16:22 The position wasn't repeated. Hari resigned so Gukesh pulled his king in order to place it in the centre of the board. That was perhaps Registered as a move
I find these French clashes very interesting every time, especially with this particular clash of styles. Playing against the French, you often really want to find ways to just complicate matters and push forward. But on the other hand, those are also the kinds of positions where the French can develop into a venomous system to go up against - a good strategical player like Pentala would no doubt be extremely well prepared in that regard.
Darn. It almost looks like Gukesh is following Tal's teachings in mathematics! It seems the path is still too narrow for two to pass through, even in the era of computer assisted preparation. Thanks for your videos!
Well, if you're the better player, the main goal of your preparation should be to take your opponent out of preparation and beat them fair and square tactically
Tactics in this game are beyond this duffer's comprehension, let alone ability to replicate. As GM King noted in an earlier round, it's not just opening preparation which separates GMs from everybody else, it's also phenomenal calculating ability (not to mention visualization powers for both). Feels a bit like standing at a base camp for Everest just to reach 2000 Elo, staring at towering peaks above. Awesome.
Since the French was played in the last two world championships it would be interesting to see it become (really) popular at the highest levels! (Of course, Harikrishna has played it for a while already.)
You can tell the Gukesh era has begun. Dynamism is in the air again. No longer will players have to worry about getting into a dry strategic battle against a Carlsen.
I wonder if Hari had any reservations playing Gukesh, since it would have been big news in India if he handed the World Champion his first loss as WC… 🤷🏻♂️🙏
Lol, it wouldn't have been a big news at all. Hari beat arjun in this same tournament in the 1st game when arjun was 2800. Hari is a legend of Indian Chess. And no player has any reservations against anyone whatsoever, it's an individual tournament!

That explains it.
Thanks for another top quality video, always a treat
Great analysis as always Mr. King. Also, you look as dashing as always.
Thank you kindly.
A deep dark forest of a game! That variation with the exchange sacrifice on c5 looks particularly unclear. Well played game by both players.

Thankfully, the players are still only armed with their own minds at the board.

Great to see all these newer players
That was a great win for Gukesh. thanks Daniel.
Brill as ever Daniel. Thanks

In games like this Gukesh shines bright because he is so curious to explore the long winding dirt roads wherever they may lead him.
No spoilers, please
Is he the new Tal???
To see Qxg7 is easy, but to see it so far in advance, just wow.

Or to bother keep losing to him
"Three pieces are attacking the pawn"; "There are twenty years between the players". Danny, we're chess players, not mathematicians!
French is back in fashion
A pesar de qué hay muchos mocos y gargajos en la garganta me encantan los comentarios del Gran Maestro
LOL

Nothing like that
