  • What are the best things to do in Cornwall? What is St Michael’s Mount and should you go there? Should you visit Porthleven? Where did they film Poldark? Find out this and so much more in this video!
    We started our day at Mutton Cove, just past Godrevy Point and Godrevy Lighthouse. This cove is known as a popular place for seals to come up onto the beach and we were so fortunate to see so many! After this we headed to Marazion to see the incredible St Michael’s Mount. This tidal island is accessible by a manmade causeway at low tide but it’s necessary to get a boat (or swim!) when the tide is high. Unfortunately, due to the filming of the new Game of Thrones prequel: House of the Dragon, we weren’t able to visit the island. Luckily, I could still fly my drone and get some beautiful drone footage of St Michael’s Mount from the air. After this we made our way to Rinsey to one of Cornwall’s old mines - Wheal Prosper - and a filming location for Poldark. Here we were fortunate enough to watch some bodyboarders during golden hour, before heading onto Porthleven. The Porthleven sunset that we saw was amazing, with birds flying past and drinks in hand! Fun fact alert! St Michaels Mount used to be a castle on a hill in the depths of thick forest. Few years ago there was a big storm that took all the sand from the beach and revealed the stumps from the trees.
    I've known quite a few people that have lived on the Mount. It's blimming gorgeous!! I've played flute in the church and even been in the living quarters of the castle. (The Royal family like to spend their holidays on the Mount too)
    Also they were filming the Game of thrones Prequel *hush hush*

    • @LozsLeisure
      @LozsLeisure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great fact! Thanks for sharing 🙌 it really would feel surreal living there I'm sure... How was it getting to play flute there and exploring the living quarters?
      And still need to watch that actually, would be cool knowing we were so close when they were filming 😆

      @@LozsLeisure Ngl really scary haha. But the Lord and Lady St Aubyn are really lovely. The the actual living quarters are not as royal and regal as you might expect. It gave more "grandma's house" energy but in a nice way.

    The true Cornish name for st michael's mount by the way is Karrek Loos yn Koos, which in English translates roughly to grey rock in the woods. And interestingly enough it shows how well our oral history was passed down, because a number of years ago we had really bad storms one winter, and one of the storms stripped a few feet of sand from mounts bay, and beneath the sand the 6 thousand year old forest became visible again.

      Be warned that you can only visit the harbour and cafe for free. If you want to go into the grounds around the Mount you have to pay a hefty amount and another big charge to go inside.

    Very nice vlog. Watch out in 2022 as there will be a £14 charge to access the island alone, charged at its causeway gate,unless a National Trust member. Perhaps this charge is to be offset against Castle and gardens entry?
    I know everyone is feeling the pinch , even long established aristocratic families such as that of the owners, but this is excessive on top of the other income from the visits. This is also not the only aristocratic landowning business in the Duchy to be risking or consolidating an impression of pushing profits regardless of wider community considerations.

    • @LozsLeisure
      @LozsLeisure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Andy! Thanks for the kind words - I didn’t know they were introducing that charge! My guess is that it won’t be offset 🙄 certainly seems excessive to me. I wonder if they’re doing it in order to capitalise on the influx of visitors the latest production will be paving the way for…

      Aha, it's actually been really interesting finding out more about this. Feeling very British/English myself, I didn't realise there was such a strong sentiment in Cornwall on this. I hadn't really come across it before. Anyways, hope the Cornish can forgive another silly Englishman! Thanks for watching, Markotron!
