLimboStick Oh really? You think an Aston (any model) is really worth the asking price? You don't think there's any bragging involved? A 50 or 60 year-old Ferrari is worth $35 million (and don't start about rarity and Rembrandts)?

I had similar thoughts about Liz looking uncomfortable. I'd eat the steak & finish The Balvenie for her. Cool to see stuff handcrafted but much less expensive from Lodge...just sayin
Samuel Speers Just sayin.... You really think that a 2 person shop is going to turn out cheaper goods than lodge's factory can? On furnace 's site, the pan that they made in this video goes for $280.00. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Always been a fan of Anthony Bourdain's shows. Love handcrafted, buy it for life items. Perfect match in my book. Incidentally, AB looks sharp.
Borough Furnace is sold out of every item on their website! I guess demand for hand crafted items is taking off! Very good!
Can you post the link to the site? I'd like one of those pans. Awesome episode. 👍😉
Still sold out xD
