Another thing that should be pointed out about Demon Lords, is that Bowser and Ganondorf are Demon Lords theirselves, with their Japanese names having the word Daimou in them, which means Great Demon King in Japanese, and the 2 Nintendo villains preceded the Demon Lords from Dragon Quest!😄

Someone finally talking about Rance's role in influencing modern works, the world feels like it is shifting. Though I disagree with the points you make towards the end about societal change impacting what type of character is popular, I do think this video is great and well-researched. If you want you could also talk about how video game mechanics became extremely popular in Isekai and how that is basically a contribution to fiction made by Alicesoft and popularized by their Rance series. With things like level gods literally existing even in the first game of the series. Back to something I mentioned earlier, the reason I say that societal change doesn't impact what character archetype is popular is because we have seen similar archetypes in the past. Simply put people just want something different, then when the different thing becomes common it is back to the old thing. The brooding protagonist who is more realistic for example would be a perfect match for Elric of Melnibone, and though you might not have heard of him back when the books were first made the series was extremely popular rivaling even Tolkien's work and introduced the concept of Chaos vs Order to fiction (something you now can't escape in fiction). The main reason people have forgotten it is from a lack of any movie or game adaptation, despite multiple failed attempts. Heck another example is the success of Star Wars, part of the reason it was so successful is not the terrible CGI (even at the time) or the big names on the cover, it was from the fact that Star Wars was not morally ambiguous in a time in which films were all morally ambiguous. Star Wars had a clear black and white, and with a movie audience tired of all the grey it was the perfect film to produce.
I get what you're saying, I've definitely seen the pattern you're talking about in popular media. I'm glad to see another person here who recognizes Rance too. Thanks for the constructive comment I really do appreciate it.
It's an image of Gele during her reign as demon king. I don't have the full context because I haven't played every rance game, but I do know that pre demon king Gi is to the right of her so this is the past. Those women are probably nameless victims of her's given how brutally she treated humanity. This is also likely from an older game given the style and design. Maybe kichikuou rance?
Alicesoft games in general were all very very influential to the more satirical fantasy shows. And even the more serious ones like re;zero seem very inspired by stories like dorapeko. It's sad a lot of these games haven't been translated. I just got done playing dorapeko. And it's plot is very similar to re;zero. Also a video about demons doesn't have a rance demon song? 😤 What are you doing?
Screw demon lords! Why is everyone so obsessed with making main characters as demon lords? Not to mention that most of those demons have no visual differences from humans!
For me Ariel is kinda unique Demon Lord. Technically Ariel is MC/Kumoko's grandma.
wait i thought they were sisters or she'd be an aunt? they had the same mom right or am i misremembering
@@TheWipal You're misremembering. Ariel is the MC's grandma as she's the origin of that spider race and was the mother of the MC's mother.
Rance is so important and so good, any fan of isekai, rpgs, fantasy and eroge must play at least kichikuo rance.

that image of Gele from rance on the throne, what is the context of that image who were those presumabley dead girls?

@@jadethescribe That image is from X, the final Rance game that was released in 2018
@@Ladiusmann gotcha I haven't played X yet (gotta play everything else first, also need English release). Thanks for the info
Gele is one the worse demon kings in history and successfully enslaved humanity
@@LadiusmannThe image is actually from 03 dud
Great video I enjoyed it 👍
Thank you thank you! I worked hard on it so I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊

@@mouhou9795 I forgot in the heat of the moment. Would have made perfect sense in hindsight lol.
In my point of view, the hero is boring
Not rance though 😏
oh
Demon lords are no different than gods lol.Its just fancy name now
I mean, it really depends on what verse. Some series this would be accurate but for something like Rance demon lords are basically tools of the gods.
I see someone likes Comic Girls.
Screw demon lords! Why is everyone so obsessed with making main characters as demon lords?
Not to mention that most of those demons have no visual differences from humans!
because it's a cool concept and who wouldn't wanna be or be around an attractive and powerful ruler not bound by what human rulers are bound by
lmao... yeesh. 😂
