here’s hoping we get shotgun support weapons in the future, because once that leaked suppressed assault rifle drops, I am 100% never using another primary.
Support weapons like the machinegun are both viable and extremely helpful at higher levels. Teams with only anti-tank weaponry will get overrun by chaff, and specializing into clearing that on such a team is way better than bringing a 4th whatever flavor of the month everyone is into.
In my experience in 9s its not the chaff that are the problem, you can clear them easily with primaries, grenades and stratagems. Its the heavies and elites that mostly end runs badly. Not that you shouldn't play what you want, obviously.
Grenade launchers are coveted in difficulty 7+ for their chaff clearing capability. When you have 30+ light enemies swarming you, being able to kill them by the dozens is invaluable, and it's worth sacrificing some AT capability. You still typically want at least 2 guys with AT weapons though. The LMG is slightly inferior to the grenade launcher for clearing chaff, but it also has much deeper ammo reserves which makes it viable regardless.
Now that they've changed the spawnrates of chargers and titans, my group has found that we actually need some dedicated horde clearing on 8+ bug missions, usually an LMG or grenade launcher. We usually always have at least 1 set of EATs so they can always just grab a launcher if something really need to die too.
I found it surprisingly effective first time I picked it up. As long as you engage your targets at range or from high elevation you're going to be 1-shotting most targets. I was a little disappointmented when I learned there was no loadout variant.
Something to note: if you dont have a special, its totally worth picking up. you burn through alot of ammo in higher difficulties, so having another weapon to pull from even just for standard use is really nice.
Just wanna say that this is actually pretty creative content thanks for making this, really breaks the monotony of all the HD2 videos I’ve been consuming so far (i have a problem) You sir have earned yourself a subscriber
On Difficulty 6 and lower, I actually like to free up a strat slot I'd normally use for a support weapon, and take a double barrel off the floor as a second secondary until I find another weapon like an Arc Thrower or Machine Gun elsewhere on the battlefield. Scavenging for a support weapon is actually a pretty fun and economical way to play if you know what you're doing. Just be sure to pack something in your newly freed stratagem slot to help you fight heavy armour.
I appreciate the attention to detail from the developers to have this weapon not just exist in the game, but be fully functional with multiple reload animations and everything. I appreciate your time & effort actually using the the thing, as well.
Thanks very much! Obviously I'm limited by the available content in terms of weird gear but I'll do some normal stuff too with the same attention to detail.
Swords, shovels, pitchforks, maybe even lightsabers/laser swords! That would be a ton of fun. Or you could get a Helldivers version of the automaton sword where it would be like yellow.
I felt like I was picking this gun up all the time during my first week with the game but rarely seem to find it now, might just be that my focus has changed and I don't spend as much time looking around though. Whenever I do pass I though I will always snag it, even dumping my support weapon for it if I feel the team and I are doing okay and I can mess around. It would be kinda cool if it spawned in with a bit more ammo, like 10 spare shots could make it become a real saving grace for when you are low on ammo just trying to scurry away and need a few powerful shots to get rid of those few stubborn pursuing Berserkers. Lore-Wise it makes sense, it is no doubt pretty cheap to produce and gives just enough kick for a worker to bring down the first charging bot or bug. I am really excited to see if we get a few more of these random weapons dotted around, some simple 1 shot slug shotgun could be cool or some unique looking personal defence weapons/fancy pistols around high value citizen bodies.
I think what the true speciality of Helldivers is its ability to get us involved into its world. I feel like I’m not just playing a game but entering into a world where I want to play the part 😂
I've found that the EAT works pretty well with the shotgun. The expendable and quick cooldown nature allows you to keep an anti tank option in your pocket where you drop the shotgun and pick up the EAT to quickly deal with a huge threat, and then you pick up the shotgun again. This effectively allows you to run 4 weapons - primary, secondary, and 2 supports. It is a bit weaker in the rp aspect, but I like to head canon as leftover munitions that my diver has access to.
I love using break/lever actions in games so I really hope they make it a stratagem as you described. It's definitely bad enough as a weapon that giving it to you on redeployment would not be busted, and it would be super nice to be able to just take the weapon when you want it!!
i could see if it being a stratagem having a short cooldown (compaired to the other non expendable support weapons) causing it to have a nice niche. it would be a decent choice for missions where you know you will die a lot and trying to recover your stuff every time being unrealistic, like blitz missions where you all split up
I really like the idea of a 'weak' stratagem that spawns with you as compensation! I also had the idea, not sure how hard it would to implement, for having more stratagem slots, but have stronger ones cost more slots. So instead of say 4 slots, give 6, but make Rail Guns and Shield Packs cost 2 slots instead of 1 (and maybe some even 3 slots, like the mech, if they are super powerful). That way, someone who wants to 'play tall' can take three 2-slot stratagems but misses out on flexibility, whereas someone who wants to 'play wide' can take up to 6 stratagems, none of which are necessarily amazing on their own, but the ability to have so many means you have more utility/niche potential. Considering how much the game assumes you will rely on stratagems, and how difficult it is to make them all balance against one another when they all have the same slot cost, giving more slots but making the 'best' choices multi-slot opens up a whole new dimension for balance and opportunity cost.
Funny timing for this video. I started picking up and using this shotgun for fun while helping newbies just 2 days ago, and I was a little curious about the "stats". Thanks for the intel, buddy xD
The best reason to use this is if you, like me, run some builds with no support weapon strat. I have a few where I just load up on attack strats or one with a mech and some turrets. In that case, I just use whatever weapon I find on the map and if it's a break action shotgun, than I use a break action shotgun
love seeing you get the views man. Absolutely deserved. Playing Helldivers recently and trying to find good content for it has only made me appreciate my fav DT and FGC creators more. It's a jungle of terrible research, screaming delivery, and weird chud overtones out there in the wider YT space. But your stuff? Always super well researched, full of implementable tips, and a very calm delivery with a few shots of humor. Perfect. Gotta let the people doing it right know they're appreciated.
I really appreciate your feedback. I've been watching some of the other tubers around to see what the broader community thinks and understands and it is kinda interesting. I feel grateful for cutting my teeth on darktide, it was a good space to develop a style in.
Including it as an 'always on you' stratagem would be really cute because, let's say your helldiver was once a farmer colony guy, and he somehow requested to have his daddy's shotgun with him in his hellpod.
Your proposal is neat, I would only amend it that, to keep it easter-eggy you either have to only use that support weapon for a full game or extract with it to unlock it; that would make more people experience the frontier lifestyle
When i first started playing, finding this for the first time felt like a godsend- nothing you have at the lower levels can deal with bile spewers effectively except for your precious, precious grenades, and they were therefore terrifying. Figuring out that this could double tap them made my early games a lot less scary up to getting the grenade launcher, when anything short of a charger or a hulk became child's play.
The first time I learned of the super fun mechanics of this weapon early in my helldiver career, when I had accidentally picked it up while gathering samples, and realized my mistake while cornered by bugs. We looked at each other, had a good laugh, then the bugs ravaged my ragdolling body.
I think this loadout could be decent on the current patch. The change in enemy variety puts more emphasis on needeling to thin out crowds, and the medium targets in them. If your team can cover for heavies, this allows you to focus the medium units which can pose a threat to them.
I think thats the big thing. It honestly plays very well for me when I bring reasonable stratagems and team mates to back it up. Not that bad of a gun.
I like to run this weapon with the revolver when playing with low level divers who are trying to learn the game. Due to it's low capacity and decent stopping power, I can help out without steamrolling everything. It's also fun to roleplay as a scav who dropped with nothing but a revolver xD
I would argue they should just slap it in as a primary one day. It's not gonna compete, but it's something! And gives you more ammo to start. Still waiting on them to port the M2016-Constitution from Helldivers 1. (It's just a 1903 Springfield rifle reproduction and given to super citizens who turn 16 to encourage service later in life)
Really amazing guide i was wondering whats sup with this gun i just found it once shot it thought it was cool and went back to whatever support wepon i was using at the time lol i feel like it would be so so much more fun if it replaced your primary wepon instead of support
@@Reginald-sc9tk I don't think it should get upgrades and such everybody likes a rare silly meme gun but again replacing a support wepon its just never gonna be used but as primary then it's gonna more usable idk it just seem like such a no Brainer that I feel they have a reason for not doing that
Hell yeah with including it as a default support weapon, or at least something you can equip without taking up a real strategem slot, or have it be free like the mechs were for a few days, standard issue for all Helldivers. I always pick it up on 4/5 bug eradication because it's right there, great at pot-shotting Hunters without eating your regular ammo, and a double blast to take off a Commander's head. Love the little thing, great little back-up.
You absolutely can run MG at higher level difficulties, if there a lot of chargers/bile titans - drop EAT and use rail cannon/500kg bombs. that it. Hell i even say that it makes it much easier to have 1-2 people with MGs or grenade launchers, because they would clean all the adds leaving only armored targets as easy pick offs
I certainly didn't say you couldn't run it. I think I said something like its suboptimal. Which it is. I run it because I like it and it's not like its without advantages but there are several primaries that can more or less handle the same problems.
@Reginald-sc9tk saying the MG is sub optimal is wild. Do you want 4 people with them , no. But having a teammate with the MG can make higher levels so much less stressful with the amount small enemies that spawn , especially after the patch. The MG is only suboptimal if your looking at the game from a single player view.
@@Reginald-sc9tk they absolutely not. MG have medium penetration and insane DPS, unlike breaker - it wouldnt struggle with bile spewers for example, decapitating them in like 3 hits, and unlike other weapons that do the same it have enoght sustained fire to deal with whole horde. It even might be more optimal to use MG43+EAT drop (since they oneshot chargers now, and 2 to the head kill bile titan) to quick swap instead of nerfed railguns or flamethrower that is weird to use. You can absolutely wreck bugs as 4, all runing this setup at Helldive
This take may hurt you and I understand. I think the shotgun shouldn't be a stratagem and they add only more civilian underpowered weapons as Easter eggs. I also think there should be a souped-up military version of the double barrel (quad-barrel?) which is clearly in the same family as this weapon. That, I think, should be a stratagem. As an aside a game mode where you play as civilians/line troops with underpowered versions of main weapons holding out until helldivers come to extract "priority" citizens is a fun idea.
I would use the shit out of the break action if I could take it as a primary instead of support. Same as the stalwart. Its just not good enough to replace any of the alternatives as my support weapon. I've had arguments about the stalwart but its always going to be a worse machine gun to me because of the lack of any penetration. It would be awesome as a primary to handle waves and waves of enemies, but so can the machine gun and it can kill more because of the pen.
As much as i love the idea, Stalwart would be way too broken as a primary. They’d have to give it a serious disadvantage, otherwise it’s all anyone would use.
I mean it worked as a primary in the first game. Started out inaccurate but became more accurate as you sustained fire. Not everyone used it then and you'd still have people not use it now because of it's lack of penetration.
I don't (normally) use support weapon stratagems, so I normally take what's on the ground. The break action shotgun has saved my life on so many occasions its insane. I love that gun its a solid weapon.
I actually really enjoyed running around the maps with the break action if I did find it, but farmer builds was far from thought. It's a definitely a fun build that I'm down to try out, just because the idea of a farmer being armed along helldivers sounds badass lmao
i mostly play on lv 9 now and forgot this was a thing because i haven't seen it in months, wish you could call it in now and just have it. especially now that we have stuff like the explosive sniper primary now for med targets. also for the ending talking about the gas in the build, farmers use planes to crop dust so it makes perfect sense
Well, maybe I should have been more clear that I was discussing what was optimal in relation to why this gun isn't a good choice. But yes, I've seen it too.
On the subject of armor, you could also easily justify the medium Legionnaire set. The description says that it was worn by the precursors to the Helldivers. It's totally believable that a farmer would have some old armor that's been passed down through the generations as a family heirloom.
When people say "...capacity to play the game build" i feel a little sad, because it tells me that there are people who feel, despite reality, that they cant win without meta builds. I pity the world theyve built in their heads.
Break-Action shotgun is my "secondary secondary weapon"

Just wanna say that this is actually pretty creative content thanks for making this, really breaks the monotony of all the HD2 videos I’ve been consuming so far (i have a problem)
You sir have earned yourself a subscriber
I really appreciate that! They're very fun to make, especially the little story sections.
I agree, I think on lower level games it's a pretty viable strategy.
Bro, that intro could totally fit into the tv propa- uhhh I mean, motivational recruitment ads on the destroyers.
Thats kinda what I was aiming for!
I appreciate the attention to detail from the developers to have this weapon not just exist in the game, but be fully functional with multiple reload animations and everything.
I appreciate your time & effort actually using the the thing, as well.
Thanks very much!
@reginald you got me with the break action in the stratagem purchase screen i literally logged in to make sure i wasnt crazy
I spent an inordinate amount of time on that, not even gonna lie.
The idea of a farmer wearing helldivers armor he bought online is something im here for
I really like these tutorials on the not-so-fully-understood weapons and utility of the game, like this and the ballistic shield.
Thanks very much! Obviously I'm limited by the available content in terms of weird gear but I'll do some normal stuff too with the same attention to detail.
The Devs should make melee weapons findable like the break action.
I want a sabre
That would be super fun. I keep seeing bots killed by shovels. I should be able to do that.
Swords, shovels, pitchforks, maybe even lightsabers/laser swords! That would be a ton of fun. Or you could get a Helldivers version of the automaton sword where it would be like yellow.

@@Reginald-sc9tkah, a fellow kriegsman I see
I felt like I was picking this gun up all the time during my first week with the game but rarely seem to find it now, might just be that my focus has changed and I don't spend as much time looking around though.
I would love to see more easter eggs like this for sure.
I think what the true speciality of Helldivers is its ability to get us involved into its world. I feel like I’m not just playing a game but entering into a world where I want to play the part 😂
I really like that about it.
Never mess with the farmers. They always win
Control the food supply, control the SEAF dominion

It is almost harvesting season
Me sowing shotgun shells, but reaping robocorpses
Whatever it takes to get those dirty socialist automatons out of power!
I entirely vibe eats for this build and for paring with the shotty.
Break action shotgun in first person mode just feels good to shoot with, I just wish it was a pump with like 7 shots or so
A nice tube fed with its profile would feel great.
be like that one guy from aliens and bring a family heirloom ithaca
I love using break/lever actions in games so I really hope they make it a stratagem as you described. It's definitely bad enough as a weapon that giving it to you on redeployment would not be busted, and it would be super nice to be able to just take the weapon when you want it!!
I'm glad you agree! An alternative could be making it a full stratagem with swappable ammo. Flechette for medium pen, slug for precision fire, etc.
8:05 I like how the patrol just casually spawns in like 2 metres behind thats so cool
Man I hate that pop in stuff. Feels awful.
i could see if it being a stratagem having a short cooldown (compaired to the other non expendable support weapons) causing it to have a nice niche. it would be a decent choice for missions where you know you will die a lot and trying to recover your stuff every time being unrealistic, like blitz missions where you all split up
I would love the break-action as a primary. Maybe one day...
me too. Someone here suggested the idea of swappable ammo and that sounds awesome.
@Reginald-sc9tk dragons breath for crowds and slugs for armor
Quality craftsmanship on the video.
Sturdy, robust, dependable break the enemies lines in two actions!
Quality post with excellent flavorful text.
Loving these tutorials mate keep up the good work and have a good day, god bless you brother
Thanks very much! I hope to have another one done pretty soon. Might take a detour to talk about the new weapons a bit.
Whenever I pick up a break action shotgun its mag is normally empty and it won’t reload at all anyway.
I'm not aware if there is a new bug but it usually either has 0 or 2 rounds in it and requires ammo pickups before it will reload.
Basically a points buy system, not a bad idea
@@Reginald-sc9tkYeah, it could be defined that way, sure!
Funny timing for this video. I started picking up and using this shotgun for fun while helping newbies just 2 days ago, and I was a little curious about the "stats". Thanks for the intel, buddy xD
Happy to do it! Wish I had managed to derive a real damage value.
finally ... someone covering hd2 stuff that informs with very consise organization.. great narration too
Thanks very much! I'm still polishing up my formula so if there's anything I missed you might want to know about future guns let me know.
The best reason to use this is if you, like me, run some builds with no support weapon strat. I have a few where I just load up on attack strats or one with a mech and some turrets. In that case, I just use whatever weapon I find on the map and if it's a break action shotgun, than I use a break action shotgun
And in that case, which is a good one I think, players like us will be able to have a better sense of how to use it. Which is great.
I wish it was a primary slot, not secondary - I'd run it way more often if it was.
Ditto.
Wow! What a unique and fun video. Great job dude!
Glad you had a good time! That was what I was gunning for.
I think they should stealth buff the shotgun to make it cracked and see how long it takes people to realise.
love seeing you get the views man.
Hope they turn it into a primary honestly, it'd be so fun
Agreed. Just let me play with this silly toy.
@@Reginald-sc9tk Quad-Barrel variant?
Including it as an 'always on you' stratagem would be really cute because, let's say your helldiver was once a farmer colony guy, and he somehow requested to have his daddy's shotgun with him in his hellpod.
Hopefully the double freedom from hd1 comes to hd2 it was an absolute beast close range, very simular to the break action.
That sounds awesome
All Super Earth citizens are given a bolt action rifle for a coming of age,
I can't wait for that gun to appear in the game alongside this shotgun.
Thats my ideal load out.
Would be interesting if they added a bayonet at the end of it for longer melee range
Think of the REACH
I think that the best option would be to make it one of the team stratagems similar to the resupply or how the mech worked when it was first released.
Thats a fair idea. I've seen some suggest making it a booster.
It should be something you unlock if you extract with it. A weapon to gain and collect by finding it in the world.
What a well crafted and thorough video it left no questions unanswered.
Thank you very much, I did what I could to catch everything. I'm sure I'll be mad about something I missed eventually.
4:00 Break action has the super-full choke lol
Your proposal is neat, I would only amend it that, to keep it easter-eggy you either have to only use that support weapon for a full game or extract with it to unlock it; that would make more people experience the frontier lifestyle
It is a decently fun double-barrelled shotgun, but it really should go in the primary slot
That is another way to do it
When i first started playing, finding this for the first time felt like a godsend- nothing you have at the lower levels can deal with bile spewers effectively except for your precious, precious grenades, and they were therefore terrifying. Figuring out that this could double tap them made my early games a lot less scary up to getting the grenade launcher, when anything short of a charger or a hulk became child's play.
can you do a vid on the revolver? that gun needs some love
I do love me the revolver. I'll see what I can do.
Glad to see my favorite unique weapon get the attention it deserves.
Cowboy shotgun guide released
We eating good now
Send me a lever action rifle and we're golden.
The first time I learned of the super fun mechanics of this weapon early in my helldiver career, when I had accidentally picked it up while gathering samples, and realized my mistake while cornered by bugs.
We looked at each other, had a good laugh, then the bugs ravaged my ragdolling body.
Based revolver user
Just wish that the sight was better and it used the default aiming reticle
Maybe we will see weapon customization later
Yeah, better optics on the revolver would be great. I actually have grown to rather like it into bots and bugs because it hits so hard.
Honestly more games need a way to "downgear" when playing with friends.
i think theres an achievement for beating hard with only the secondary
Just adding it into the game for 1000 requisition would make me pick it up instantly . I've used it up to level 5 and I love that thing
I would argue they should just slap it in as a primary one day. It's not gonna compete, but it's something! And gives you more ammo to start.
Still waiting on them to port the M2016-Constitution from Helldivers 1.
(It's just a 1903 Springfield rifle reproduction and given to super citizens who turn 16 to encourage service later in life)
1. Yes
2. Give me a 1903 Springfield in helldivers right now!

Really amazing guide i was wondering whats sup with this gun i just found it once shot it thought it was cool and went back to whatever support wepon i was using at the time lol i feel like it would be so so much more fun if it replaced your primary wepon instead of support
I hope it gets a few upgrades and becomes a primary.
I love running the thing, it's just amusing.
I want it to be a selectable primary.
Ditto.
One plus is that if you use that as a support weapon you can save an additional stratagem slot, which can be pretty darn useful
Definitely. While my builds didn't go that way it certainly is an option. Its also a good pairing with EATs.
Gul-durn’! This here’s a qual-a-TAY vidya ! 👨🌾
Perty good iffa do say so meself!
I's just herein makin' stuff I like is all.
You earned my subscription love the video it's just different, I didn't even notice it wasn't a normal support weapon or primary.
Thanks very much! I'm grateful that you enjoyed the video enough to subscribe.
@@Reginald-sc9tkYeah buddy. My nearly 800 kills with the MG in a single mission for my team was very suboptimal.
I was running away from a group of hunters at very low HP, out of all ammo and stamina. That gun saved my life
It’s fun to use this with a guard dog.
Thats a great idea
Flamethrowers fit perfectly! They're already farm equipment used to clear dead brush.
There’s a great Farmers vs bugs episode in love death and robots 😂
Someone else mentioned it so I went to watch it, it was great.
A wonderful log to add to the armory database, Keep Spreading Freedom™ Helldiver!
I do it for the democracy we make along the way!
Nice rootin' tootin' video there Cowboy.
Honestly it is a really entertaining way to play.
I think we could also upgrade the shotty to just be a better stratagem.
I don't (normally) use support weapon stratagems, so I normally take what's on the ground. The break action shotgun has saved my life on so many occasions its insane. I love that gun its a solid weapon.
Its just fun to use
im just sad the break action isnt a stratagem
Me too!
I actually really enjoyed running around the maps with the break action if I did find it, but farmer builds was far from thought. It's a definitely a fun build that I'm down to try out, just because the idea of a farmer being armed along helldivers sounds badass lmao
It'd be the funniest thing if this shotgun got medium armor pen. It'd be one goofy ass shotgun and probably more fun to use.
I'm down for that honestly. Why not?
i mostly play on lv 9 now and forgot this was a thing because i haven't seen it in months, wish you could call it in now and just have it. especially now that we have stuff like the explosive sniper primary now for med targets.
also for the ending talking about the gas in the build, farmers use planes to crop dust so it makes perfect sense
Break action should be an optional stratagem. Even if it is a bad gun
Please I want it so bad
Agreed! Funmaxxing.
A version that fires medium armor piercing slugs that did more damage than the slugger could be fun.
Bold of you to assume higher level lobby players don't use machine guns, they do, and they die alot lol
Definitely could
When people say "...capacity to play the game build" i feel a little sad, because it tells me that there are people who feel, despite reality, that they cant win without meta builds. I pity the world theyve built in their heads.
Funmaxxing is the meta anyway
Punisher is just so good I can't give it up, surprisingly decent at range. And I can't wait to try out the Plasma Punisher.
Plasma punisher was kinda dissapointing. I think the Blitzer has a better feel but isn't too good either.
