never heard of Triumph
Leukemia patient here. I no longer have the strength to pull my bow. No longer have the endurance to put in long hikes. So now, I get to sit and wait with a crossbow. Pisses me off that that is what my “hunting” has come to, but at least I still am out there. If you hate my crossbow, well who cares!
Their conibears didn't impress me. FYI
Ok, thanks for letting me know.
Take it from someone who has had the great opportunity to hunt with gun, xbow, and compound bow. They all have a great advantage. Obviously gun long distance minimum practice required, anyone who says a crossbow is like a short gun or anyone says there are huge advantages to an xbow you have never shot a xbow, xbows are bulky, heavy and loud. And your range is nothing like a gun. But you gain maybe an extra 10 yds over a compound bow. This is exactly why people are leaving the hunting community because of stupid petty arguments like this. Please please if you love to hunt and you love the outdoors use what your confident in and enjoy creation and high five everyone who does the same. As for camo or not to camo I would worry more about controlling your stink😂 deer are more likely to run if they smell you than see you. I wear solid black or dark browns I don’t waste money on camo. All that said good job on the video keep it up.
Very well said, thanks!
having your high powered "bow", already cocked, is a HUGE advantage. Plus they have scoped optics. Oh well
Ok, ditch your sights, ditch your release (aka a trigger by another name), ditch your high powered compound bow that took thousands of years of evolution to create, and use a low powered recurve, then we can talk skill or advantage.
I strictly compound hunt. I also have no issue with a man or woman who hunts with a crossbow. To eaches own, it’s all about getting in the outdoors and doing what you love. Good luck this year!
Thanks, good luck to you too!
Total price??
On the Eastwood website it is $4,436.97 for the table and plasma cutter but currently on sale for $3,999.97.
Looking good! I know I’m a little bit late, and I saw that you didn’t catch a salmon! So here’s a few little suggestions, maybe go a little bit earlier, the third week in September to the 2nd week in October is the best time to go. Or, going for the creek/river mouth in the last week of August to the second week in September with a J-13 or little Cleo spoon would also work. In the actual river/creek, use roe bags, in-line spinners (size 3’s are good!!), Cleo’s will work too, and beads. I’ve personally tried glow yarn but never have any luck with it lol. Anyways, good luck out there. Also, if you tell me how deep the water your fishing is I could also tell you what size leader you should use!
Thanks for the advice! And where we were fishing the water varies from ankle deep on the edges to almost (or sometimes over) the tops of waiter in the middle.
@@AmericanOutdoorLiving run a 4-5 ft - 10 pound flurocarbon leader. And fish deepest parts
That's an awesome saw it's nice to see a younger generation appreciating it.
Uh, nice more hammers from Home Depot.
You should do a video titled "Are compound bow hunters elitist jerks that are gatekeeping archery season from people that are disabled and can't use a compound bow so they use a crossbow instead or maybe they just want to use a crossbow? The answer will shock you."
One is a bow the other is a gun that shoots arrows, that’s the difference.
Crossbows should be used when you can’t physically pull a compound or trad bow back anymore
@@Ohzark They used to say the same thing about compounds in the 70s, they said that an able bodied person should not need to rely on pulleys and let off, they also said compounds should only be used by the elderly and disabled, and that was long before 85% let off was a thing.
@Ohzark, I'm guessing you haven't used a crossbow, you sight it in at 20 and it may drop almost a foot or more at 40. There is no rimfire or centerfire round nor muzzleloader that has that much drop. Nor can crossbows shoot 200+ yards like any modern centerfire rifle. Nor do they use gunpowder or have a barrel, so no they are not guns that shoot arrows.
@@AmericanOutdoorLivingnotice how I said it’s a gun that fires arrows not a firearm🤣 and as for the argument “back in my day” no one cares lmao it’s the fact that crossbows are responsible for killing 2 1/2 deer to every one deer killed with compound/trad bow. If you use a crossbow when you can physically pull a bow back and you choose to hunt with a crossbow it’s obvious you don’t have the discipline or just the ability to use a an actual bow and not a crossgun
Compound guy's complain about crossbows and yet they have every piece of gear they can buy on their bow's to give themselves an advantage, If Mathews made a 1000 fps bow with an arrow guidance system vertical bow guy's would use them and still complain about crossbows. I shoot a 1965 wing falcon that shoots about 150 fps and I could care less what a guy uses to hunt, but I find the "crossbow is an advantage" line amusing coming from guy's who have every gizmo known to man on their bow's to give themselves an advantage.
The only people who hate on crossbows are trophy sportsmen. Hunters don't care what puts meat in your freezer. There should be two hunting license prices. One cheap price for hunters trying to feed their families, can even be doe only. Then one high price for trophy sportsmen only after clout.
Deer see shades of blue and yellow and deer see the color orange as a shade of grey but if you get in the deer woods and be stilI and not move around I don't care what color you are wearing they will not detect you they detect movement they can see a human hand move at 100 yards away i hunt with a crossbow I'm 68 but I still have my old vertical darton recurve to hunt with I don't understand why people hate on hunting with xbows there will always be haters out there no matter what and that was a good video
Thanks for the knowledge and the compliment.
Deer cant see orange, it looks green to them. They can see blue, you would be more hidden to the deer in orange.
Crossbows are for handicapped people
I think it comes down to the different motivations men have to hunt. If you're strictly hunting for meat then use whatever you want that's legal in your given area. If you're hunting for the sport/challenge of it, I think that's the conflict comes in. Some men get a ton of satisfaction from the challenge of a hunt and when you use something like a crossbow you're removing a lot of the effort you need to put in to make a good ethical shot on an animal. So is it as sporting for an able bodied person to use a crossbow? No it's certainly not, that said if you're strictly hunting for mean then use what you like as long as it's cool with the law.
If you are hunting for the challenge you should use a traditional bow, it's not really that challenging to hold back 12 pounds while aligning your peep and pin while waiting for the perfect time to use your mechanical release, I guess the biggest challenge is making sure you don't drop your rangefinder.
@@schl8675 I hunt with both, that said this is the problem with trad guys and why so many people don't like us. You act like it doesn't take skills and a bunch of prep/practice to hunt with a compound.
@@Ohyouknowbro No, not at all, just pointing out the hypocrisy. Compound guy's call crossbows crossguns and say there is no skill or practice needed to hunt with one just as you are saying trad guy's do to compound guy's. The only time I hear trad guy's talking crap about compound guy's are during the crossbow debates, where the compound guy's like to say crossbows are the "easy button" for guys' who don't want to invest the time to learn to shoot a compound or don't want to put in the effort you need to put a good ethical shot on an animal. Go back and read YOUR initial comment and replace the word crossbow both times with compound bow and you will see you did the same thing you accuse me of, Had I wrote your exact same post to you with the word compound in place of crossbow both times you would have been offended, and yet you posted it taking a shot at crossbow guy's.
Wait until someone tells you the advantages of bullets over arrows or xbow bolts. It'll amaze you. :)
Also a compound bow not a regular bow either. But I won't be elitist and try to say you should be using Mongolian horse bows.
I always err on the side of freedom. I only get one buck tag, who cares whether I shoot it with a bow or xbow? Anti crossbow Karens can find something else to complain about.
Amen, why would you prevent someone from using whatever tool works best for them.
They will, they probably don't even realize that they sound just like the anti gun, anti hunting crowd with the I don't like it therefore it must be banned.
Yea it is legitimate. I was just out in my stand with my crossbow and started hearing popping only to look down and see my limb splintering. WTF Ps. You don’t need camo or gear to hunt deer. The biggest bucks I’ve shot I’ve been in blue jeans and a blue sweatshirt listening to the nfl on my little radio smoking a cig drinking coffee completely exposed on a mound of dirt.
Sorry about your crossbow, on the positive side, it didn't expode and throw shrapnel, right?
@@AmericanOutdoorLiving my thoughts exactly.
Very rarely do I wear camo. The range is actually better with a compound bow as the arrow is heavier. The bolt is lighter and losses it's energy faster. With mechanical broadheads from a crossbow, 30 and 40 yards can be too far as they don't have the energy. 40 with a compound is no issue.
Depends on the compound bow, and depends on the crossbow lol Some crossbows can shoot 200 yards with no problems with power
@@ritsaaja shoot and have enough power to deploy a mechanical broadhead are two different things. A compound will shoot that far as well. The weight of projectile matters as lighter bolts will loose the energy faster than heavier arrows. Even though the heavy arrow is traveling slower, it has more energy.
@@Adam-upnorth Yeah ik, just sounded like you were slandering crossbows after seeing weak ones or something, my bad And the latter things you say are true as well, ik basic physics
@@ritsaaja oh no, I can no longer use a compound or a longbow due to a shoulder injury and repair. I hunt with a crossbow and have taken several deer with them. I just feel my range is shorter despite faster flight. The bolts don't have the same power as an arrow at and past around 35 yards. I just took a doe last week with a crossbow. I'll link my channel below. youtube.com/@slingshotfeverpullshootrepeat?si=2WBWoKFQ1h67CJVv
You know, they make crossbows that shoot 500 fps nowadays?
My son had a major accident about 5 years ago which resulted in severe injuries including a broken back. I got him a Wicked Ridge Crossbow. We sighted it in at 40 yards, and he has been doing well with it. I am 70 years old and I shoot a BowTech that is set at 68 pounds with a 29-inch draw length. I shoot it at 60 yards with no issues although 99% of my shots at dear that I killed are within 25 yards. In my opinion, the crossbow has 3 advantages. 1- less manipulation since it is already cocked, 2- it is scoped and allows more accurate aiming for aging eyes like mine, 3- Wider shooting circle almost 270 degrees if you are in a tree stand sitting against a tree. I actually shot with it an 8-pointer to my right, a shot that I wouldn't have been able to make with my regular bow. I am however, opposed to crossbows during archery season except for some people who can't use a regular bow. Ironically, I switched to a traditional recurve bow about a year ago and I really enjoy shooting it a lot.
Sorry about what happened to your son, I hope he is doing better. It's good to hear that he was able to get out and hunt though. Hopefully you both get to fill your tags this year!
I don’t know about hate. Just recognition that the xbow is an advantage over a compound bow, as the compound bow is an advantage over a traditional bow.
No it’s not! I heard all the exact arguments in the early 70’s with all the trad bow guys screaming at the top of there lungs about how the compound bow was going to end deer hunting for ever. Now I’m witnessing the same thing happening again but now it’s all the compound bow guys screaming the same things that happened to them 50 years earlier!
It's funny since a pope tried to ban crossbows in warfare in 1130 something. That's how powerful and effective they were even then.
A quick google search told me that mideval hunting crossbows had a draw weight around 450-600lbs, while military ones had a draw weight of 700-1300lbs, and I have to imagine that they shot much heavier bolts, so yes, they would be effective, but these crossbows are similar to today's crossbows only in name.
Couldn’t agree more. I will always take a little shit from the primitive guys but not from today’s compound hunter. Today’s compound is a technological marvel that anybody can shoot and shoot extremely well. I laugh everytime I see these “purist” compound guys go on about crossbows lol
@@clovismeaux9532well compared to throwing rocks they probably were 😂😂😂
Yup it's just a shorter range gun. Should go back to the way it was here in Illinois. You had to have a physical disability to use a crossbow during archery season.
All bows are "shorter range guns." Be a real man and run naked through the snow, grunting and throwing sticks and stones. I hunt to feed my family and on private land. You want to limit yourself and call it a sport go ahead, but I'll feed my family and take any advantage to do so. I'm not looking to brag about my uphill both ways in the snow BS, I'm looking to fill my freezer.
@@handlesaredumb1 I fill my freezer every year with with a selfbow, stone points, and river cane arrows, all made by my own hands. Guess my woodsmanship is just better than yours. Crossbows ate made for those that can't read sign and like natural ability.
@Tradbow85 I do just fine for someone who was never taught and only started hunting two years ago. People wonder why the hunting tradition is disappearing, it's people like you who think their way is the only way, and everyone else is wrong. Bow hunters are the most arrogant pricks I've dealt with. If you don't use their brands, use their poundage, use their type bow, you're wrong and not a real hunter. Everything anyone else does from using a tree stand to how long they stay in the woods is wrong. It figures someone from one of the worst blue states would be fine with restricting freedoms of Americans.
Thank you
How are you liking this plasma table so far?. I like the fact it's 4x4 but can't find much videos/reviews from customers.
Honestly we haven't used it too much, but for what we have used it for it has worked fine. It is just a 4x4 plasma table, not cheap, not overbuilt, nor does it have many features, it has just what you need to get the job done.
Got a 405 to and just smoke oned yesterday with it to

I have the same bow and hunt with it, great shooter fast and quiet, you did good at 60 bucks thats a steal
Thanks, it is a pretty nice bow.
I just got one without reddot You did great but I traded mine for a brand new in the box 415 cross bow But that was a good deal still
Congrats.
Didn't Buck call them the Buck prince at one time ? bought a bunch when Walmart was clearing them out but this guy gave them all away as gifts to Doctors etc. should have kept one. DUH .
The Buck 503 Prince is still made, and is a different knife from the Buck 055. The blade on the Prince is a slightly different length and shape, and the body of the knife is made from a silver colored material, as opposed to brass.
Cold steel trail boss. Way better hand on it and it won't come loose for the same price, same style Axe
I have that axe and it is my most used axe, but for me it falls into the "boys axe" or "3/4 axe" category rather than a hatchet category.
Found that out the hard way. Got a return to sender, and five staples in my knee lol. Good advice!💪🏻
Tomahawk Tuah
I mean against a hard target like a tree i understand. But sharpening isnt really required when used against a human body. It only takes a pound of pressure to tear the skin.
Ooooooooooorrrr don’t buy the cheap crossbows.. ten point, ravin, and mission are the only complains that make quality products
