    That appeared to work much better. I need to see about move our church service to another night🤣. I always have to leave just after you start.

      Yes, slot punch worked better, no question. I know it's tough to catch live streams for most. I may try different times - sometimes a bit earlier, sometimes a bit later. Thanks.

    That punch seems to work well for you. I wish I could punch that well...! If you have a source for coal dust or graphite, that will help prevent sticking of the punch...I imagine coal dust is nearly impossible to find where you are. There are some commercial punch lubes out there. Quick and Dirty Tools in USA makes some, but they appear to be out of stock at this time, and that would be an expensive shipping cost.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, hard to find suitable coal here. But I can find forge coke though I doubt that would work. Maybe graphite. Or maybe charcoal. I'll see... Thanks.

    Glen, I see what you mean about the hammer shape moving the metal. I use a gentle rounding hammer for most of my work, and experience slow moving metal as you were at the beginning. I just thought it was not getting the steel hot enough. Gonna tru reshaping one of my “ soft” hammers in process to a wide peen like you showed.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm famous for not varying my hammer use (hammer faces) enough or for not using an anvil horn when I should. That needs to change as the difference in how hot steel moves is obvious. Thanks.

    I have a piece of A33 i was gonna make one of these out of to punch the eye for a tomahawk, but i think i am gonna try to make one from an old ballpein hammer first.

    Nicely done. What are you using to mark your hammer blank ? Looks like you can see it through the heat.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael, good question. I used a paint pen. The ones I buy retain the mark even after being heated to forging temp. Thanks.
