Great question.... For the type of driving I do (Trails) I think Control arm suspension is better. Control arms are easier on the axles and transaxles. And in this setup it allows me to get more travel. And to some degree I think I like it because it's a little different.
@@DougBugBuilder I understand. I like the adjustability you can get from aarms so i guess its really a matter of preference and application. But I do believe trailing arms provide more hook up on holeshots without unnatural forces on the connections. Whereas aarms deliver the travel needed for rock crawling with equal load on the connections. It's kinda like six in one hand half a dozen in the other...
Just found your videos, really like the rear a arm idea. One question though, the load placed on the plate that the unitbearing bolts to seems awfully thin at 1/8 inch. I know your trying to pull that u joint in as far as you can but a boxed spindle with sleeved bolt holes might be worth looking into. Then you can rebuild it and pull the hime joints centerline of the u joint. Lime I said really dig the build enjoying the videos thanks..
Tony Bush, I can't argue with you on that. That's one item I will really need to keep an eye on once I get some test runs in. I'm hoping because it has so little area before the side bracing comes into play and with the casting it won't have to carry to much stress. We'll see, your boxing idea is good. It could be, as long as the bolt holes are close to the edges. If it's flexing you'll feel it going around turns or in rough terrain. The brakes will feel loose because if it's flexing the calipers pistons will get pushed in some as it flexes. So the next time you hit the brakes they'll feel soft.
It has held up well. I made it out of 1/8". When I make my next rear spindles it will have 3/16" for the mounting flange. But that being said, this one has held up fine. At one point I thought it was flexing under hard cornering on asphault. But tearing things apart I found the spindles were fine. It was my rear wheels that were flexing.

The spindle itself is made up of 3/16" mild steel. Hope that gets you going, let me know if you need more info. Good Luck!

Sorry I missed this earlier. The rear control arms are 24" from center point of the outside and inside pivot points.

Hey bud, those are 3/4" heims. With the spacers they end up using 1/2" bolts.

which material do you use for it?
Everything was 1/8" mild steel except where the caliper bolts on. That's 1/4" mild steel.
May I ask where you got the heims from?

Nothing special, just heavy duty construction paper from Target or Walmart.
