  • A tutorial on setting up a wireless network using a Linksys wireless router in Packet Tracer. How to set up a wireless network for the Cisco CCNA.
In part 1, I focus on the network topology, connecting to Linksys wireless router with the default settings and a wireless client. I also demonstrate connecting to the web management interface.

Maybe the wireless device is blocking icmp? Maybe the default is to block.. since ICMP can be used for DoS attacks...

Yeah I think the Linksys wireless device is simply blocking pings to the WAN interface by default. Requests initiated from the outside are blocked by default, which is what it should do since it is a basic level firewall device for its LAN users

Hey dan, I was able to get pings and telnet to work from the wireless client to the main router to work. The wireless device does not block automatically as suggested earlier. Since I am limited to the amount of characters on this comment for the detailed explanation so I will create a video response showing you how I was able to do this, so that it answers everyone's questions as to why it doesn't work.

I followed your video to duplicate the configuration and found the wireless host can ping the two desktop hosts but not from the two desktops to the the wireless host. Do you have any suggestions about that as I watched all the three videos in this series and you didn't test the connection in the end of the video? Thanks,

Dan, I'm sorry, I didn't see what ip address you gave the cloud side of the router.( I am stopping mid-way of video, but I thought that you would have mentioned it earlier, being that you lights on router and cloud are green... Or does it make a difference what IP I put in?

Great tutorial. But... I am trying to mimick (recreate) our existing topology in Cisco Packet Tracer. Here's the issue I'm running into. An ipconfig /all shows both my wireless adapter and wired adapter as both being on the same subnet. So regardless of which method I choose to connect to the network I will grab an I.P. in the same range on the same subnet.

What are the ip addresses of the pc's and what default gateway do they have. As well as what router protocol are you using and what networks are in its routing table?

just one question, when I ping from the Linksys router to the 192.168.1.1 router it's successful, but if I do other way around, that's from the 192.168.1.1 router to the Linksys it's says that it's failed i don't get that?

I'm trying to find a solution, but i think it's a bag from the Packet Tracer but I'm not really sure, maybe Dan will see this and reply to us?

(ie: 192.168.5.37 for wired and 192.168.5.125 for wireless).
When I attempt to recreate this in PT I get errors that IP's overlap, and they do. But I don't know how they were able to set it up to begin with. I can create a new subnet just fine in PT with the wirless router and have it talk with the wired lan users but they are on 2 seperate networks. I suppose for ACl's they decided it was easiest and made most sense to have all users in this building on the same network.

When I connect the Link sys router with a cross cable it dosen't work but no in the case of straight through. Which makes sense since these two devices are unlike

I'm trying to set up Wi-Fi for my capstone project in packet tracer. I have to have a secure Wifi connection and only way to have Wifi is to have the linksys that i can see in my packet tracer. I cannot change the LAN in it to a class B network from the Class C?
