When I was young In Italy it was always a pepper mill. Salt mill did not really exit until recently. The ceramic grinder has changed that in recent years so the general rule we go by is the pepper mill is always taller or darker. So to say, if there are two mills of the same wood species, the pepper mill is the taller one. If they are a different species of wood then they could be the same size but the darker wood is pepper. Hence, taller or darker... and could be both but that is up to you. God Bless :)

Very nice demo, Colwin. And thank you to Ben too. Please could we have some much closer camera work to enlarge the details to see more? Thanks a lot.

Colwin says twice that he is using / used a 24mm bit for the deeper hole in the top. The Crushgrind instructions (and all other sources I have seen) say 22mm, which matches the diameter of the top for the linear splines to bite. Is Colvin doing a loose fit that will be glued, or was this a mistake?

What grit of sandpaper was that after oiling?

Hi there, this would be a 600 grit for a final finish

Curious Colwin, as to what you aim for when rounding the body of the mill body base at the mechanism end?
You make the holes with the mill drill for the mechanism to seat in. Then you measure back, from the front of the body, to clear both the entrance hole and mechanism hole and make that mark on the outside of the mill body. Then shape the body section. Is there a minimum you would round to?
Thanks for the info in advance
    Take care
    Cheers
    Harold
