The Dueling Sword Problem | Darktide
I've been contemplating for a bit what should be done to help reign in the dueling sword. It was obvious it was going to be nuts on Zealot when it was announced and it is. So lets try to reign it in without killing it.

Soloing the Plague Ogryn | Darktide
มุมมอง 3.4K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
I heard Havoc mode is coming and I realized I never finished my plogryn video. So here it is, tweaked a bit for the modern era. The Plague Ogryn is one of the easiest bosses to fight once you understand its mechanics, though it does hit pretty hard if you make a mistake. I'd like to see some complexity added to its attack chain some day so you can't just stand in front of it and force out the s...

This is a very short tutorial on how to cleanly defeat the Hellbrute in Space Marine 2. I’m not sure if I’m excited about the new difficulty, called Lethal, but when I go to play it I may end up needing these skills so I’ve put them together for all of us. I have something in mind for Helldivers 2 at last and some more work to do for both Space Marine 2 and Darktide. Plus I’m putting together s...

helldivers 2 is kind of an astrumilitarum game, it even has tyranids and necrons!
Just play Helldivers 2
Already did. Not really the same.
ok idea
Yeah, but have you heared about thing called Game Concept. Concept of this game called Space Marine is to be a Space marine. You know not much about who is really guardsman and space marine
Have you heard of this cool idea, its called juxtaposition.
Google history: "Ambush tactics" "L shape ambush tactics" "Attack tactics in helldivers" (Fbi agent: "okay nvm")
In [minecraft] strikes again
Dream team is on tactical tab. You werr jusy looking at mission tab
Lifespan of 12 seconds, respawn time 10 seconds
personally i don't think we should add guardsmen into Space Marine 2, this game is about the power fantasy of ripping through filthy xenos rather than overcoming impossible odds as a unit (if that makes sense)
I understand your position but consider the alternative. You play a guardsman, the game is actually hard. You die a lot. Then you play a space marine and experience the power fantasy. Now you have context.
Everyone crying about this needs lives. 😂 seriously. So tired of the nerf this nerf that community then the devs do it then the game just gets less fun then people cry that we dont have new content because they are fixing the game and trying to balance stuff. Every class has that 1 weapon that demolishes stuff depending on what you stack up with it. The game needs new missions and content period. Fathshark has been doing nothing but balancing and fixing stuff since the release of the game. Take a break.
Yea, no. Nerfing broken things is a good thing. There's not much room to buff right now when the players are generally overpowered as it is. There's only a handful of weapons that need buffs. Balance is good for games. Buff everything and you may as well stop playing because there's nothing to challenge you.
@Reginald-sc9tk The players are not overpowered.. I swear people have been saying that since the game launched and they fixed it. If you have a meta build like every game has then thats what happens. The same issue is in call of duty too. A new gun drops, everyone uses, it people complain, then it gets a nerf until the next meta build is found.. and rinse, wash, repeat. Sweat lords cry about the game being to easy while playing nothing but Auric Maelstroms with meta builds. lol go outside. I remember when the ridiculous RNG came out with an update and the enemies were buffed. The game was pretty much unplayable then they fixed it. The game came a looong way. They need to quit listening to people like you for sure. Also they are coming with a harder difficulty in the next update, I'm sure you'll cry your diaper off about that being to easy too or be one of those that cry that your team sucks when you go down because they aren't carrying meta weapons and your ego can't handle it and you just leave the game early on. 😂
@@Obscure_1992 listening to you project is pretty exhausting honestly. Balance is not a dirty word in a game designed around its challenge as a source of enjoyment. But you're so ignorant you think a miniscule nerf to carapace damage and movement speed, leaving it still in the position of one of the best weapons in the game, is some how an unhinged take. This is my hobby, I don't need to go outside because I've touched enough grass today thank you very much. It was scratchy. Auric Maelstrom can be beaten right now with grey weapons and level 1 characters. Asking for balance is not asking to dumpster a weapon. Get it together.
@@Reginald-sc9tk Literally no projection.. Just an opposing opinion which somehow exhaust you lol but sure agree to disagree. I just want the game to stay fun and not feel like were hitting the enemies with foam weapons is my point. Next time you go outside to touch grass be sure to talk to other people you'll find that at times they do have opposing opinions.
@@Obscure_1992 Perhaps if you didn't start your conversation by insulting everyone with a different opinion to you we could have had a civil discussion, like I did with most other people here. And I quote "Everyone crying about this needs lives" Every single person is allowed their opinion in my comments and I engage with as many people as I can manage. But you set the tone for this conversation.
Damage vs speed/recoil is like this, revolver is quickest, bolt pistol is middle, and spearhead bolter is she shootiest
just play warframe
I have like 1500 hours. I don't really need more lol
Shhhhhhh don't let FatShark know we don't want them to ruin a good thing or better yet buff everything else
Seriously do not buff everything else. Might as well just play sedition at that point.
Just got grenade sniped earlier.
I already have perk ideas like a buff to your guardsmen squads dmg or the ability to perform executions on minoris enemies maybe you ability could be a battle cry that causes your guardsmen to charge forward do some decent dmg to a horde then inevitably die out then the cooldown starts once your guardsmen are refreshed. and cosmetics could be going from a guardsman to a colonel or maybe even a commissar. While I do like the idea of being a guardsmen I think the player should at least be the last guardsman to fall and have a small chance to live through it all. you should definitely be able to have your guardsmen target specific enemies and position them around either as a group or individuals. I'm imagining having 2 players as guardsmen (meaning 10 guardsmen total) and one as a space marine (probably a bulwark) then having the space marine lure enemies into a chokepoint for the guardsmen to lay down fire and get as many as possible into an execute state. then once the guardsmen run out of ammo they suicide charge into the horde to clean up and make space for more guardsmen in the squad.
great video, i would like to ask for the background music though, if anyone knows?
Its (dun dun dun) AI generated slop from Soundraw
@@Reginald-sc9tk alright, thank you for the answer! good content man, keep at it.
I'm looking forward to the melee weapons in this game. Space Marine 2 I LOVE the melee stuff! Bulwark and assault are super fun!
You a PS5 player? I'll have some how to play guides that won't waste your time ready for launch .
@@Reginald-sc9tk yessir, I have my pre order paid for already.. I just want to know a few basics, like strongest class, best beginner builds etc. I'll look forward to it brudda! Gave u a sub!
@@EKk8819 Everyone has their own belief on strongest class and are vehement about it. I'm going to instead recommend playing zealot because its fun and will teach you the melee mechanics, which are critical to being good at the game on any other class. Ogryn is also a good choice since its more of a melee bruiser class and comes with some of the most unique gameplay in any genre i've seen.
If you don’t take the insta kill right away someone else will
Maybe, I never have that problem honestly.
it could literaly just be that you enter as a guardsman in a random game of somebody else... you're still realy weak like they are, and you get to acctuly enter in someone else game and support them in there, you are put into a random guardsman and you can acctuly go about helping the 3 players in their game, they wouldnt even know you're a player
Similar to the resident evil 6 feature where you could be one of the zombies
That's a lot of setup to 1-shot a crusher. I have a better build though. KRAK OUT
Yea. For sure.
Ok so you need to keep this thing at a distance until it does the psi wave thing where you have to dodge it to not die, then you close into melee and beat it’s ass until it tries to get up. That’s when you back off and let it waste it’s energy again.
Yes
"being a darktide goblin forever"......................well, I AM! It's awesome!
Fairly pretty....empty environments. When you actually fight, I don't think I saw more than few enemies at the time. The Tide player in me just thinks "Where enemies?"
Yea. The game has soul but no body.
A true man’s purpose.
Never nerf the dueling sword, because then people will realize how broken the catachan devil's claw parry is
Too true. My favorite comment on this video said it needed buffs lmao.
DARKTIDE GOBLIN!
Tragically i cannot escape
@@Reginald-sc9tk Same!
asking for a nerf to a class node like enduring faith also nerfs every other weapon in the hands of someone using that node
Yea i understand that. It still needs nerfing. It will impact the DS and Knife the most and after that other crit weapons with slower attack speeds.
Reggie I was going to as your fan I'd wonder if you could try out mechwarriors 5 mercenaries and do a review cuz starship troopers, helldivers and space marines 2/darktide are all cool n all but battle tech would be perfect seeing battle the odds against factions well I hope you consider it or else I'll pull a pipe, nitrate n fuse like furries do thank you (joking don't report)
Its on my list but no promises as to when i can get to it.
@@Reginald-sc9tk I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Mechwarrior franchise, but if you do start playing MW5 and feel like it's too easy then hit up the mods on the workshop. There are lots of mods that add lore accurate equipment and some that completely overhaul the AI and make it way more of a rewarding challenge. The quality of life mods are definitely a must have too. Love all of your Darktide content, my guy
@@TheIcarusFalls Thanks much! I love the battle tech franchise in general, just been in busier than I can contend with tbh.
I think a good fix would be to just make it bad at dealing with hordes. Like, really bad, even.
It still has no business outkiting the entire game. This isn't supposed to be a speedrunning championship type game.
@@Reginald-sc9tk I don't see what's wrong with some weapons being able to kite like that as long as they pay for it in other areas. It's not like you can kite indefinitely, you eventually have to complete objectives which require you to stay in the same area.
@@kronosDking You basically can kite indefinitely. Run a circuit and the enemy can't catch up to you before you do an objective. It breaks the game on a fundamental level.
Executioner's stance has kind of fallen off hasn't it?
It has really poor toughness and melee performance. I have a build for it but it really just keels over any time something bad happens.
eheheh.... I mean... yesn't? I feel it's very good at making mid tier weapons punch above it's weight, or for high dps automatic weapon builds and that's about it. Gives some less painful breakpoints on the vraks headhunter, and I enjoy it with the recon lasgun. it's certainly the weakest of the free but I still feel it's good if you don't need the defence the other two give.
@@bradley6471 You need the defense the other two give on anything in Auric+ otherwise your game is going to be a lot harder for no value.
A side comment: Really impressed that you're still engaging on this video with the people commenting. Earned a sub for not just abandoning the convo after posting, or after the first month.
Hey thanks! I try to respond to or at least read every comment. I'm not so big that I can't muster it given time.
I honestly don't mind where the Dueling Sword stands at the moment. I used it too when I started really getting into the game to just get through some of the more difficult mission and learn enemy patterns and stuff. But overall it's also fairly boring to use. Other weapons provide so much more utility or damage. Like kill a daemon host with 3 head bonks of the Thunderhammer, or the pure speed the knife provides when you're a squishy little Psyker and need to haul your ass to safety, the pure slaughter of the heavy oggy pickaxe. Sure the sword lets you turn your brain off and spam dodge and left click, but it's TTK is slow, boring and gets outpaced by many other things once you start getting good at the game.
So here's the thing. Per my data the DS4 actually is ranking up there with the ogryn pickaxe and thunder hammer for elite killing but also has the exact same mobility as the knife.
@@Reginald-sc9tk lul Well maybe I'm just scared of what a nerf to this will mean for public lobbies. On weekends it already feels like playing solo with 3 spectators half the time. Gonna lug around even more dead weights on Auric Damnation after.
Maybe it was nerfed at some point, but the people saying run and gun is a must have on this thing have to be under placebo and don't really test things objectively.. 10% spread is hardly noticeable and not enough on its own to actually make it reliable to snipe man sized specials and kill. It gets a little tighter while sprinting but still not by enough to matter, and grows again while sliding. It's nowhere near as good as run and gun on the ogryn rumbler which gets a substantial 30% for some reason. If you really want to snipe things with the double barrel and use it as a primary rather than as a backup room clearer used only with weapon specialist crits, executioner stance alone will lead to a much more noticeable choke on the spread and further kills due to the damage, or dance of death on zealot with a huge 75%. Both barrels is also just the better non damage blessing since you get much better uptime with it where you need it, using both barrels to make sure everything in too close for comfort is either dead or knocked down.
Evrybody talking about dueling sword, but how about psyker meta uncany +purgatuss literaly deletes evrything crusher mauler packs in 1 combo how is nobody saying nothing about that? Thats like next level broken, or ball spam psykers running with macros having 2x3x more dps than players without macros literaly wiping evrything. Its better new players use dueling sword than, perma smite, or that broken ball spam with macros.
nerf current duelling sword then give psyker force duelling sword it'd be funny or just give psyker the force greatsword so you can do a psyker melee build tbh
Your wish was fatsharks command
@Reginald-sc9tk THE FORCE GREATSWORD IS REAAAAAL!!!!
Thank you for this guide. I slept on the chaxe for a long time because I always heard it was trash (maybe it used to be). Now the mk.4 is my current favorite Zealot weapon. It's just a lot of fun. <3
It was trash long ago, but its great now!
Just a quick observation about the bolt pistol: try Run 'n' Gun instead of Surgical for more reliable aim. The sprinting part of the blessing is a minor benefit, but it also has "30% reduced weapon spread at all times." Puncture and Run 'n' Gun are my go-to blessings for this weapon.
Yea, I learned later it was at all times but I still find the accuracy not worth the loss of damage after the latest round of buffs to accuracy.
NERF SMITE, SMITE IS BIGGEST PROBLEM IN THIS GAME.
I too am part of the smite haters club.
@Reginald-sc9tk in this state it is right now it breaks the game totaly and new players with no basic skills go to auric and ruin it for others by perma smiting 24/7 evrything :/
why on earth would you take Kraks in this build
Pathing. Fun. Who cares plasma is also incredible at horde clear.
I don't think this mindset is all that helpful -- it's a balancing mindset that prioritizes the experience of players doing aurics/duos, which is a minority of the playerbase. When devs try to balance the experience of the top echelon of players, the game as a whole suffers, I don't feel the need to bring up examples because I'm sure everyone has names that jump to mind immediately. Also, psyker isn't enabled by the dueling sword. They can still easily outdps any other class with just staffs, but thinking that's a problem is narrowmindedly equating dps = good. Finally, there's this adversarial "heh look how mad I made *those* people" stance that immediately shuts down any chance to have a real conversation. The comments end up turning into a curated echo chamber. Players end up snubbing other players simply for equipping a weapon. I've started getting my auric achievements recently, and I find it strange that I've started running into this phrase "playing X weapon/setup removes fun for other players." In my whole time playing this game, I've never felt a negative emotion from watching another player on my team excel. I'm usually the one tagging and shooting specials, and when someone else does in those rare runs I think "oh nice, someone else is a team player!"
I really think what it comes down to is the need for a modded realm. Because I suspect that you're right, it's a minority of the playerbase that's unhappy. I think that the majority are either lower-skill players who struggle with the game, and for whom calls for nerfs feel out of touch, or higher-skill players who just enjoy mindlessly facerolling with an overtuned meta. The players who are both good and actively seek out challenge are probably a pretty small minority. If this is the case, then even if Fatshark were competent at balance (they're not) it wouldn't make financial sense to cater to the masochists. This wasn't a problem in VT2, because the masochists got their own modded realm where they could fix the game's imbalances and enjoy sticking each other with hot needles. But off the back of this Fatshark got a bunch of happy veterans who were invested in the game's success; the community itself even organized a long-standing tournament series based around 4-stack play that's still going! Right now, Darktide pubs (not even organized teams) are just players fighting over scraps. Watching someone excel means watching them kill 80%+ of the enemies singlehandedly. What are the other three players supposed to do then?
Spearhead Boltgun is better than Bolt Pistol?
Its a matter of preference and utility
I don't get the complaints in the comments. The proposed changes would still leave the dueling sword and knife the best melee weapons in the game. I also don't understand those that are saying to buff everything else. The game is already considered easy. Why would you buff everything when the consensus is that the game needs more challenge?
I'm glad you see my point. These are like the lightest nerfs I can imagine lol.
no leave it alone. not everyone can play god mode like you. it makes the game fun and playable esp for psykers and if the team isn't paying attention or just runs around, need it to get out of tight spots when a horde attacks from behind. zealots are overpowered period. nerf zealots instead their are ridiculously op and should not have gotten a good sword like that b/c they didn't need it.
It was already OP on psyker. It needed nerfing and still does. Crutching on a weapon prevents people from learning to play which limits them. Literally all the weapons are viable.
@@Reginald-sc9tk Good points. You're right playing god-mode or not isn't really the issue, just a short-hand way of saying it. The real problem I'm having with psyker is hard to say in just a few words and sorry this got long.... It is just the inability to keep up with the team when they move away from a battle quickly. It seems lately Psyker can't even outrun the inevitable random trash troop that pops up out of nowhere and pursues. It's not much of a problem when I'm playing zealot pushing the front line forward. When the trash troops can just easily catch the squishy psyker in an all-out sprint, while watching teammates seemingly skate away - something seems messed up.... and the dueling sword until recently seems to be the only weapon that gave the psyker a chance in this situation. Maybe it's just me, idk. So now lately I've noticed that even with dueling sword, psyker's ability to move quickly seems nerfed. I've got too many hours in this game than I care to admit and am usually the last one standing when a run goes bad and sometimes pull off a major clutch - so I'm not a bad player or anything. It's just that there is often sessions that it's like running through mud and literally no time delay between swipe sound and getting hit, and these outnumber the times sessions where I seems to be able to skate around and get lots of time between the swipe sound and actually getting hit. Maybe its a netcode thing, or my ISP, idk. But it's frustrating and if they nerf the sword, then I guess kind of limited for options now. So ya, I'm gonna object to nerfing the sword for my own self interest I guess. It can also be good to recognize not everybody experiences the same things for valid reasons that might not be apparent. And it might also be ok to have something not optimized if it allows some people to enjoy something a bit. I don't get why so many people are on about this sword right now, unless the dueling sword is making the game horrible for everyone. If the sword is responsible for most players having a bad time, then let me know how that could be and I'll agree the sword should be nerfed. It's not like there's a competition or anything, it's a team game. The definition of a good team is if teammates win, then the team wins. If a teammate fails, then the team fails.
@@NiWhomPing So three pieces to your post: 1. Getting hit while moving. That is by design. You're not supposed to be able to outrun the enemy via sprint, you're supposed to use a combination of resources including dodge and push to make space so that you can then run. Most weapons can do this. The dueling sword allows you to get away with non-standard play. I proposed an (extremely minor) nerf to the movement speed to help mitigate the speedrunning and game-breaking aspects while allowing significantly better than normal kiting. 2. This is partially netcode and partially an issue with Bruisers, most likely. Bruisers are doing sorta semi-undodgable running attacks right now. Its a bug. 3. I am very well aware of the inclinations of more casual players and I support them and advocate for them. Almost all my guides and tutorials are designed to furnish a more casual player with the tools required to FUNMAXX. However winning the game is not the true goal in tide. Fun is. But you cannot have fun in a game where the risk of loss is too heavily minimized by things that are overpowered and break core mechanics. Smite is a perfect example of this so I'll use it to explain. Smite will definitely help me win more games. But I don't care if I win anymore, because I've won like 90000 times. What I care about is an interesting challenge, those fingernail biting moments where i'm pushed to the limit. I'd rather lose in a satisfying way than win every game. The fun and replayability for this game is its challenge, not having a high win rate. That's why its so critical to balance weapons so that everyone can take the things they like to play with, and enjoy them, without ruining the experience for themselves or for other people. When someone plays smite all the enemies turn off. Now i'm not having any fun because I came here for a challenge. Instead I got a shooting range. I won, but the journey was what I was here for. On this channel you never have to apologize for a long post. Boldly state your opinion and we'll talk. If I didn't want to talk to people I wouldn't do it.
Everyone else gets just ONE psyker weapon and it's instantly meta, that's just how superior psykers are
Block - is for Challenge, not for casual playing
What stats should be the DUMP stat for your weapons?
Mobility at 60, almost always. But sometimes defense.
@Reginald-sc9tk so for Crucis, have my defence at 60
I really love the DS, but I feel like while movement and penetration nerfs are good, I think it really needs to keep its good single target specialization, but needs some nerfs to horde clear, it really overperforms in that role, and I feel like having to find some way to compensate for cc in your build to make up for lack of cc with your melee would round it out. Also a rapier is way cooler on the magic weirdo class than any other so I say keep it to Psyker.
nah bro don't reduce the stabby stabby I would rather take a flat 50% damage decrease on lights attacks and leave heavy attacks as they are
They're very much unhinged balance wise and lorewise.
I’d say buff other things in a way that raises their skill ceiling then make havoc actually difficult. The possibility of overtuning the DS so that it’s not fun for anybody anymore is way too probable. That or buff everything else so that it raises their skill ceiling and nerf the DS so its skill ceiling is lower.
I dont know what you're trying to say here. You can't buff a weapon to raise its skill ceiling. You can rework a weapon. The DS has no skill cieling. Its dead easy to use and the best weapon in the game.
@@Reginald-sc9tk Fatshark can certainly buff things to raise it's skill ceiling. i.e. they could make the devil claw's parry more rewarding, make push stabs more rewarding, remove timed block stagger on certain weapons, adjust the attack angles with certain weapons like the other DS mks etc. Right now, I'd say the DS4 has a very low skill floor and very high skill ceiling. It's a really great weapon, not because it's OP but because everything else pales in comparison. For the average player, the only weapons viable for damnation are the DS and the combat knife because everything else forces them to struggle more than they are able to learn. Edit: Sorry for the text wall
@@DecafSaxGuy DClaw parries are already rewarding as they deal high damage and work as a defensive tool allowing to ignore almost any damage taken at the cost of stamina. Push stabs have Strikedown profile, deal decent damage while allowing to continue the combo with a heavy sweep for example like on DClaw 7. Don't know what you mean as a timed block stagger if it's a block break which staggers you if you try to block an attack out of stamina then it happens with all weapons. DS4 has no skill ceiling, it's one of the simplest weapons - lights and push attacks for horde clear, heavies for single target, nothing complicated. It's OP for having perfect mobility, busted finesse modifier and the best blessings in the game like Uncanny Strike, Precognition, Riposte. And even for an average player all weapons are viable on Damnation with the exception of maybe DClaw 1 and Power Maul which are really underperforming, otherwise these players are below average and shouldn't be on Damnation in the first place. And you basically contradict yourself wanting to somehow raise skill ceiling but at the same time saying that people are struggling to learn so what's the point of that skill ceiling buff.
