Super cool and simple truck. I've been hunting for the same thing. She'll still be running when the junk that's 45 years newer is parked with problems Einstein couldn't figure out.
I would not switch that to Hendrickson walking beam with rubber block suspension. I have it on my 94 western star and apart from being extra stable for spreading gravel and I guess low maintanace, its crap compared to air bag. Rough riding and if your going over ungerlating ground empty there isn't enough suspension movement in the wheels meaning your drive wheel can sometimes be up off the ground or not pressing down hard enough to get traction, There isn't enough movement in suspension because basicly there is no suspension it just sits in blocks. I've driven three rubber block suspension types on trucks and driven plenty with spring ride and air bags. Id go for the air bags or springs any day. Mind you in saying that if your only really working around in flat land areas its not bad but why go to the expense in changing out what is a superior suspension that you already have....

Id say the biggest thing on older trucks as long as it ain't rusty are the hoses. They get dry rotted and that'll be the main cause of problems. I changed all my air lines that poly line is super cheap and I changed all my coolant hoses and rubber air lines. Good to go while those new trucks are in the shop for emissions haha
i could tell that it was a california truck was it a truck and transfer unit? and in southern california in the 90s it was a truck show every day but thanks to the communist smog laws in california small trucking outfits are dying i miss seeing these well taken care of petes and kenworths running in cali nothing but piss trucks now
