I do believe the name “selfless” doomed Hyram. It just seemed so performative & self-promoting & not at all selfless. I think companies are starting to understand the short lifecycle of most influencers’ moment of fame, and get on it faster. Hyram was already declining in popularity by the time the line came out. I personally suspect they analyze influencer content to determine the key ingredients, I srsly doubt Hyram was actually super involved because he’s still the least knowledgeable on the team. He was a skincare “specialist” in SALES. He does not know how to make skincare, like most influencers, I don’t believe they’re really involved outside of color and scent. How could they be? They don’t know anything about formulation. I trust Ramon’s sunscreen because he knows how to make sunscreen. I’d trust a product from Lab muffin too but happy she’s doing a book instead (her professional name is Dr Wong btw, if you’re looking for it). But I just don’t understand WHY non-scientist influencers would be involved at any but the most surface level. It’s easy enough to identify the top 10 ingredients an influencer mentions, & incorporate them. But how would Hyram be telling phDs what goes in what?????
I didn't know Michelle was writing a book, so Thank You for the heads up. I totally agree with your other comments. I did purchase the Selfless cleanser a few times and I liked it but found products I like better and honestly forgot about the line. I also stopped watching Hyram's videos because I found creators like Michelle and Ramon. I prefer their content because of their education background.
Exactly. It always confused me that Hyram called himself a skincare specialist, not a specialist at X company or whatever, when his training was only as a salesperson for one brand. Like, The Disney Store called their sales staff “cast members,” but that doesn’t mean that they could just wander backstage on Broadway and be like, “don’t worry about it, I’m a cast member.”

The second thing that I learned when I went to the beach in Brazil was to not get lime juice on my skin. The first being to avoid sun exposure during peak times even with sun protection. Lime is heavily used in popular drinks there such as the Caipirinha (alcoholic) or sugar cane juice and is very widely known to cause burns on skin with sun exposure. Being careful not to spill and always washing your hands is common practice. This goes for any other citrus type fruits as well. My mother in law was horrified when I told her about using lemon juice in hair to lighten it 😅
I would assume most products with active ingredients would degrade into something questionable if left in 50 degrees Celsius for extended periods of time…🤦♀️
The first video of yours I watched was (I think) the one where you explained your problem with L'Occitane. Since then I've been religiously watching and enjoying your content very, very much. But my love for it has lately reached levels I didn't know I needed :) Love the way you explain things, love your love for discovering and sharing, love how your passion for education seeps through (once a vocational teacher always a vocational teacher,or so I like to think) Thank you for your hard work, the information you share and the fun I have watching your content! ❤❤❤
I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you have made for years and years. I took a break from the beauty community (I was being over influenced and got into debt from buying too much makeup and skincare 😂). I was overjoyed to see you were still doing Beauty News when I came back recently. I used to get up early to watch your lives. I feel like I could only watch you and be up to date on what's happening. Thanks Jen. 💟
Wow the story about the artifacts found in Iran is soooo cool!!!!! That is so fascinating, I wonder who the lipstick wearer was, what their life was like, how incredible to discover that!! Amazing episode as always !! ❤
Lol. Love your sarcasm about the benzoyl peroxide. After I read the study, I came to the conclusion that there may be some justification for beauty fridges after all.
I so look forward to your videos and lives! Always great info, especially for those of us who aren't super active on other social media platforms. So glad I found you about a year ago now. I'm 40, so it's harder to find relatable creators these days. Your content is top notch, too, and the work you put in is so evident! Thank you for being you ❤ Also, I've said it before and will say it again - emerald green is STUNNING on you 🤩 Makeup on point, too!
I wish Hyram all the success with his new skincare journey and I’m actually excited for what’s to come! As for the last report about the lipstick…that was so fascinating and I loved hearing about the long history and how it could have been made! Even back then humans were concerned with beauty and looks and it makes me winder what they did for skincare since all they had was pure nature loving ingredients to work with!!!xoxoxo
34:34 How is this new? Everyone who has squeezed a lemon at a picnic can tell you about chemical burns caused by the interaction of citric juices and sun. I learned this the hard way. When a was a teenager, I helped in a fundraising fair by “manning” the ‘mango twist’ stand. (For your knowledge, mango twist is green mango cut in ribbons and seasoned with salt, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce and pumpkin seeds powder. It’s delicious). Our stand wasn’t in the shade, and we didn’t have a juicer, so I had to squeeze hundreds of limes that day while being roasted by our tropical sun. I got second degree burns in both hands. You can still see some of the damage 40 years later.
Just a not that a bill can originate from either branch of congress. Then the other branch has a chance to review and modify the bill before they vote on it. By the time a bill goes to the president for signing it can be vastly different than the original.
How do they even know? Do they check your phones? What if you have two phones? If you never post and just watch and have no identifying images I don't know how they would even know. I don't use it myself, just because I find it a waste of time, short form content I find gives such a dopamine hit that you end up spending way too long just scrolling. I found I was losing hours of time without moving, so I just don't use it now
@@gameplaygirl3268 Ummm. It’s completely banned on Government owned phones. I have “clearance”, so I need to be mindful of what I do online. ByteDance shares information (allegedly) with the CCP, so I stay away.
When I hear that a company with deep pockets and no digital footprint is investing in a U.S. brand, I think of foreign money from sources that are unpopular, or even U.S. money that isn’t strictly legal, i.e., shell corporations. The fact that the only record of this BH company is a recent state registration just screams shell corporation to me…and that in itself is fishy.
I just noticed the change in the video title and wanted to say, Thank You! I usually just watch the top news, even when it was still one video. I don't always watch the day it's released so this will make it easy to tell which is which. ❤
You're so welcome! I'm going to keep putting it in there when it fits, but there is a character limit. Another thing you can look for is that, in the thumbnail, I'm putting just Makeup News for top news and adding the "Product Report" label on the right for that segment.
Dr Dray and Michelle (Lab Muffin Beauty) are the voice of sanity. I completely changed my skincare routine (during COVID) when I started watching Dr Dray. My skin has new looked better. Like you, I trust these doctors with my skin’s life !
So do I! Honestly I went into using it fully expecting to not like it, but its great! Fantastic texture, skin feels clean but not stripped. He’sgot a winner with that one
i definitely still agree about the red flags in not being able to find BHM. i don't know much about incubator brands (nor could i understand the jumble that was his reply to your DM) but what i could see is that there doesn't appear to be a business by that name in hyram's state (hawaii) based on the business entity search. there's a lot of variations in the name in other states (i checked delaware as that's where almost all businesses are incorporated because of their laws/business courts) and there's like "BHM holdings" "BHM incorporated" "BHM capital" etc etc. personally i just wouldn't want to be buying things from a brand that doesn't at least have public info on who the companies involved are!
The BHM Brands thing is mysterious. In my line of work, I check for a website for companies when they are looking for money. In one case, the company that had no website consisted of two people. No accounting department or anything, just two people. 🤔
There is a huge difference between FB and IG and a company partially owned by the CCP, and the concerns are irrelevant to FB, X, IG, Rumble, etc.. The Bill is extremely narrow and only applies to platforms partially owned by one of four adversary governments...China, Iran, North Korea or Russia.
I don't think the UK redundancy is similar to ISA unemployment. The UK has unemployment benefits too. Redundancy pay is a one off payment, only applicable if you have worked for the company for 2 years+ and it is a week's pay for each year you have been employed by the company, it's slightly different amounts if you are under 22 or over 40, that's the statutory amount, some companies have better pay outs as part of their contract. You can also apply for unemployment benefits. Redundancy pay is more like severance pay, but it's mandatory in UK, whereas it's not in the USA
When I was a kid and went to the British Museum for the first time, the things that captured my imagination and held it were the jewelry and, of course, the women's toiletry items. The thought that women in ancient times sat at their mirrors and did their hair and put on their make-up? Amazing! Just as seeing that wonderful ancient lipstick just now did.
I use it and it’s changed my life. Thanks to TikTok I found out I have a genetic disorder. 2 years trying to figure shit out with my doctors and nothing. Saw a video on TikTok, went exploring, took it to my doctor and now I’m officially diagnosed. You determine what you want to use ANY social platform for.
I think that if the government was really concerned about the safety of us, they would put in sanctions or laws that say that corporations cannot gather data by people outside their app/website. However, data farming and selling is such a big market, that American companies do it all the time. Meta, a TT competitor, does it, so if they pass bills like that, then American companies (who pay campaigns and help get certain people in office) would have to comply. I don't think they care about American data, I think they just wanna make more money for themselves.
I bought skincare by Hyram in discount at TK max here in Europe. I have seen some vids and I didn’t really like his attitude at times but I tried to be open minded. The products were actually pleasantly surprising me, they are however a bit ‘light’ to me..as if it’s for the sensitive girls. Not heavy duty. But overall I like his products and I would buy for the summer or when skin is upset. (They are not available anymore in Europe right now) The consistency of the green cleanser is a bit watery at times, but that’s my favorite. The salicylic acid sea kelp serum is super refreshing (does not do much to clean my pores though). Retinol serum and moisturizer are not enough for my dry skin. There’s an air of pretentiousness that’s haunting him, but I will say for people who are sensitive and don’t like fragrance it’s a good brand..maybe this would even be better for Sephora kids to use (rebrand for the kids?). Just an idea.
I feel like besides his friends and fans no one was buying Hyram’s skincare. There’s so many skincare brands out there so if you want your brand to sell then you need to stand out. Either with your pricing or your formulations and packaging. Selfless did neither of those things. Hopefully buying his brand back will turn things around for him but without a rebrand I don’t think it will.
Bhm brands LLC isn't even listed on the sign of its mailing address on Google. It seems kind of weird because even if they want to go under the radar how would new or prospective employees find the place
Before I even got through the video I was looking up BHM brands LLC and NOTHING was coming up because I too was curious of all the brands they've done so well on! Thanks Jen for confirming! That's soooooo weird
Jen Kackie had made a great point about TikTok , she said that in China TikTok is restricted amongst school kids to only x hours a day. And also focuses more on STEM. But here in America there is no time ban and full of rubbish.. I thought it was so interesting.
The thing that bothers me is, instead of passing a bill that protects our privacy from all apps its ONLY going after tiktok, as though there aren't many other chinese apps on our phones. I think concerns are valid, but banning the app does not address the ACTUAL issues here, nor fix anything in the long term. Its short sighted imo.
I heard one of the congressmen say banning tik tok was standing up for our freedom! Wtf? Banning anything is infringing on our freedom no matter what side you are on.
With the TikTok ban looming over in the USA, the CEO is now doing his best to prevent it from occurring in Canada as well right now by collaborating with Canadian influencers. The funny thing is that we don't have a creator's fund like the US does. So I wonder, if this ban DOES occur in the States, will they then move onto having a fund in Canada as an incentive to gain more users and convince the federal government about the pros of the app?
Very behind on watching this but I just want to shout out that I live in the town morris halawani has listed as his location on linked in! I’m going to have to try and do my own sleuthing around town and find him for Jen 😂
I remember I took sulfa and I got a red itchy rash every time I went out into the sun every time. The doctor told me to stop taking the sulfa immediately, and to never take it again. My mom is allergic to sulfa . The doctor got mad at me and asked me why didn’t tell her. I had just found out after I had the reaction. apparently sulfa reactions are passed down from the mother. And she wouldn’t have given me sulfa if she knew about it.
Some countries have full bans on TikTok, including Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal and Somalia. Regions with partial bans and the devices they're banned on include the following: Australia -- on devices issued by some individual government agencies. Belgium -- on federal government work devices. The European Parliament, European Commission, and the EU Council, the three top EU bodies, have all banned TikTok on staff devices, citing cybersecurity concerns. The European Parliament's ban took effect on March 20. It also “strongly recommended” that members of parliament and staff remove the app from their personal devices as well. Several European Nations imposed bans on TikTok for government workers due to security and privacy issues. These include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, and the U.K.
I don’t have much of an opinion on any part, but I wanted to say “thank you” for making my Sunday cleaning, much more pleasant. You are awesome and I love What’s up in Makeup!
Also TikTok has to store all data in servers here in the US. I don’t get their issue. Meta shares/sells all that data also. I think this is much more about not liking the fact people are learning about things our government is doing. Plus forcing a company to sell is a scary concept.
If they are going to ban Tiktok, why not Temu? I am neither pro nor against banning, but if you're going to open this door you better apply the same logic to ALL the other foreign based platforms.
Doing a little more research, ByteDance that owns tiktok is literally like the 2nd largest Chinese company. It's seems like size is the biggest factor here. Also, the Chinese government has a Board seat in ByteDance. So they do have a say as a government, in how the company is run
they don't like tiktok because a lot of information is able to be disseminated through there without USA propaganda. shops like temu/shein are different because all of our stuff here is manufactured in china anyway. tiktok is often used as a news platform nowdays though because there's only 2-3 companies that own all of the media (including news) in the US now.
If you want to know the issue, try posting something negative about the CCP on Tiktok and see how quick you get banned. You say anything you want about America though.
So basically on a hot summer day down here in Florida, if I was buying skin care and had to go to other places, I just put it in my bag of choice. I did the same thing with the polishes as well because one of my mom‘s nail polish that she bought at a sally did explode in her car one time on the hot summer day. Or better yet, And someone’s home is nearby. Just take it home right away during the summer and then go back out.
As a non-American, I'm not affected by this at all but it is so weird to me that they are banning TikTok but not other social media apps when they all do the same thing. The only difference is TikTok is not an American-owned app if it was they wouldn't care.
That is the point. The Bill solely applies to any platform partially owned by one of four adversary governements...Iran, Russia, China or North Korea, which is extremely valid.
@@betsybabf748 but why should the rest of the world trust an American company to keep our data safe? Didn't Meta an American company get in trouble because of this?
Tell me it sounds like a factory, one part you left out with the tiktok band is 60% of the app is already owned by Black rock. 10% is owned by the employees and 20% is owned by two people who created the app. Also, China has a law where, sell part of a company that is owned by Chinese businesses.
It makes me laugh the way Americans say I-ran😁(I really mean no disrespect, love your accents and pronunciations) but it's EEran. Actually Persia if you I wanted to be pedantic, and TBH not one bit surprised that it's found there (if you know, you know) 🥰 BTW, I'm Persian
As a teacher, I cannot stand TikTok and the influence it has on so many impressionable youth. If this ban happens, I hope creators and business using the platform can find a way to make things work on other platforms. Instagram, TH-cam shorts, Facebook, they all still exist!
I don't do tiktok I like longer content. Learn a few things, see makeup tutorials, and it's nice to see creator's personalities come out a bit. Banning tiktok won't affect me.
I'm quite confused by that valisure (or however you spell their name) company. I thought 3rd-party meant that it's a person/group that has no financial interest or incentives related to whatever the point of contention is? So how come their CEO has a vested financial interest in a shelf stable BS-marketing-words benzene competition product?
As a mom of a 9 year old, I absolutely despise Tik Tok. I feel like it making a generation of dumb, misinformed kids with short attention spans. 🤷🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
I am also a mom of a 9 year old who uses tiktok successfully to promote and grow my small business. My 9 year old barely has any concept of what tiktok is, does not have a phone, and no access to social media, so that's not an issue for me. Kids shouldn't have access to tiktok but that isnt a reason to ban it
The minimum age for Titkok is 12/13 btw 🤷♀️ And it's not that different from youtube depending on your algorithm. Basically, if you only want to watch brainrot, you will only get brainrot lol
I'm right there with you, the app is toxic and people who defend it because they grew their small business on it... well there are other ways to promote and grow small businesses, loads did it long before tiktok existed.
I have a university eduction and the LEAST they could do is get it PEER REVIEWED. Disgusting how companies can cause this much fear. How about doing more studies on the sun and how damaging that is and how people can use sunscreen more/better!
I hope Hyram's skin care line stays around. Personally I love moisturizer from his brand. It is super light weight (which I love as an oil person) and I loved to use it as an eye cream at night under my heavy moisturizer. I do really like the cleanser too, but for mine the cap broke and leaks because of the cap not sealing correctly anymore so I hope him switching over to this new company helps him fix some of the packing stuff. I know he chose a lot of the package for eco-friendly reasons but it does seem to be some of the reasons why people don't like them.
That’s a great idea. For me the moisturizer is not heavy enough for my dry skin, but I think it would be great for summer when I want something light weight. I will try to use it as eye cream instead, I think jt will be good for the sensitive areas on my face and then combine it with something heavy duty.
Yes they already warned that the cleanser might leak. There’s watery product in the cap a lot of times, you definitely need a good cap. I really like that cleaner, it is my favorite I tried from Hyram. (I bought everything on discount and was curious, finally tried a bunch of his products.)
Omg I would give anything to be there if Jen ever has to take down a 15 yr old in a basement over online drama. I feel like Jen would be very kind & end up getting the kid some help ❤ “Sweety, you can’t be tricking major influencers, let’s talk to your folks, it’ll be ok”

Thank you for being you ❤
Also, I've said it before and will say it again - emerald green is STUNNING on you 🤩 Makeup on point, too!
Bird certified dermatologist made me laugh way more than it should have 😂
🤣🤣🤣same
I love learning about ancient history! I'm going to have to look into that lipstick more!
All medications have a range of temps to store them at-I think adding that to medicated skincare makes sense too even if I’m not scared lol
Just a not that a bill can originate from either branch of congress. Then the other branch has a chance to review and modify the bill before they vote on it. By the time a bill goes to the president for signing it can be vastly different than the original.
I immediatly thought of School House Rocks, thank you for that.😂
I’m a Federal employee. No TT for me, for security reasons.
100% same situation here.
I really had no idea how bad it was until recently.

I love the historical reference piece ❤❤❤❤it would be cool to do more LITTLE SEGMENTS OF HISTORICAL BEAUTY in WUIM😊
Jen, Cute sweater, you look lovely in that color!
I’m struck by how gorgeous she is all the time! Her hair looks AMAZING, her skin is glowing and that green sweater is just perfect for her! ❤❤
It was the first thing I thought when I saw WUIM today! As someone who's learning to knit, too, i was like hmmmm if only I could get the pattern, haha
First off - that candle is SOOOO CUTE! Interesting about Hyram's skincare line - look forward to hearing more about it as the days/weeks go on 😉
I always wanted to buy Hyrams line, but yeh it was crazy expensive. Then in a bargain store, I got 2 different serums for £2.99 each haha
Yes I think they left Europe and we got to try it finally on sale 😅 and now I want to buy the cleanser again but it’s nowhere to be found
How were they?
Dr Dray and Michelle (Lab Muffin Beauty) are the voice of sanity. I completely changed my skincare routine (during COVID) when I started watching Dr Dray. My skin has new looked better. Like you, I trust these doctors with my skin’s life !
I love Selfless by Hyram, their cleanser is my favorite and ive gone through like 20 bottles of it. Im gonna cry if they change that cleanser
Yes that’s my favorite as well!
Happy WUIM day! Sending love to all!🍀💚
Wow! This was a lot! Well done, as usual. Loved the ending story!!! ❤❤ Good luck to Hyram.
Always look forward to your videos, Jen. Thanks for doing research I don't have time for right now! ❤
The BHM Brands thing is mysterious. In my line of work, I check for a website for companies when they are looking for money. In one case, the company that had no website consisted of two people. No accounting department or anything, just two people. 🤔
As far as TikTok...
It's ALL about the money. I don't think our goverment cares about our "data". If so what about Facebook or Instagram?? IMO
It's probably more about the government not being able to control the content, for propaganda reasons. Palestine, Israel, IDF...
That is true. Also TT is based out of Singapore. It has only two Chinese owners among many ( the shares).
It is funny that the Selfless By Hyram cost
There’s something off about TikTok. I don’t have it on my phone, and my company prohibits it from being on company-owned devices.
Some financial institutions also say you can’t have TT on your cell phone.
There's good reason for not having TikTok on any platform where your financial information resides.
Thank you for sharing that benzene info! I’m so sick of the misinformation and companies trying to make us throw out all our products 😾
That color green looks fantastic on you!
I'm allergic to benzoule peroxide in n general with anaphylaxis. Use a patch test
That lipstick story is just facilitating!! Can’t believe that they were just like us, you know what I mean. Just wow !!
I LOVED the Historic segment of this week!! Can it be permanent? Like the légal segment.... We need to find something like youre little gavel!!!
Yep this isn’t about safety at all as much as politicians pretend it is :/
Exxxaaaaactly
Correct answer! It isn't about "China" at all. It's about who would rather have power and control ... and make money ... over the personal data!
You know with all of your research ability I’d LOVE to see the history of make up segment sorry like the one you shared at the end
Lipstick tube is awesome
Gorgeous container for a color shifting, sparkly, ancient lippie!
Yeah it's a free platform that isn't restricted by the government here... that's a good thing..
The content is one thing, but this is about user data.
@@cearathomas930define “good” lol
The thing that bothers me is, instead of passing a bill that protects our privacy from all apps its ONLY going after tiktok, as though there aren't many other chinese apps on our phones. I think concerns are valid, but banning the app does not address the ACTUAL issues here, nor fix anything in the long term. Its short sighted imo.
The teacher in you is really coming thru with that 'bill on capital hill' clip lmao. I remember having to watch that in history and econ xD
I heard one of the congressmen say banning tik tok was standing up for our freedom! Wtf? Banning anything is infringing on our freedom no matter what side you are on.
Also, fantastic show as always. I really like the separate shows now.
I'm allergic to Sulfa. I have 5 children and none have been given Sulfa thus far, but I do wonder if they will also have the same allergic reaction.
So they had the classic red back 4000 years ago! That’s amazing! I have a humanities degree and history is part of what I study.
Never heard of Hyram. How did I miss him? 😮
I don’t have much of an opinion on any part, but I wanted to say “thank you” for making my Sunday cleaning, much more pleasant. You are awesome and I love What’s up in Makeup!
You’re my #1 beauty news!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely not! If we let the government decide tiktok should go, they willthen have the power to take away ANY platform.
very informative Jen I enjoyed it
Also TikTok has to store all data in servers here in the US. I don’t get their issue. Meta shares/sells all that data also. I think this is much more about not liking the fact people are learning about things our government is doing. Plus forcing a company to sell is a scary concept.
Don't really know how I feel about the TikTok ban; 😬 I personally do not have nor use the app but...
If they are going to ban Tiktok, why not Temu? I am neither pro nor against banning, but if you're going to open this door you better apply the same logic to ALL the other foreign based platforms.
There must be something specific with how they run the app. There's so many foreign companies and apps, I feel like it must be something specific
@@tori6943bingo. Specifically pro-Palestine, anti-IDF content.
I recommend watching a video from The Kavernacle on this topic.
Oh I love that lipstick story at the end:)
FACTS! all social media apps sell our data and info lmao now the US is mad bc they can’t have it like they do for the others
That is the main issue. Foreign governments could easily have access to Americans info. I haven’t heard them claim otherwise?
That's the point. They want TikTok to be sold to an American company. If they decline to do so then the ban will occur.
Love love love the ancient liptsick!!❤
I LOVE your videos AND I love Lab Muffin!!!
That 4000 year old lip stick blew my mind! Such a nice little fact to end the video!
Kids shouldn't have access to tiktok but that isnt a reason to ban it
Truth. The TikTok algorithm specifically is soooo damaging to the 🧠. Ban it all imo
The minimum age for Titkok is 12/13 btw 🤷♀️
And it's not that different from youtube depending on your algorithm. Basically, if you only want to watch brainrot, you will only get brainrot lol
@@kaitlynsvintagecloset there are other ways to promote small businesses that don't involve a toxic social media app.
