It's a shame I discovered this artist when he died. There were two songs I used to hear as a young person and never knew he was the singer, his signature song, and 'The Real Thing'.
He has been Ill recently (since January of 2017, bad reaction to an antibiotic resulting in bilateral Achilles’ tendon ruptures and developed peripheral neuropathy), he continued to perform up until about 2020 I believe. He pops up on his Twitter account every once in a while though

RIP i wanted to see him sing the song live from then, back in his hat day, crisp of his vocals. He had a distinctive flair.
This is the best I've heard him sing what you won't do live!
oh yes- the note he hits on the last “only” is magnificent; I have never heard him do that on any other version.
