I have a cadillac cts gdi 3.6 motor have a loud idle at startup and car rides fine while driving but at idle I have a horrible cabin vibration. I already replaced the motor mounts plugs and spark plugs replaced the plugs twice last year and this year. Not sure what to do next thinking walnut blasting but, cant find a shop to do this.
This was much harder than it looks. The subibro tool definetly made the process much much cleaner. At 45k miles the walnut is not enough and you do need to poke down in there and get off the stuck on gunk. About 7 hours in (by myself, newish hobbyist) and about to reassemble.
walnut blasting should be enough. every scenario ive seen, it did the job well.... using top tier gas will make it easier im sure. less carbon and gunk built up
Did u feel anything after? throttle response and such? I had mine done today but i cant feel difference. Starting to think if the guy actually blasted it or not...
Jr i have a question bro. I know you don't have the car anymore, but do you think the valves being dirty would cause fine knock learn or some type of weird stuff with the car? I'm almost at 55k and everything else have been checked and cleaned or replaced and this is the last thing I haven't done. Just curious what you think would happen with the car if this was really dirty. Thanks in advance
I did mine at 40k and protune was at 30k it was disgusting then and im overdue about to do it again. Had egr and aos since protune also btw. Still very much nessisary!!
I saw the blaster at harbor freight but the kit does not include the long extension tip . Where did you get it and does it mount directly to the harbor freight gun? The adapter??? Where did you get it from ? Looks like one can be made from a block of wood with center cut for hose!!! Will the plastic cover you used work with a impreza 2.0 f b 20 engine? I believe you have a f a 20 . Please let me know
Hey I have same car with 12,000 miles on it I do all 2 miles to work and back can any1 tell me if the old iltalin tune up works or helps with these cars. Should I drive mine hard does it help or hurt cuz I drive mine like an old man
@11:22 .. do u need to reinstall the splitters into cylinder heads with TGV Deletes? Do they serve any purpose at that point? Thinking they'd just cause restriction, minor.. but still restriction.
I know clean valves improves flow but how would you clean the area where the valve touches the valve seat? That's another important area. I am currently trying to get an answer from Subaru about the excessive carbon build up.
Subaru makes a 3 part fluid engine cleaning kit specifically for their direct injected engines. Definitely would consult a professional on it though. Dealerships should have it available.
Gonna touch 80k on mine. Excited to do this along with Stage 1 stuff while I'm in there. Planning on a catch can system in addition to EGR delete at the same time. Hoping I'll only have to do this once or at most once every few years.
Is it necessary to blast the splitters as well? I know you guys showed it in this video as a demonstration of how the walnut media reacts to metal, but I wasn't sure if that's something I should do as well. Awesome video. Very helpful.

Still looks like a PITA and I don't know what use I would have for a media blaster and shells afterwards. What is the dealer cost for this maintenance?
If you already have the TGV's deleted you don't need to put those head separator plates back in. You'll actually see a power increase if you leave them out.
When you replaced the coolant you initially drained, did you just pour it back in the Radiator? Also, did you have to bleed the coolant, and if so how did you do it? Both videos were great! Thanks for putting this out for us!
Sorry for the late comment. Did you bleed the coolant? I am halfway done cleaning them (everything is completely apart, tomorrow I blast) and I was thinking of just burping the coolant system for air.

At 120k miles on my car there was a sticky carbon sludge that needed to be scraped off, do this sooner than 120k and it will be much easier. Lol

Yes, built up debris can come loose and end up in your combustion chamber causing knock.

No, it only delays it. There is still not getting around the fact that vapors from the combustion chamber enter into the intake manifold.
When you were doing this job, did you notice the knock sensor locations?
Still a little confused on the vacuum process, and also would of loved to see the valves afterwards, wth.

whats the PSI the air compresser is set at ?
You should use the spec that is called out on your media blaster we used somewhere around 90-100 on this.

If you are putting them back in, I would blast them too. Most who switch to TGV deletes end up taking them out.

Since you have to ensure the valves are closed, you simply vacuum out the remaining shells. They're easy to spot.
