I have been splitting wood with wedges and a maul since I was 10 years old! I am now 67 years old and find the 6 lb maul better because of the speed! I am 6ft 4 225 lbs! You remind me of myself when I was young! Great job young man!
One thing I forgot to mention is that the 6lb maul seems to stick in elm, it will sometimes penetrate deep in wet elm but it will be very sticky because it is thinner than the 8lb maul, and doesn't have as agressive of a wedge.
I don't mean any disrespect, and I may not have split as much wood as you, but I've never had success splitting hardwood with an axe, except for maybe poplar, this elm is very stringy, and is very hard to split, we once got an axe stuck in a chunk of an elm stump that I had split with wedges, and had to pound it loose with a sledge because it was so stuck. Generally I split large ash or elm rounds with a wedge because it is so hard to split.
@AOL304 the thing with Arvika axe is you must drive the head of the axe in the gravel for a few swings otherwise it will stick in the round..I split all species with one..every round has its weak point..just learn how to read the round..oak..maple..poplar..i split the rounds green..freshly cut..easier it is..cheers bro..keep swinging that axe..it rules
That would be extremely nice, and it would be interesting to see how a 5lb splitting axe would work, unfortunately it is about $540 above my budget, I'm pretty cheap :)
Horrible swing technique. Waste of energy and is likely to cause back injury. Also likely to result in broken handle! Don't do this! I've been spitting wood for 50 years.

Thanks for the compliment!
One hell of a swing you got there man. Keep it up young man you’ll be a pro in no time. Always nice to see young men doing stuff outdoors.

Beautiful swinging form. Extra momentum you generate when you drop your knees is beautiful.
Thanks, my dad told me about that technique.
To funny

Bro..buy a Arvika 5 star axe..I log on the West Coast and we all use them..splits thru oldgrowth Douglas fir like a knife thru butter

I would love to have a HB Arvika 5 star though, would be great to fell and buck with.

What you really need is the wood bullet from Hoffman blacksmithing

Need to get a mic or atleast AirPods so we can hear you
Thanks for the suggestion, been looking at some, will have to do more research so I can find one I like.
@@AmericanOutdoorLivingI’d also recommend wearing better shoes than crocs 😅
Thanks, I have steel toe boots now that I will typically wear if I am splitting.
Get some work boots n logsplitter daddy 4get vids.
