    I love this man. His humility and self-doubt, set against such a towering talent and such thundering achievements, are overwhelming. Did he retire too early? Perhaps. A full Otello is what many of us wish for, yet, in reality, nothing detracts from one of the finest opera careers in history. Much of what we have on record is thrilling beyond belief. Grazie tanto, Franco!

    I think Corelli did express interest in sharing more about himself, his life, and so on…but he wasn’t asked, for understandable reasons, as many diverse questions as here. This is a perfect interview, with a range of interesting topics; and, in addition, with more “latter-day” Corelli reflections, which help add some clarity to his previous statements on similar, and sometimes the same, subjects.
    In short, I love it!

    It was sad to hear him talk about Il Pirata since that legendary performance was never recorded like all the other roles Callas did at La Scala.

    Still a shame that he seems never to have been able to appreciate personally - or perhaps better put, enjoy - what a great singer he was. Paralyzing self- criticism, and then remorse for his decisions.
