DEEP Street Market Walk in the Heart of Freetown, Sierra Leone 🇸🇱

  • At the center of Freetown, the heart of Sierra Leone, lies a sprawling street market that covers blocks and blocks, where you can find anything if you know where to look and where you definitely have to watch your step so you don't get run over by a KeKe (tuk tuk).
I went LIVE during this market walk. You can watch that video, which has some narration, here: th-cam.com/users/li...
Note: As a foreigner I would NEVER have tried to film in this market if I were by myself. My friend, Vincent, with the blue backpack is a bit of a local celebrity and he got me the street approval to do this. His wife was walking behind me so I could focus on filming. Even then, it wasn't a stop and gawk situation.
Second note: I walked through the market just fine by myself when I was a shopper/tourist. The issue wasn't safety. It was only the presence of the camera that complicated things. There are many complex reasons for this in Sierra Leone. I feel privileged that with Vincent's help I was able to get this interesting and very honest footage.
    Enjoy.

I love your video very much. Our people are alive, out for the day. They are walking, talking and being themselves. So why do say 'not for the faint hearted?.
Thank you for for sharing this. I look forward for more.

Glad you like it. I say not for the faint-hearted because a crowded market like this would be intimidating for a lot of travelers from Western cultures. I love it, but still can be a lot after a while. ❤️🇸🇱

Yes indeed! We were only there for 10 days but it was obvious that Sierra Leone and its people are very special.

    says "not for faint hearted"
this looks like markets north of my city.
I am not even from the continent.
    I am supposedly faint-hearted.
    Lovely Sierra Leone, btw 👍

Sierra Leone was awesome. The market did get intense at points and I was only able to film because I had a local friend with me.
Glad you liked the video 😁

Похоже на апраксин рынок в петербурге, просто точная копия

I'm going to post a translation for those who don't read Russian (supplied by Google Translate): It looks like Apraksin market in St. Petersburg, just an exact copy.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.
That's interesting. While a lot of markets bear some resemblances to each other, I'm not sure how many I expect to be this intense. Though I know this isn't the only one. I expect to find many more in my travels.

Poor filming camera moving far to fast.

This was a very challenging filming situation. Market walks are difficult.
However, if you take a look at the most recent market walk video I think you'll be more satisfied.

They're in a tough place right now, yes. But that's not what I take from this. I say, so much life!
      No need for pity.
