Was wondering why Talion kept drawing Ashani cards, and then realized at the end of the video, the whole rules text for the card. In CEDH, Talion seems such a good commander to have 😁
Played against one last night, actually, though only in regular edh, not cedh. It def was good and I think cedh viable, but it can get overrun and out controlled. Still good though
Seeing this video, i actually think Talion the kindly lord, is better suited to CEDH than EDH, because in CEDH there is alot of repeates in each deck, mana vault and crupt, dockside. If you choose 1 as we saw in these games, Talion just draws you a lot of cards, where as in EDH, things are just more, all over the place.
@@cliiwenwhat does Alela even do, by the way? It seems like she just has three unrelated abilities (anthem for flyers, token for an artifact, and token for an enchantment (there's no synergy between artifacts and enchantments))
Yeah, I watched a video that Play to Win put out and that was exactly how the Talion player lost. They had done the Thassa's Consultation combo but was forced to draw after Consultation exiled the whole library. Was an interesting ending
@@Snowjiggles Yeah. Good ole mandatory triggers. Stopped a Blue Farm player by casting two spells with their Thassa trigger on the stack because Kraum is also mandatory.
I was wondering this too. I'm guessing he was saving it to push a win attempt on his own turn but at that stage in the game lim duls vault signaled final turn if he didn't crack it on upkeep 🤷
My reaction to Talion was similar to the first time I saw Anje Falkenrath on your channel "Uhhh interessting, lets see what they can do" and then the draws start and im like "Oh.... OH.... OOOOOOOH" :D
So why exactly is Banishing Knack in Esika? What is it's function? Edit: Read the decklist. I can see its there for the Jeskai Ascendancy. Kinda questionable, but why not.
I don’t watch all that often, but every time I watch people just feed the fishes and rhystic constantly. Not even just that first game but so many others to.
It's hard not to feed the fish in cEDH, with so many low MV noncreature spells. Giving an opponent extra cards is risky, but essentially skipping a turn to avoid that is even riskier. Players tend to pay more for Rhystic and Sentinel, though.
@@iambensummers Agreed. That and some of those first hands just being very confusing hands to have kept so early (not many mulligans). It's not even where this is the first video I've seen of them doing it. Their have been multiple where I have just watched them continuously feed the fish.
It's a control deck. It wants to play a longer game, and it wants to keep the creature around longer. Sakashima allows you to enter as a copy of Talion and name a different number. It's not just there for things like dockside.
Before watching the game I gotta say these opening hands are terrible… Talion maybe has the best one because of turn 1 commander but what is anyone else’s plan lmao. Marwyn’s is oookay, as long as a forest shows up in the first two draws, but sheesh these hands… mulligan is there for a reason!
Talion's hand is fine, being a control deck and expecting a lot of triggers from a turn 1 Talion is decent enough but you run the risk of not getting enough interaction, since you only have a spell pierce you could lose to a turbo Marwyn win very easily. Esika's hand has literally 0 win cons or card advantage and no way to shuffle if you don't like your top 3 from sensei's top, I would never keep this hand. Marwyn's hand does nothing without another land, and even if you do draw another land, it's still turn two Marwyn that needs to find a pay off for infinite mana on turn three and has no protection or back up plan (still a decent enough hand though tbh just has a little risky but it's mono green, you gotta go for it) On a mull to six it makes a little more sense that this was kept but I'm greedy and might have gone deeper. Kenrith's Hand is praying on Mystic Remora, it's a strong card but all colorless mana after burning lotus petal for a fish is very risky. He can pay for it for a while so he's bound to get some cards but I would probably try and hunt for a faster hand, playing the long game against Talion is never fun and if Marwyn drops a Collector Ouphe you lose. Also fish getting hit by Mental Misstep means you lose. It worked out for them when they top decked a land but that could have been a much worse game if that was a different card on top. Alsooo, sucks that Marwyn lost in such a sad way. Embiggen into Umbral Mantle right away, means infinite mana playing around mindbreak trap, you then get rishkar's mindbreaked and win with woodland bellower and duskwatch recruiter, sad days. @@Joolenplus

@@iAMtunaFISH They dont, you need to watch more of the episodes where people mull to 3 and 4. Also to be clear they air the most entertaining games from multi-game sessions.
People always say this but people also always forget you can leave 2 cards in your library (or even 3 if Talion is out) and still win when Thassa's Oracle resolves its ETB ability.
I've played against that Ashani dude on Spelltable. The clown cheats with cards to the side. You guys really let a fool like that play with you & post it on here. Sorry you had to play with him.
That's the whole point of combos, though, isn't it? A combo wouldn't be very good if it didn't demand the casting of particular cards in a certain order. By your logic, should Isochron Sceptre and Dramatic reversal be banned too? Thoracle Pact is fragile, so the intrigue and skill comes from your timing. If you just get to 4 mana and then main-phase your combo, you're done for. Literally Stern Scolding or Dispel stops your combo... It's hot trash if you're not a good player. Also, efficient combos demand efficient metas. If they banned Pact, people would run fewer counter spells and games would be no less boring, but a lot less interactive. Orcish Bowmaster is a single card, and has warped the meta, even changing how people decide to pay for Rhystic or not. Should it be banned because it demands a certain style of play? Just get some counter spells and stop complaining about fair magic.@@Lordidude
@@DarkEinherjarhad to do some digging here, 'cause vehicles triggering Talion seems really counter-intuitive. So as far as I understand, while a vehicle on the stack is not a creature, it does have its printed P/T. And since Talion doesn't specify that it needs to be a *creature* spell that has the chosen power or toughness.. Love it.
The first game is a prime example of why you dont feed the fish, not play every non-creature in your hand to see who can let them draw the most cards.
