The story is... The last splatfest aka Callie vs. Marie happened and Marie won causing a breakdown in society as we know it. Causing the inklings to kill eachother, destroyung the tower and killing everything in their path also killing the great zapfish. Causing the respawn pads to not be powered and not work. So each splat was a permanent death. However the last inkling alive aka blue, didn't choose a side. When he woke up to what was leftover. He couldn't take it. Then ended up killing himself. To me I think this is basically internal war between having to choose one Squid Sister over the other. And the whole idea of just choosing one Squid Sister is apocalyptic. This is very good though, it gave me chills.

I totally agree, but I think that, after the final splatfest, everyone has died, including the octolings, and that inkling was the only one left. So, instead of dying of starvation, or going mentally insane from having nobody to talk to, he turns to suicide, which now seems like the only option.

I feel like this animation has deeper meaning behind it. The ruins we see don’t represent the actual ruins of Inkopolis, but the Splatoon community, a vast utopia filled with millions of squids. But now it lie in ruin, torn apart and broken down into the sand of individuals. The main inkling represents those who did not choose, forced to watch the community they helped build all crumble over the final splatfest.
I think the story is, The final splatfest begins with over a million inklings participating, as the splatfest goes the great zap fish runs out of energy. Making the respawn points stop working and the colors and bright lights also stop working.Meanwhile the inking in the video skips the entire fest, and comes back to see his city destroyed because without the respawn points the inklings cannot respawn therefore causing all of the inkings to die and the city to be destroyed .

I think it means that Marie's war against Callie has led them all to death possibly? And that makes everything fade away I do not know why but I think the protagonist to say so of this video did not choose and so maybe it was possibly saved? That's my theory

I think the story is first the decided to make The Last Splatfest.Then all the inklings needed to choose who they wanted except him.Because of that the War started between Marie and Callie by giving and making a lot of death to inklings in the war.inklings same as octolings died because of the multiples deaths the respawns were not in action anymore making 1 shot a painful death with no looking back.at the end nobody won Callie and Mary both dead by the water making itself ink the inkling boy was the only one who didn’t because he didn’t want to hurt his friends that picked differently making him the only inkling in the whole inkling world(same with the octo world).when the war ended the peace in his life was nowhere in him making him soo stressed and just start jelling cuz of the war.at the end he couldn’t deal with it anymore making him feel depressed thinking all was his fault making him want peace in heaven.the message is for me that “everything has a end with fresh no matter what”. Okay, so orange and blue are the only inklings left due to the last splatfest. After a while blue can't take this anymore, and becomes depressed. He goes out to this wasteland of sand and death witch was once the city he lived in. He take one more look around before something inside him snaps, causing him finally end his life. orange realizes this and follows him. She tries calling out, but Blue doesn't care, not anymore.. She falls down to her knees and cries out in pain, as she just watch her partner kill himself. On the ground sobbing, she just likes there wondering if she should carry on living.... Or do the same. She can't decide. Pick a side, kid... IT ALL ENDS WITH FRESH. (Just a little story I thought up, it's bad I know....)
I like how people make storylines to go with this but people need to remember that this is non-canon, besides if it was canon the question is why would Nintendo have something this dark in a game made for KIDS. Plus we have Splatoon 2 and it's new Octoling DLC coming this summer (and possibly a Splatoon 3 later on in the Nintendo Switch's life or for Nintendo's next big console)

Cupcakes Sparkle Basically the idea of the splat fest had gone too far, and the world of splatoon was split by the final splatfest. The options? Callie or Marie. This started a war which destroyed the inkling population. With the great zap fish dead, spawn points no longer functioned. The war, however, raged on anyways. That inkling was the final survivor. He had to chose, and realised how pointless the war was, and instead of choosing, he killed himself with an enemy gun. His final thoughts were most likely, "Stay fresh", hence the name. It's actually pretty sad when you think about it like this.
We've started a war and ended the world due to our own ambitions, our peace destroyed only to entertain one side that we choose just for our own pleasure and selfish desire. Our democracy and connection, ended with our own non benevolent thirst for prosperity.

I was just exaggerating the point of the video lol. But it could cause the community to sometimes break into all out fights and sometimes hateful Miiverse comments. Nothing that serious beyond arguments, though. It's pretty much died down after the last Splatfest, though.

This animation makes me cry inside because it's describes my situation with splatoon. A beautiful world lays in ruin because constant battles . I really love splatoon world and design but I can't fully satisfy by playing because game is highly competitive and fighting is only way of playing. Those constant battles, with every fight , with every rank I get and every battle I won , I was getting less and less enjoyment of this beautifully designed world. And then , at one moment I realized i feel nothing . After long time I see splatoon 3 announced , and I got this excitement again of exploring this world but I know that game not going to give me what I want . It's soo close almost on tip of my fingers, but at same time it's further then never
For all of you who are new and did not experience the event that was the final splatfest of the original Splatoon, allow me to explain this video: This video is about the crushing decision between choosing either Callie or Marie as the superior idol in a splatfest. This decision permanently tore the fanbase in two, and left Splatoon in a relative state of chaos. Everyone who played Splatoon 1 always has it in the back of their mind, who won, who they believe is superior. I think it's a perfect metaphor for a game as chaotic as this. Two different sides fighting for what they believe is right. Endlessly.

This animation is really good yet it's soo heavy! Making a choice as hard as this can really make a person snap. I still can't get over the strong reference to The End of Evangelion. In the end, I believe that it all looks pretty symbolic when it comes to giving the player the hard choice to choose between one beloved Squid Sister over the other for the final Splatfest. It was well done my friend. Please keep up the amazing work! I'd love to see more animations from you. :)

I think the story is first the decided to make The Last Splatfest.Then all the inklings needed to choose who they wanted except him.Because of that the War started between Marie and Callie by giving and making a lot of death to inklings in the war.inklings same as octolings died because of the multiples deaths the respawns were not in action anymore making 1 shot a painful death with no looking back.at the end nobody won Callie and Mary both dead by the water making itself ink the inkling boy was the only one who didn’t because he didn’t want to hurt his friends that picked differently making him the only inkling in the whole inkling world(same with the octo world).when the war ended the peace in his life was nowhere in him making him soo stressed and just start jelling cuz of the war.at the end he couldn’t deal with it anymore making him feel depressed thinking all was his fault making him want peace in heaven.the message is for me that “everything has a end with fresh no matter what”.

I like how people make storylines to go with this but people need to remember that this is non-canon, besides if it was canon the question is why would Nintendo have something this dark in a game made for KIDS. Plus we have Splatoon 2 and it's new Octoling DLC coming this summer (and possibly a Splatoon 3 later on in the Nintendo Switch's life or for Nintendo's next big console)

This started a war which destroyed the inkling population. With the great zap fish dead, spawn points no longer functioned. The war, however, raged on anyways. That inkling was the final survivor. He had to chose, and realised how pointless the war was, and instead of choosing, he killed himself with an enemy gun. His final thoughts were most likely, "Stay fresh", hence the name. It's actually pretty sad when you think about it like this.

This animation makes me cry inside because it's describes my situation with splatoon. A beautiful world lays in ruin because constant battles . I really love splatoon world and design but I can't fully satisfy by playing because game is highly competitive and fighting is only way of playing. Those constant battles, with every fight , with every rank I get and every battle I won , I was getting less and less enjoyment of this beautifully designed world. And then , at one moment I realized i feel nothing . After long time I see splatoon 3 announced , and I got this excitement again of exploring this world but I know that game not going to give me what I want . It's soo close almost on tip of my fingers, but at same time it's further then never

This video is about the crushing decision between choosing either Callie or Marie as the superior idol in a splatfest. This decision permanently tore the fanbase in two, and left Splatoon in a relative state of chaos. Everyone who played Splatoon 1 always has it in the back of their mind, who won, who they believe is superior. I think it's a perfect metaphor for a game as chaotic as this. Two different sides fighting for what they believe is right. Endlessly.

This animation is really good yet it's soo heavy! Making a choice as hard as this can really make a person snap. I still can't get over the strong reference to The End of Evangelion. In the end, I believe that it all looks pretty symbolic when it comes to giving the player the hard choice to choose between one beloved Squid Sister over the other for the final Splatfest.
