TDI engine project build running by its lonesome, diesel and air only. 12 volt source just to get it started. It eventually will be going in a Toyota trail rig build.
The previous iteration of this engine the TD (no i) was particularly bomb proof. I had one in a Passat, I only filled up once a month, like this one it had no electronics at all. You could pressure wash the engine bay whilst it was running and it wouldn't stop.
Great job guys! That is a great engine choice also. My buddy at work has a 2001 Jetta TDI with 438k. miles on her! Can't wait to see the Tonka roll with it! Curtis
You guys inspired me to put 1.9 tdi in my rabbit. After watching this vid I did a bunch of research and made my own hybrid pump for a 1.9 I found dirt cheap. Went with bigger nozzles and now I’m waiting on some gaskets to go bigger turbo! Thank you!
A dinosaur engines, one of the best diesel ever made by VW, there are really popular here in EU, a lot of people still have them even it turned over 400.000 kms. Skoda (one of the concern's makes) sold them with 66kw and 81kw, finally 96kw this one already have PD injectors. still doing service. I would assume the one shown would have 74kw or even 66kw if it's from golf. Super cheap parts, really reliable engine with low consumption!!! my 1.9 TDi 77kw 2006 Octavia II. and my wife's 2.0 TDi 103 kw facelifted octavia II 2009 we curently drive could not be ever compared, both complicated PDs injectors....full of electronic devices such a pain...miss my old octavia 2002 I. 81kw!!! or golf IV 2001 74kw
Indeed. Stepping down two cylinders from a AKE 2.5 TDI (also a decently reliable engine) to this as my winter daily. A buddy drove his 1.9 TDI past 600k kilometers just recently, it even seem to have retained most if not all the horses too.
@@swiclabc even 96kw has been a PD!!! Put this text to google translator “před časem potěšen oznámením automobilky, že se zavádí montáž TDI motoru s výkonem 96 kW. Best engine 1.9TDI 90hp, till now 2.5 milion kilometers in 20 years. No big problems, regular oil change and time belt. Only bad spots are: electro magnetic ventil on bosh pump(fixed by direct connecting wire on ventil from light position) and intercooler pipe always blow(fixed with duck type).
This is a part of history that made vw one of the biggest car makers in the world. Every part is so fucking huge on this motor regardless to fact it has 90-110bhp. You get there a oil filter that comes from a 10liter truck! Solid and simple.

Hi you are amazing. Would you consider putting a VW Diesel into my s10 blazer. Diesel Conversion specialist makes a bolt up kit to a Chevrolet Transmission (adapter plate, starter, fly wheel etc...
Deano! What's up. The intake on those diesels are notorious for getting clogged up. Also I have an almost infinite supply of fryer oil if you want to biodiesel it. Good luck. It looks pretty interesting.
JOOOHHHNNNIIEEEEEEE!!! This will likely have a high mounted snorkel intake fed directly to the turbo. Sadly, its all been moved into store for the winter. We lost our barn/workspace (grandmothers property is up for sale) so it may be a bit until we can get back at it. Still have lots to do on the frame and what not.
Might need a few more parts for that Yota. That is exactly what I would do with that motor though. Good on ya. Maybe put it in a Samurai or an old beat to shit Jeep. Good luck!
I know this is an old video but for anyone wanting to make a similar modification you can get a fully mechanical p-pump from an older rabbit or golf 1.6 and it will practically bolt right in to where the 1.9 pump sits and I believe uses the same cam belt gear but could be wrong. The only thing that you have to look out for is injector / pump tuning. Ideally you'd use the 1.6 injectors to start off with to make sure the conversion works as they will match how the pump is tuned, but could go back to the 1.9 or bigger aftermarket injectors that way you can lower the overall duration of the injector fire, and therefore you can reduce egts and up the power, but that is if you are trying to really tune it to how it should be, a 1.6 pump and injectors will make this 1.9 a dog but usable, but there is a plethora of modifications you can do to tune the pump with bigger injectors. Buying an old pump is risky, but an old pump can almost always be rebuilt and retuned, as long as there is a parts market, or you can learn to resource and reuse old parts, but that requires having a good amount of space for an abundance of good and bad parts to salvage from, which can turn into a cluster-phobic headache or an eyesore for most who don't see the value.
I'd like to purchase the info, specifics, specifications... that you've figured out so I can avoid the research and trial and error. I have a eurovan and am ready to convert. I prefer the non computerized conversion and am pressed by your work.
