I grew up with your music mister Johnny CLEGG. Back then when I lived in Congo I watched first white man in TV who danced and sang like black man. I understood your message few years later. Now I proud to be an african thanks to men like you. Rest in peace white Zulu.

I was about seven or eight when this song was out. I once tried to do that high kick and kicked myself in the face... I cried. My cousin was cracking up laughing.
All south africans need to unite even more now. It's like when Mandela passed. They're just beacons showing us the way but the love is in all of us. Be kind to your fellow human.
I was in the airport lounge in Johannesburg siting next to a chap with a guitar case, loads of people kept coming up and shaking his hand. Heard someone ask him if he was Johnny Clegg and he confirmed. I googled him because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and found this song. He caught me watching this video on my phone listening to it with my headphones. He smiled! I still think it's amazing though.
Ah prob waiting for someone as always hated smoking or back when it was allowed nearly everywhere in S A and people were more used it around them and maybe the most comfortable spot at the airport at the time.
Wish I knew of Johnny Clegg sooner as a Young South African. Use to hear his music growing up but never knew what great man he was. Rest is peace legend.
Was fortunate enough to meet Johnny @ Gallooleys Farm in JHB some years back. Was walking his dog, if i remember correctly. Very friendly, down to earth guy.

This song and video says it all, he was one of us, in flesh and blood. Living in South Africa in the 80s and early 90s Johnny was an unusual phenomenon in apartheid era South Africa. I remember thinking, "Who is this white guy dressed, dancing and singing like a Zulu. RIP Son and brother of Africa.🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
"Ancient bones in Olduvai" Olduvai Gorge is in the Great Rift Valley of Africa, where the bones of "Lucy" were discovered. Clegg combines science and culture in this great song, and reached me as teenager in the 1980s. After I had seen this video on TV a few times, I paid much more attention to Africa than I had previously. I learned about human origins, and it was wonderful.

Was introduced to Johnny by my dad whilst growing up. He told me that it's real music and i should be listening to such. I lost my dad in 2001 and a year later i came across Johnny Clegg's anthology album in a shop and i bought it, took it home and spent the entire afternoon listening to it. The songs sounded new to me and it has been on my playlist since. Thanks Johnny, its people like you that makes this cruel crazy beautiful world a better place to live in. with love from Papua New Guinea...
I can smell the sunday meals from my Grandma's kitchen. Oh, good comforting memories of unconditional love and all round togetherness even in those days. One Love For Africa.
Yes crazy enough to think that songs can contribute to change mentalities, but natural and sincere and like a John Lennon (imagine) he will have sown some seeds of joy in our heads to listen to very beautiful songs, who will be eternal, like him! Goodbye Jonathan! Goodbye ! From France
Just brought me to tears, listening to this!!! Living in USA almost 23 years now, but the people of Africa, it's sounds and rhythms, resound so strongly in my deepest psychi.....
Just heard the news that Johnny passed away. This first thought was to come listen to one of favourite songs ever. Rest in peace white Zulu. You will be missed😢😢😢
This song never gets old for me. Love all Johnny Clegg's music. Once in a lifetime musician and all-round great human being. Will be missed and never forgotten. Lots of love to his family and extended family & band members!
I love reading the comments on Johnny Clegg's videos, they are so full of love and respect. I often get so disheartened by public posts on the internet but these are just beautiful. Love to you all from England. Xx
He was born in Lancashire in the UK. He is not a white South African. He loved the music, the culture and the dance. He was barred from live performances and selling records during apartheid. We are all humans regardless of skin colour.....check your facts before posting.
i know, thats in agreement with the point i'm making - it doesn't matter where he was born, he moved to SA when he was 6 and has now adopted it as his homeland. I was simply saying that travellingbirder's point that he was born in Lancashire is irrelevant.
He showed us tht we can't or shouldn't judge someone based on a chemical in their skin (melanin) or be prejudice. He was legendary this man. Thank you Clegg Robala boroko bo bogolo.
Heart just broken learning Johnny Clegg passed today. Lord I wish we still had MTV. Scatterlings appeared in Rain Man which spotlighted the song on the soundtrack. RIP. Dance again with Madiba. 🇻🇺
As all our legends pass, I become more and more sentimental. For a time where we were truly one. Even if it was just briefly. I cry for the beloved country. In fact, I can't see through the tears. God bless Africa. Goodbye, South Africa.
I did meet him in 2008 at Protea Midrand...I was there on a business trip, I was 25 and had no clue who he is...BUT my FRENCH colleague totally freaked out...so I had to check him out...Fan since then
