  • @chrisporter84

    Power metal is more thrashy for most bands in the US, but in Europe, it's more affiliate to speed metal, and melodic or even symphonic metal. For exemple Iced Earth and and Nevermore are from the US and have more thrash roots even if it's more melodic and polished, and in Europe you have bands like Hammerfall or Helloween who have more melodic solos , hi pitched dramatic singing or more keyboards parts... but these are just exemple, sometimes the line is more blurry. keep it on guys, i love your channel, and i'm sorry for damn broken english, i do the best i can. @@Hollywood6IX no, power metal comes from classic heavy metal like Maiden, Priest or Dio and speed metal plus a Medieval-epic approach. Thrash and Power movements started almost at the same time, so the answer is no, they have similar roots hence the similarities.

      Power Metal was born in 1984 in my city - Hamburg, Germany by my 2nd favourite frontman, after James - KAI HANSEN on his Helloween EP - Walls Of Jericho. He is the grandfather of power metal.
      But 'Tallica used the term Power Metal in 1982 before there was a term for trash.

    • @MegaKat
      @MegaKat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hollywood6IX Yes and no. Thrash was born a lot more from Black Metal, not Power Metal, but Thrash definitely got a lot of influences from Power metal. Examples of Black Metal include King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, and Hell hammer. They're more melodic than Power Metal. Examples of Power metal would be Dio, Black Sabbath, Sabaton, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Blind Guardian, etc. Trash is faster, closer to Speed metal in a way, while being melodic in a similar way to Black metal. There are so many subgenres of metal that it'll make your head spin, honestly.

    About
    The theme of the song revolves around the San Francisco thrash scene of the 1980s. The most prominent club played by Metallica was the Old Waldorf located at 444 Battery Street in downtown San Francsico. The tone of the song is one of familial ties and the positive release of energy through the common interest of metal. The lyric "Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in me" is a statement that while society at large doesn't understand the scene, those within it (i.e. "the family") will fiercely defend it as a show of solidarity against the glam scene that was popular in the Los Angeles area

Several songs are about the things that control our lives, Master of Puppets about addiction, Sanitarium about mental health, Leper Messiah about religion, Disposable Heroes about war...but then there's Battery and The Thing That Should Not Be and my concept album hypothesis falls apart. Battery is about Battery St. where they got their start in music, and The Thing is based on an H.P. Lovecraft story called Shadow Over Innsmouth.

    The original term for Thrash Metal was Power Metal, but after common use of the word Thrashing in the underground and then a review of Metallica's Ride The Lightning in 1984 that supposedly coined the term Thrash Metal, the genre was cemented. In terms of when both genres came out, many point to Rainbow being the first Power Metal band having included influences of fantasy and symphonic textures about battles and mythology. However, and here's what I find quite interesting, it's arguable that both Power Metal and Thrash Metal began with Queen of all bands! Queen were doing fast Metal songs in their early years, most notable Stone Cold Crazy from 1974, of which Metallica covered and is considered the first Thrash Metal song by many. However, several months earlier that same year, they had an album that is often retrospectively seen as the most overshadowed Queen album, despite reaching the ears of many soon-to-be Power Metal legends such as Blind Guardian. On that album, there was nothing but fantasy and artistic tragedy-inspired lyrics overtop symphonic narrative-inducing heavy metal instrumentals that have later been described as early steps into Power Metal. The most notable song that fits this is Ogre Battle! Soaring harmonies and heavy suspenseful riffs with lyrics about mythical beings in battle, it quite literally screams Power Metal, 2 years before Rainbow went Power Metal with Ronnie James Dio and 8 years before Iron Maiden went Power Metal with Bruce Dickinson!

    This is the opening track off Master Of Puppets LP, saw them live here in Corpus Christi TX a little before Cliff Burton tragically died over seas...😢 was planted right in front of him throughout the set cause I love bass guitar 🎸.....🤘👽🤘
    You should check out Lepper Messiah off this album

    if you really wanna know how metal came to be there is a really good documentary called "METAL: a headbanger's journey" it's even on youtube these days, i got that on DVD ;D

    Oh yes, greatest song ever! I enjoy other hearing it for the first time, the intro still gives me chills everytime.
    About the quote of Lars killing it, I agree. But on top of that he's the engine driving Metallica forward from the day one.
    And the thing all the haters don't realize, there's a reason why he has credits on almost every Metallica song. Dude's a master in arranging music.
    Also these songs wouldn't sound the same if they had some other drummer playing, check for example Mike Portnoy playing this. He's a beast of a drummer, but his style just doesn't compliment this song.
    Hope you listen through the whole record, it's a banger!

      Back in the day Lars was an awesome drummer, now he struggles too much trying to play the older stuff and has become sloppy about it. The newer stuff yeah much easier. Most band members contribute with the writing and arrangements.... thats why him and James are always butting heads when it comes to writing, they argue like a married couple does lol 🤘

    If you have ever seen an old movie where soldiers take a big pole and slam it against a castle gate, that is the Battery

  • @steverogers3919
    @steverogers3919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The song battery refers to Battery Street where James and Lars kind of started out. It was a place where all the cool heavy-metal guys hung out and was a place of neverending good vibes/energy James used those times and that place as a never-ending inspiration and energy that he drawed upon going forward. I never could quite figure out that songs meaning until I read the explanation! LOL

    For an epic vocal performance from James react to Bleeding Me from the original S&M show from 99. The band sounds so good at this show with the orchestra, but Bleeding Me is incredible.

    Funny you guys bring up power metal. My two favorite bands of all time are Metallica and then Unleash The Archers. I know that there's a bit of a change going from James and these thrash riffs to Brittney's vocals, but I really think you should do some more UTA reactions. I think that the Apex album would be a good starting point (you guys already did Awakening). Cleanse The Bloodlines, The Matriarch, and Apex would be songs to check out. Great reaction and love the videos.
