    notes:
    - your brain is really good at forgetting things, usually what it thinks is irrelevant (such as the license plate to random cars).
    - There are two pathways that information gets processed - to retain or forget.
    - We retain the information that we see as relevant to us in some way. It has to have relationship with something you already remember vs information thats perceived to be isolated.
    - Information priority: when you're prioritizing understanding/memorizing new information. It is going down the isolated information pathway and will be harder to retain.
    - Relationship priority: Instead you should prioritize forming connections with other things you already know. This speeds up the retention process.
    - Our brain will form relationships after we have retained the information anyways - but we can also do that first.
    - Regularly self check when you're studying whether you're prioritizing information or relationships.
    - Form relationships why asking questions like - "Why is this important?" "How is it related?" "How to apply it?" "How is it relevant" etc
    - When we form relationships first, it organizes the info like a map in our brain and makes it easier to apply and more accessible.
Great advice! Sorta goes in line with what memorization experts say which is to create a story in you brain with the new information to help retain it. This sorta goes a step further by further engaging with the knowledge rather than just for retention purposes.

    - We should focus on increasing retention instead of repeating information many times.
    - Our brain easily forgets isolated information.
    - Instead, we should focus on finding relationships between different concepts to produce higher retention rates.
    - Foster relationships by posing questions such as "What is the significance of this?" "How does it connect to other ideas?" "How can it be put into practice?" "What is its relevance?" etc.

This is just beautiful. I was critical of you at first for lacking substance, but after watching so many “talks” of yours, you are just subtly, subconsciously changing my inefficient learning methods. I am a guy who puts learning on a high pedestal and wants to learn so much stuff and always finds lacking time for it. I cannot thank you enough for this, this is like saving time for me to do other stuff and, time is life. Forever grateful. Will buy your course to get everything together in a consolidated form. The relationship idea makes sense, and I feel I do a decent job of that naturally. There are situations though where I feel I need just a surface run-through of all the information before I can do relationship building or blocking the information. The two scenarios where I need those multiple exposures before building relationships is when the presentation of the information is not well done, and or the material is very foreign to me and the relationships are harder for me. Also, I think having an online of the work to actively work through before my first exposure to the material helps with the chunking and relationship process.

    • @bobbobson4030
      @bobbobson4030 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yep, if it is well explained you can draw connections automatically. But I find most topics in class are given without context. This is where having a technique to draw connections yourself, comes in. Otherwise my mind just treats the info as irrelevant and forgets it

Have your sins been forgiven today and forever? Think about this. The God of the Bible, the One True God made You and I to worship him, obey Him, and enjoy Him forever. But You and I break His laws daily. You, like me, are not good at all in the eyes of God.
‘There is no one good, no not even one. (Romans3:10)
‘For all have sinned and fall short of The Glory of God’ (Romans 3:23)
You have always done wrong in the eyes of God, this is a problem because Psalm 5:5 reads: ‘...You [GOD] hate all who do wrong.’
‘But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will
      be revealed.’ Rom 5:5
The person who sins is the one who will die. Ezekiel 18:20
All these things and more are counted against us. God is the just judge of the world and one day He will judge you, and you are guilty.
He will settle the score for all the wrongs you've done. God is holy meaning He is righteous (morally perfect in thought, word, and deed) It also means He is set apart and infinitely higher than us. God will punish You for all Your sin or wrongdoing in the world, this is because He is Good and Just Judge.
This means that if You sin ONCE, God will cast you in hell for eternity. Because He is good and He doesn't turn a blind eye to sin. So how can God forgive you and me of all our sins? But there is good news. 2000 years ago Jesus the Son of God came into this world and lived a perfect life ( He never sinned once) and He died on the cross taking the wrath that we deserve and paid the penalty for the sins we committed.
The bible says that if you will repent
(confess and forsake your sins) and trust in what Christ did on the cross OUT OF HIS LOVE FOR YOU-(He took the wrath of God against you for your evil deeds and thoughts). Then all your sins will be forgiven and when you die you will be in heaven with God and all who have believed in The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This is the true Gospel of Jesus:
Jesus died( Bore the punishment for your evil sins and heart, so that you can be forgiven. He took your special spot in Hell) and on the third day, He rose from the grave(So that you can have true life and His spot next to The only true God.).
      Verses:
‘All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by ChristJesus.’ Rom3:24; 'Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.' John 3:18
Get right with God today, don't wait. Once you die after that comes the judgment. It's the most important thing you can do. If you repent and trust in what Christ did on the cross for You then you will be born again. Right now you're dead in your sins and you can't see the beauty of Jesus Christ but after you trust in Christ all the things you hate about God like obeying him, serving Him, loving Him and others, reading the bible, praying, and going to church, you will love to do those things because God changes your heart. That's how you know you have been born again and forgiven. Please think long about this, and most importantly please take at least 5 minutes a day to read the Bible. Start in 'Matthew'. An eternity in hell (darkness and a lake of fire the bible describes it, with weeping and gnashing of teeth) or an eternity in the loving arms of God who is infinitely glorious, has infinite knowledge and has infinite power and love to do all that He pleases. You decide. Truth is independent of human conviction, meaning that what you believe does not change the fact that Jesus is your only Hope!
      Have a wonderful day

Maximizing retention is key to efficient studying. Rather than focusing on relearning and revising forgotten information, the goal should be to retain it from the start. The traditional education system has conditioned students to prioritize memorization over understanding relationships between concepts. However, the brain is wired to retain information that is meaningful and interconnected. By shifting from an information priority to a relationship priority, students can improve their retention and understanding of the material. This involves thinking about how information is related to other concepts and organizing it accordingly. Utilizing techniques like mind maps and asking questions about the importance and relationships of information can facilitate this process. By adopting a relationship priority approach to learning, students can enhance their studying efficiency and improve their overall performance.

Ironic that I'm taking notes on this left-to-right, top-to-bottom. Alas, a stop-gap until I've absorbed it (and especially applied it!).
I think the video was a bit repetitive and could be a bit more concise ~ 10-15 mins or so. I really liked the example with photosynthesis and root structures, esp considering I'm learning about Carbon Cycles atm. Very cool stuff.
I've heard of something similar to this before, though the chunking/grouping/categorisation was referred to as a "mental model" which had some central concepts and then branched out into a tighter interconnected web of knowledge, and from that were offshoots associations of trivia/curios.
I also just accidentally discovered I can move between tabs by using shift+PgUp and shift+PgDn, so I've got that going for me I guess.

I have been watching your videos and specially this topic of working in a better encoding technique seems to be what I really need to improve my studying.
Although, it is still weird for me to just do the relationship together with the understanding. How can I relate something that I dont understand it or trying to understand?
I will try to keep asking those 4 questions when studying to see if it helps.
When you relate the information, do you do it a relationship about the topics you are studying? Or do you relate using analogies? If you use analogies, what kind? Personal stuff, other subjects?
It feels that doing all those relationships in a meaningful way is really difficult that it would triple the time to study something.

The thing is, and you probably know this, you theoretically have very good tips, but you stretch them out on multiple long videos, without really giving practical examples which one actively can apply.
I know you have to sell your program, but I think your channel would really benefit from making shorter videos and spending more time with practice tips one can apply. Then your channel would be one of the best for learning, but right now, its more a creator of fomo than anything else.

Also learning makes it possible for us to adapt to our enviroment. It creates mental represtations of our enviroment (our subjective reality) in order to predict events in the future and this process has grown more and more as we developed symbolic articulation. So in order to learn someone has to create a mental representation of the information first and then it can be optimized and consolidated for longer periods of time. Also its important to not forget the relevancy of the information because this is the indicator our brain needs to know if it should consolidate this information or delete it. (Use it or lose it) - So in conclusion -> create mental represantations of the information and make it relevant for your life! Happy learning
