    Interesting that columns annoy you! For me they are a game changer to pack more text into one horizontal space. Also the fact that ANY block can be a column allows for tricks like a picture colum next to another picture column or a text column. Or you can have 3 sections/headings right next to each other.

      True. But Canvas give full image/video/text flexibility...
      Colums are often different points which for me makes more sense with split screen.
      We are all different tho 😁

    My reasons for using Notion are same as you: Databases [mainly] and collaboration [rarely]. And with markdown tables editor and databases in the roadmap of Obsidian, I can wait a while till they are implemented and I can leave Notion for ever.

    Notion is useful for work because it gives me a nice, clean format for writing private notes, checklists, wikis, personal development plans, organising work tasks and storing the odd file, all of which I can easily access on my home computer. It provides just enough versatility to do everything I need it to in one place without having to resort to a bunch of MS Office files.
    HOWEVER, I keep it very simple now. I have a few regular pages and one database, and there's nothing more than the bare minimum in there. I'm not interested in creating a "system" because I remember how slow it can get and how much of a time suck my old Notion system was. I'm not even interested enough to bother learning how to use its features properly or fix any niggles I have. And its irritating quirks provide too many friction points for me personally, especially for longform writing.
    My sprawling private projects live in Obsidian, which is better for me on every level. Faster, more private, more versatile (especially since canvases were introduced) and easier to find what I need.

    I use Notion for my day to day work and Obsidian for notes (as I want to be de notes from me). If I can figure out how the dataview can work as the tables (and calculations) in Notion… than I probably convert… (Calculating budgets en expenses, or count my cost per wear from clothing). But I do link the simplicity to add things where I want in a page and maybe I think in databases more than in free thoughts….

    Notion has a ctrl+N shortcut to create a new page in a default location. Most people have the default be either unnested (so it just shows up in the sidebar) or an Inbox database.

      Yeah, but you cant select from template dropdowns with that, unless I am missing something.

    I find myself using Notion for writing, maintaining, and sharing pipeline docs with my team on how to complete different tasks like video editing phases needed for my other TH-cam channel. Also used for tracking client projects with a portal. I use Obsidian to actually write the videos themselves and as my pkm system, and everything else.
    I was smoking some weed the other day contemplating how cool an entire OS file explorer based on Obsidian would be. Technically possible by making your vault on the root of your C drive, but from what I understand, vaults inside of vaults is a bad idea.

      Vaults in vaults is just folders.
      You can switch between them, I would just questiin the reasoning.

    How is your active line where your cursor is highlighted? Is it community plugin or some setting?

    • @DannyHatcherTech

      It is a short custom css snippet. It is some of my template downloads if you take a look at the backlog 😁

      @@DannyHatcherTech I'm not a tech guy & newbie in obsidian so can u plz give me a link to this css snippet or where i can find it?

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HarryPotter-vs4yf If you make a snippet file in the appearance settings and add this. You can then change the colour.
      .theme-light .cm-active
      {
      background-color: colour;
      }
      .theme-dark .cm-active
      {
      background-color: colour;
      }

    Obsidian having a cost for syncing across devices makes it a no go for me.

    2:50 with new properties and snippet it's as easy as in Notion

    12:12 Whatever is shown is the reason my Obsidian is now locked at 1.37....
    Until such a time I can toggle properties off.

      I am not sure what you are struggling with. That timestamp shows Notion backlinks - unless I am making a mistake.

    Notion isn't specialised as a notetaking software, it's much more broad, and therefore in a way powerful.
    Obsidian is better for xour usecase.
