Prashant Kishor-Impossible to Tell What Will Happen in UP; No Change in My Relationship with Mamata

- In a 70-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Prashant Kishor also spoke about his relationship with Mamata Banerjee and said there was “absolutely” no change in that relationship. He said he laughed at the speculation about his alleged differences or a rift with her. These are stories spread by journalists seeking headlines, he said.
When questioned about a report, put out by ABP Television, that his dinner meeting with Nitish Kumar on Saturday was part of a strategy to create support from different opposition parties for Nitish Kumar as president in the forthcoming elections later this year, Prashant Kishor said “there is not an iota of truth” in this. He said he is not the “sarpanch” of this country. He said his meeting with Nitish was simply “social shishtachar”.

Remember his interview during the Bengal elections..he was so sure about TMC making a clean sweep..he was prepared to just give up what he was doing..he looked that confident..BJP mocked Mamta of being left alone when all her so called trusted right hand and left hand abandoned her to join the BJP ..it became a prestige issue for Mamta..PK was so sure about TMC winning with a thumping majority...

Even BJP knew it won't win. It was just posturing and making a signal to voters that we are a force to reckon with. BJP is now the primary opposition in Bengal where ideologically it was always resisted. It increased its tally for 2-3 seats to more than 70 now. So, now it's TMC vs BJP. If there is an anti-incumbency factor ever and eventually there will be (maybe 5 or 10 years from now), BJP will increase its tally. Bengal is a place where the Left was in power for more than 30 years, TMC is already there for more than 10 years now, it certainly is slow in changing the political establishment.

Huge respect to Mr Kishor but this passive aggressiveness was not required. Karan was asking objective questions but clearly, someone is frustrated. Lastly, people can judge or make fun of Karan Thapar but he is indeed one of the best journalists in our country.

It is a great interview. Karan Thapar asked relevant questions and Prashant Kishor reacted very naturally. He got irritated, but that is a normal reaction. At least he didn't run away like coward Modi or stop the interview like Jayalalitha.
I admire these two men, with that as context, this was neither man's finest hour.

This guy actually gives a headache to his listener. He has this air of self-righteousness that can turn off any leader working with him after the initial honeymoon ends. This is the quality that's most responsible for failure of marriages due to lack of compatibility. PK is exhibiting the same character.

I don't know why people are nervous when they sit with Karan Thapar. Mr. Kishore is so bold and chanukia of modern election is not open as he was before. His interview looks he don't want slip his tongue and started drinking water.

Love the way Karanji looks straight into the eye of his guest and just shoot pointed questions in the most vital areas. PKji was unsettled and disoriented within 10 min of the interview.

Love and respect for pk is increasing in my mind....with every public interaction I see.
Karan Thapar’s craft as an interviewer is of an international standard, at least as good as Stephen Sackur of the BBC. He is forcing Kishore to reveal things, even if only through tone and gesture. What in Panjabi we call ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ or _ishaaraa_ .
Never in my life I imagined Karan Thapar would get flustered and jumble up timeline of events repeatedly to stand by his bad questions .

In the initial part, Karan went strong after PK, but towards the end, PK came out a winner. He is right when he does not reply some of the questions like about Rahul Gandhi or Modi or his relationship with leaders.
Karan gave example of demonatization and applied the 3 qualities of the leader courage, character and intelligence and then ask question to PK and PK had to explain that he had said that in a different context Karan appeared foolish trying to get PK there.
PK is very clear that the idea and the space Congress represnts can not be taken away. In that sense it will never die...the decline of congress after 1985 is deep rooted structural problem causing poor functionality and their communication with masses. PK brings in his original thinking which makes listening to him such a pleasure.
What PK is saying about Congress party has been said umpteen times in so many books and articles, by both protagonists and antagonists alike many times over before. So there is no earth shattering revealation here. Next to ideology the hardest slog is for any political party is how to translate it to people's acceptance. So what is new and profound about it?
It appears that prediction of polling outcome is a rocket science.

I am sick and tired of all the discussions around this obsession of how to defeat the BJP. Media should ask any political commentator what kind of alternatives can opposition parties offer exactly. How opposition will solve our problems of unemployment, inflation, corruption, farmers issues, china’s agression etc. Trying to find credible answers to some of these questions will automatically brighten Opposition’s chances. Just being obsessed about defeating the BJP 24x7 will not.

I have listened to the whole interview. Karan Thappar is a very good interviewer and asked probing questions without any hints of agreeing with the interviewee. However Prashat kishore was very defensive at times. I wonder why he now wants to join parties which are in opposition to the bjp. First he helped bjp to win in 2014, did he not have a clue that they were fighting on the hindutva agenda or did he actually initiate it. He released a frankenstein in the nation who is bent on dividing and destroying the peace of india. Sadly he cant do anything now and keeps going to other parties. He should go back to bjp and see his frankenstein's actions through to the end. I used to give him importance but not now he together with advani brought a person who had no human feelings and instead of courage the leader is proving to be a coward when challenged. Also he did not have to stay at amrinder singh's house, something that is called a hotel if he is doing business. I doubt his connections with mamta, amrinder or nitesh kumar. Still he could be honest and so have to give him benefit of the doubt.
Karan thappar should have interviewed modi instead of the ANI lady who accepted all his replies with such admiration as if god is speaking, a very poor interview it was.

@@samyvik2888 Well having been accustomed Thapar’s prickly interviewing demeanour over the years. This interview felt like a flea bite. But credit where it’s due to Thapar. His unique interviewing style gets the perspective of the interviewee across to the audiences crisply with less equivocation.

I have been watching KT's interview for quite a long now and started with an assumption that he is seasoned journalist so he must be compliant of basic fundamental requirement of journalism to look and analysis anything , everything with a neutral perspective but I am afraid often see him questioning and moulding his conversations towards his own personal prejudice and try to get elicit what he wants to listen or in other way wants to stamped his own believes are correct that's where you are not doing journalism.
On the other hand pK has in-depth understanding if how people make their choices and all his responses are supported with strong data analysis.
Honestly PK has every right to get angry. He has repeatedly refused to take any credit for anybody's success. But media/masses would still give him that credit and will also blame him for taking credit as and when it suits them 😂
He has refused to take credit? What?! He was kicked out of Modi team in 2014 for trying to take substantial credit for Modi's victory. Same thing is now happening with TMC victory. Just count the number of interviews he has been giving since TMC victory. Every two weeks, he sits for an interview. It is because he wants to be interviewed to remain in limelight, no one is forcing him.

My take on 2012 and 2014 elections exhibiting different trends.. the momentum had shifted in 2014 towards the BJP and this trend sustained in the subsequent elections. What happens in the current election therefore, will exhibit the current mood of the electorate. Consequently, the successful party will certainly exhibit a 'tail wind' in its favor.
Prashant kishore was associated with B.J.P..So by his argument he continues to be a friend of B.J.P. How he justifies working against the friend & friendship.No doubt he is the one who made politics a business product to market for his livelihood.He does'nt appear to rank Nation's pride above his selfish motives.

They all had aome fault or the other including nehru, patel etc. Patel was a right leaning hindu who tried to maintain a balance within the party probably due to fellow gujarati gandhi. Karan is next level interviewer. India's version of the hard talk. Hope India had few more interviewers like him. Aint it sad that a journalist like him can't get a job in national television? It tells a lot about the state of journalism in India.
He has had his days. He was running a prime time NDTV back then. He is now what, seventy plus already? Freelancing suits him more now. That's why these individual segments, that too not so often.
After the West Bengal elections, Prashant Kishor had declared that he is no more active in the election related job. But even than reputed journalists like Karan Thapar are calling him for interview about his reaction about the election scene. And it is surprising that Prasant Kishor agrees to give interview during election time even though he knows that he is not in a position to inform the the public. It appears that he just want to remain in lime light.

This isn't the karan we know. He was so much laid back today unlike every other time when we see him on the edge of his seat. No follow-ups, no interruptions, such a languishing interview. And Prashant, what caught him up? It's not really the questions, he wasn't annoyed, the questions weren't really grilling, he just seemed disinterested somewhat.
2:32 PK here says it is speculation to claim to know in advance what the result of an election will be but now is sure that BJP will win 303 seats ore more in 2024.
PK is giving all evasive answers, either he has lost touch with ground or just avoiding tricky questions..

@@shaik43 this is a very soft answer for Owaisi the supporter of CAA protests so that islamists of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh r given immediate citizenship. it was to counter the narrative that the religiously persecuted minorities- hindus, sikhs, christians r fleeing these islamic countries and seeking refuge in India. this led to violence which was preplanned in the Shaheen Bagh camp.
