Thanks for a really interesting and well-made film about Saab and Le Mans. When Quentin Spurring writes about the race, he has used the title SAAB's Moral Victory. As far as I know, the only Swedish car brand that has driven at Le Mans. Well, Koenigsegg tried CCGT but managed to be stopped when the FIA stopped the series. I myself have had a 96 with a racing crankshaft and three separate ignition coils. As we say in Sweden: went like a shot in the night.
AWSOME! i am building a saab 96 1963 bullnose with a built engine and a 4speed trans. hope to make some good power and i have some plans for better handeling like a stiffer rolbar and progresive springs
Did I hear that Stirling Moss considered the (slow?) 750cc Class "dangerous"? That'd be kinda ironic considering his sister, Pat Moss drove for Saab and was quite successful. Also, she married Erik Carlsson, the very well known Saab driver who captured the Monte Carlo trophy in 1964 in a Saab 96.
Hi Pepin, fascinating story - I'm a real SAAB fan - had 7 so far. I started in 1972 with a 1963 SAAB 96, 2 stroke, 3 cylinder, with 841cc engine. It was fantastic and nwent like a rocket. ALWAYS plenty of spare clean spark plugs in the boot, as they would clog up pretty easily ! I wish you would just rebuild yours into an everyday car though - I'm not into rallying and it seems such a shame for such a rare car to be ruined - in my opinion ! Good luck - take care 🙂. Michael in England.
Very good video, Pepijn! Learning something new about old cars is always welcome. Cool historical footage and sound! What about your SAABs? Everything OK? Bye - Martin

I never knew Saab raced at Le Mans! Thanks for this!
I'll never forget the sound of this at Classic Le Mans! Nice choice.

Bedankt! Interessant en uniek beeldmateriaal.
dankjewel :)
Thanks. Great video.
As they used to say at SAAB:
3-cylinder engine with overhead fanshaft.
Thanks. Hopefully you will do a video about rallying Saabs too. I would like to see it.
Wow! SO MUCH noise from a small powerplant making relatively modest hp. Driving these in long stint must have been stressful on the ears and nerves.
Yes probably had ringing ears after 24h
