I think you might be surprised at how much of your audience are not "competition quality miniature painters". I'm far past tabletop standard nowadays, but mostly come to learn new techniques and enjoy your personality/humor. Also as a disclaimer, I've never owned or played a game in the WarHammer universe. I own over a hundred board games and play skirmish games like Malifaux, Moonstone, MCP, and others. Just thought I'd say that you could just paint interesting models and I'd click and watch to see what you do with it.
I think I'm really now starting to understand this, but I also really like to try out new things. That's keeps it fresh and exciting for me. I figure doing a mixture of experimental and normal painting videos is the play.
Also me. Bigger board gamer and never played warhammer. I have tried OPR though. Your escalation league plan is what my son and I are doing to army up. So thanks for that.
I’ve literally never heard the ventilation noise in your videos btw. I appreciate how you are blazing your own path on what you’re interested in and not riding the coattails of whatever is currently popular. I can’t overstate how refreshing your videos are!
Thanks, Scott!! I found your videos in late 2020. That was the toughest year of my then 38 years. In that year I found out I had cancer and my dad died from covid shortly there after and a whole bunch of other garbage. But your channel helped get me through 2021 and 2022, and inspired me to share some of my work with a couple childhood friends which reignited our friendship. So thank you for all your hard work, I appreciate what you do and I love my brush coffin. Here’s to an amazing 2024.
Way to go on making the decision to step back & shed things that aren’t serving you Scott. 2023 was a similar realization for me. I started all of this back in 2005, but quickly got pulled into other channels, game stores, companies, & conventions. I miss working on stuff for myself & enjoying the hobby, so I’m returning to the fray focusing on my own interests & content for a while, see where that leads. Cheers!
The live "paint more minis" was epic Scott! Glad you are focusing on creating joy for yourself at the same time as creating your content. Love your stuff but can't wait to see what the new philosophy brings. Best of luck this year and much love
Just stopping to pump the algorithm and day that I'm really happy with where your channel is going and am glad you've made the decision to cull back and refocus on what makes you happy to create.
Scott, it's great to hear your painting is helping those with PTSD. I began to explore mini painting as a means to deal with my PTSD from my service as an alternative to some of the more common artistic outlets such as painting masks and such. As I have very little in the way of a painting community where I live, channels such as the ones you, Jon and Emil run have been absolutely key in helping me along the way. Thanks so much, man. Also, is 2024 the year Drunk Mini Painting 3 comes out? The previous two have had me rollin'!
I took a 3 year break from the mini painting sphere, and it's honestly dope to come back and see all the diverse content and all the hardwork you put in. I'm just one viewer, but I love your content, man. Keep it up, Scott.
What a heartfelt video. I got into miniatures/painting at Adepticon 2019. Just in time to get set up and start to have a clue before the pandemic fired up. I found your channel then as well. It’s what got me through the pandemic and keeps me going in the hobby. I love TUP and @ninjon as well. Sorry you had so many trials and tribulations during 2023. Here’s hoping for a better 2024 for all of us. Keep doing what you do.
I'm a metalhead and like the vast majority of metalheads, a huge nerd. I've been playing D&D for 21 years. That was my gateway into warhammer and over the last year or so mini painting and 3d printing. Obviously, people like me are your targeted audience. I've binged your content as well as Johns and Vinces. I even became a goody PP. The content you make has helped me improve as an artist and given me a glimpse into a world i would have never experienced otherwise. Inspired me to really go for it and go full ballsack into the things i love. Mainly painting bladesmithing and some shredding on the side. Tldr you check all the boxes genuine kindness, superb educational content , and excellent taste in music. Keep at it. Your work is appreciated.
Hearing how much comments affect other youtubers, I really hope you don't let these negative ones affect you or your product. I really like your videos and the evolution of how you put them out. I remember being bummed out when you said you'd only release videos when they were ready. While we don't get as many videos throughout the year, I think the quality of your videos have gone exponentially up. I really hope you're successful in the coming year. Both as an artist, and financially through the channel.
I started watching your videos 2 or 3 years ago when I started painting minis, and I always find myself poking my head into your channel and streams when I have the time to look at the media sites. Your content has always come off to me as genuine, well thought out and just a joy to watch every time. I do like when I get to see when people doing anything creative pull back the curtain just a bit, but not too much, so we get to see somebody we can relate to in our struggles and triumphs. It wasnt until you mentioned you were a computer engineer that it clicked for me why I found you so relatable, and especially so when you pulled out the notebook and books. From one computer engineer to another, keep up the awesome work and I look forward to getting to see the volleyball game someday!
I honestly think some people are on different planets to us. I think over the last few years you have clearly been smashing it bro! You have been doing what you want to do. That is the whole point of a hobby. I think you have been happier and it clearly comes across in your content too. Hearing you in TUP, it clear you are so motivated. You also watched lots of star wars so are a winner in my books! You are smashing it mate. Make sure you have fun first, that's a priority. Also the vast majority of your fans/viewers arent competition quality painters. They will enjoy anything you make. Painting, gaming, reviews, passion and anything else hobby related. And remember all your true fans enjoy anything you enjoy too 😊
I did it mom! I made the cut and got my question answered! Thanks for the awesome year of videos, I was honestly feeling the channel was going stale before you change the direction this year. Awesome job
Started painting this year and finding your channel was a blessing. I watched a lot of videos to learn how to paint, but I've enjoyed yours and learned from yours the most.
You were one of the first mini painters I watched on youtube and over the past 2 years or so, my painting has improved dramatically because of the things I’ve learned and tried between watching you and a few others. I enjoy all the content you make and have been introduced to a lot of cool things because of you too
A few years ago I made the arbitrary decision that the modern person should have a 3d printer and know how to use it - which was how I found your channel. After a long enough time of having mini painting videos on in the background I thought, why not? and came up with a plan to paint a mini. I had a specific idea and bought the bare minimum I needed to execute. Boy howdy did the baby blue to hot pink wings with a purple wash work like a charm. I knew I wouldn't be able to tell if paint was leaving the brush, so I bought the loudest colours I could to make it easier. Since then I've only painted as crunchily as I'm able, and it's a nice meditation. Thank you for helping me find a lovely addition to my human experience. It won't unread some of those comments, but I'll leave another nice comment next year.
I do not understand why people get so mad about your content when they make a complaint they clearly out themselves for clearly not seeing all your content, or the people that are gate keeping youtube content, you have 350k subs that do stick around let that sink in. Haters gunna hate! Its probably more to do with them being jealous that your job is cool and fun and you get to do what you are passionate about :) please keep up the content you do alot of good :)
Ran into you last year late one night at Adepticon wherein I was only maybe sorta (completely) smashed after a long day of long war doubles & bevvies. You were super cool about it and I think even tried to ask me a couple questions about the hobby / Adepticon experience, etc. to make conversation while I just sort of rambled. My midwestern guilt forced me into a patreon sub as a result. 11/10 encounter; would vaguely remember again. Thanks for an awesome year of content and looking forward to the next!
Scott, to put it simply: You're awesome! Thank you for what you do, and if you ever feel like the haters are getting to be too much, let me know. I'll throw hands!
I have never heard fan noise in a video, that dude is crazy. Also love your videos, hopefully we get some more shatterpoint stuff soon that was my favorite video this year.
Totally agree, I listen to videos with Sennheiser Momentum headphones which are pretty decent quality and I can confidently say I have never heard the ventilation noise I I hear all kinds of background noise in other channels all the time.
When I first decided to dip my toes into the hobby of miniature painting, you were one of the first channels I stumbled across. If not for videos like yours and many other TH-cam personalities, I wouldn't have continued in this hobby. Not because of any lack of fun, but because I didn't know where to start. It's overwhelming at first. What paints to buy? What brushes to use? What to look for in a "quality mini"? What other tools do I need? Etc. Even now there are things I learn from these channels every week that keep the hobby fresh. At the time of writing this you have 352K subscribers of others like myself. I would say you are definitely "some use to society". Thank you for many years of videos, and here's to many more!
I wanted to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thank you. Your incredible work in miniature painting has been a huge inspiration for me. It's not just the artistry in your work, but also your dedication and passion that motivated me to start my own TH-cam channel, ILTPWC. While my channel focuses on a different niche - server technology, programming, and exploring the vast possibilities of computers - the creativity and persistence I've seen in your videos have been a guiding light. Your content also rekindled my interest in working on 3D printed models and Warhammer figurines, blending my love for technology and miniature art in unique ways. It's amazing how different worlds of creativity can intersect and inspire. Thank you, Miniac, for being a beacon for creators like myself. Keep up the fantastic work! 🥰
Buddy I’ve never painted a “mini” in my life! I do paint gunpla so I come to the channel for some tips that interest me, but I’ll likely never use, and more importantly... the antics! Love the channel bro, keep it up
Your channel is one that was highly recommended to me when I started painting in May of 2020. I've been a fan ever since. Thank you for another year of content, and here's to another year where we both Paint More Minis!
I LOVE your channel. I've only been painting for a little over a year and half, but you give me something aspire towards. You show that its not magic, it's technique. Your videos are the perfect blend of aspiration and inspiration, and it's exactly what I need at this point in my "hobby journey". And, as someone who has ZERO interest in GW, I always find something useful, some little nugget of wisdom, that inspires me. I can't watch a Miniac video without immediately wanting to grab my brush. Thank you, Scott. I respect and appreciate you.
Always love new videos from Miniac! If i had one request, its more skits, more warcraft 3 references, and more derpy scott (glasses upside down guy) asking questions with answers. Love your mathematical approach to teaching and creation.
I'm from up North - DULUTH MN - and what a winter, huh? Can prime outside! I'm a middle-aged college teacher that plays board games with the fam. About 6 years ago my wife said I should start painting the minis in the games - I thought 1. Can't 2. Won't 3. OK I'll try. 4. Now I'm addicted to this and sometimes buy games just to get to the minis. It has re-awakened my passion when I was in my single digits in the 1970s using enamel paints on model WWII planes and tanks. I come here to learn techniques for sure, but sometimes it's just fun to see what CAN be achieved and I'll paint while your videos are on as inspiration. As a life-long self-taught person in most things I have always tried to figure out solutions for myself but here the pacing and humor allows me to learn with my own modest goals in mind.
Scott, it's awesome that the board game video was one of you best performers, I've watched it a few times. I think showcasing other games intermittently is a great way to keep it fresh for you, and to unload some of your game creating thoughts. I think your video on games you were excited about was one the first I saw, and I preordered Demonship immediately afterwards. I'm sure it can be difficult as a creator constantly dealing with the effort to please everyone, but you have a great personality that comes through in your videos. Your views/viewers will come and go, and will eventually be filtered out into the people that care about seeing what you like and enjoy. Love the content man, have a fun 2024!
Been with you since around 2016 with the early morning twitch streams (cue the 7 YEARS emote). Fell in love with your content back then and it has largely grown on me. It has been fantastic to witness your growth as a content creator and even just as a human in general :) All the best Scott - you keep doing you!
I love the variety of hobby painters on TH-cam and all of the different styles of videos they put out! I try to "be me" and enjoy the progress as I tackle all of my army projects.
2023 was the first year I started to watch you and I've really enjoyed your style and content. Also great to see that TH-cam mini painters are connected and enjoy doing things with each other. I'm looking forward to your minis in the comp with Jay (Eons) - what take will you do?? Obviously not pink and teal!
I may hate the last 5 seconds of every video, but I love all the smiles you give me before. Cheers to you and yours, Scott, thanks for your insight and amazing content.
Looking forward to some amazing videos this year. Just FYI my favorite videos are also the EOB videos where a cool mini just gets worked on and a good time is had while doing it. Nothing gets me more jazzed to get behind my own painting desk than hearing/watching some just having a good time painting something rad. We all need pallet cleansers for our armies too so keep encouraging your audience to paint different things or at least reminding us that different things exist. Keep up the good work man...… and watch more RAD 80's and 90's movies
You and Ninjon are easily at the top of mini-painting entertainment video-creators. TUP is just… Perfection 👌 Keep doing what makes you happy - Because when you like what you do, it comes through in the videos, making it much more enjoyable to watch. Also, you’re to blame for me getting into ASOIAF - Which have won me my first painting trophy (Best Painted Army at a local event! 😁) - So thanks for that! Edit: If either of you ever comes to Denmark, I would love to buy you a beverage of your choice!
New sub to the channel this year, you are my favourite 'high energy' miniature related channel! I'm rarely that interested by the exact title of your videos, but I always know I'll find it entertaining and very well made! Keep making the good stuff and I'll keep playing it on repeat while I grind out my army batch paints (and maybe even learn something as I go!)!
*in the same way that Kim shouts it in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World*: SCOTT!!! Hey hope you're having fun and the fam is well, looking forward to seeing more from you in the new year. xoxo
Thank you for sharing your hobby and all the laughs. You are my go to if I want to know how something works or I just need something funny to change my mood.
I'm really glad to hear you're entering this new year feeling so encouraged, I'm excited to see all the fun and exciting things you get up to! (Also the fact that in 2024 people are still saying "Get a real job" to anyone is truly wild to me)
I love nothing more than screaming ‘Paint More MINIS’ at people. Love the channel, appreciate the inspiration and tricks you’ve taught me over the years
Your channel is awesome!! With the mix of metal and minis you can't go wrong!! I have learned a lot from your videos and really enjoy your content. Keep rocking on in the new year!!
been watching since i was in middle school im married now and you taught me how to paint your a hobby hero and im happy to have grown and watched you grow over the years keep it up
Loved this video - the way you opened up about your year really landed. Hope 2024 turns out better once you're out from under 'The Shadow of the Kickstarter'. (I'm in Singapore, and just got a 'you have a package' notification from Australia Post, so I reckon it's on it's way!)
I really enjoyed your videos in 2023! I really appreciate your candor in everything you do and i look forward to watching in 24. My wife and I are expecting our first child right around adepticon this year and so I won't be going. I am going to miss TUP live and the conversations afterward probably most!
Love the video, love the channel, love the podcast. You are singularly the reason I got back into the hobby after stumbling across the channel a few years back so couldn’t be more grateful. Keep up the great work and hope you know how much joy, laughter, education and top quality content you bring to the community.
Was going to make a comment that the outro is sick and makes me want to paint more minis, and I wish I could have the whole song. Then I noticed the Music link in the description, time to paint more minis! Looking forward to what you do in 2024
I picked up mini painting right before covid(perfect timing) and your channel was essential for my mini painting education, and last year i won my first (small) painting competition. In 2023 i was unemployed for about 4 months after being laid off, and for the first time i was able to sit and watch you twitch streams which really helped me through a tough time. I just wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for me and the community and I hope you have continued success in all your mini/gaming related endeavors in 2024
Went back to this video (because I like hearing about creative processes of any kind), about the productivity with other people in your studio: some people I work with use a light (one colleague had a bunny rabbit desk lamp) and when that light was on you were NOT ALLOWED to interupt them. Like a red light in a recording studio. When they took some distance from their creative work, they would switch of the light. Aslong as everyone agrees to honor this system it works really well. Also, allot an hour in the day to discuss things going on. Could be half an hour in the morning, half in the afternoon. People can save questions for then.
I love this video every single year: A little glimpse behind the scenes, and also seeing what the insane people with keyboards are saying in the comments sections. In regards to the latter, thanks for taking one for the team.😂
Thank you for answering my question Scott! You have always been a big inspiration for me on TH-cam, and in our hobby! I hope to get the chance to meet you at Adepticon this year!
Awesome video brother. You have to do you otherwise you won't love doing it anymore. I'm glad you were able to say so and focus more on your time. Much love and support for the future.
Lobe the video Scott, really amazing to see you being so open and honest. My opinion is the content you make is super engaging and the variety of topics is always interesting. Excited to see what 2024 brings.
I always enjoy these videos, it is like a start of year tradition to watch them! Also, I did not notice any ventilation noise on your videos...but I am nearly 40 and I have listened to metal through headphones since I was 13 so my hearing is probably f*cked!
Half of my painting supplies and tools that I use all the time is because I watched your videos and clicked through your links. It's all very appreciated, at least from this guy.
Ive been painting minis since 2001 and recently having found your channel I have been trying some different techniques out for the first time. So thanks for the motivation to experiment a bit
Really resonating with the segment on negative comments. I deal with this in my own work every day. So glad to see you rolling with the punches and having fun with it. Keep on keeping on, man 👊🏼
Hey Scott! I really appreciate your hard work to constantly create content for us, I've been a fan for years now and it was great getting to meet you at Adepticon 2023. I'm excited to see what this year will bring. Keep doing what you're doing!
I very rarely comment, but I had to say I enjoy watching whatever you make. Keep at it, and keep doing what you love. Wish you the best in 2024. Much love my dude.
I just wish I could give you a hug. And say you do you boo. That’s why we are here. Thank you! Keep up the amazing work! You are amazing! I have learned so much from you. Please don’t stop!
No idea how you put yourself through reading those comments but it certainly helped me to realise that I’m not the only person who sees much of humanity as insane. Love your work. Looking forward to seeing more. Thank you.
The value you have brought to my life. Without you and Jon, I would still drive down the street, look at the sign "chicken fingers" and think, "who would want to eat that?" OH how wrong I was. I bless you sir, I bless your family, I bless your relationships, I bless your career. Live long and prosper! I shall joy in my chicken and PAINT MORE MINIS.
Hey man, I feel ya big time on 2023 being more of an uphill climb than a year of enjoyment or fulfillment. Doesn't mean that we can't keep a door open for optimism in this upcoming year! I've been following your journey through everything, whether that be teaching (non-insitutionally, as is the metal head way!) or creatively or just through life, for a good while it feels. I'll just give the ol' Canadian Red-Green adage: I'm rooting for you. Remember, we're all in this together! Keep your stick on the ice.
Keep doing your thing. You are driving a train and you have laid some solid tracks. You have more energy than most mini paintings. And I walk away from your videos with some of your excitement, some of your positive energy. Then I take that positive energy and share it with the people I meet throughout the day. So just keep doing you. Sorry I didn't order from your Kickstarter. I didn't have hobby budget at the time. Was busy changing jobs. But would love to see another Kickstarter.
I think you might be surprised at how much of your audience are not "competition quality miniature painters". Same here. Right now I’m painting Return to Dark Tower, Gotham City Chronicles and Tiny Epic Dungeons. I’ve never played a tabletop war game.
Also me. Bigger board gamer and never played warhammer. I have tried OPR though. Your escalation league plan is what my son and I are doing to army up. So thanks for that.
I really want to find a group to play moonstone with
Same, I do own now some mesbg armies and a seraphon army but i didn‘t play anything yet. But the board game angle, definitely
I’ve literally never heard the ventilation noise in your videos btw. I appreciate how you are blazing your own path on what you’re interested in and not riding the coattails of whatever is currently popular. I can’t overstate how refreshing your videos are!
Loved your stuff this year, my dude. You were, and ARE, my hobby hero.
ps. Emil is 100% taller than me! Dude's a giant.
That tracks. Jötunn
The new video was great, we want need to see more of your dog though
Deadbeat dad.
Thanks, Scott!!

best video of 2024
I'm an old man who got into painting about a year ago and your videos keep me painting. Keep up the good work.
I got started 4 years ago I'm 51 now and bringing the DND world I always wanted as a kid dreaming

Thank you for helping me find a lovely addition to my human experience.
It won't unread some of those comments, but I'll leave another nice comment next year.
The "Is this done?" comment has gutted me on many occasion because I really like the Artis Opus Drybrush painting.
As a newer painter that is the most disheartening comment someone can give me when I post something that took me 40+ hours to feel good about.
Thank you for this video. Love seeing the retrospective each year. Cheering for you!

love some guilt-induced support

Thanks for a last year of great videos. So Subscribed
Love the content and watch it adapt in the last several years; always a treat to watch a Miniac vid! Looking forward to 2024!
The live "PAINT MORE MINIS" at the end was the best!
I always look forward to this video! Thanks for making this a yearly thing.
I can't tell you how thankful I am that you are on TH-cam. You have shared so much and made me laugh the whole time. Thank you.
I really liked your board game video! It helped me to pick out some new ones for my group.
that was a fucking SICK death metal growl outro. love you Scott, in a platonic, strangers, kind of way. keep doing your thing man!
You and Ninjon are easily at the top of mini-painting entertainment video-creators. TUP is just… Perfection 👌
Keep doing what makes you happy - Because when you like what you do, it comes through in the videos, making it much more enjoyable to watch.
Keep making the good stuff and I'll keep playing it on repeat while I grind out my army batch paints (and maybe even learn something as I go!)!
i can’t hear the ventilation ever.
No idea what ventilation noise he's talking about so... yeah, me neither.
Love the channel and seeing how far you have come with editing and quality over the years.
That Raph Koster book was pretty awesome. I'm not even a game designer, but I loved Star Wars Galaxies back in the day and really enjoyed his book.
*in the same way that Kim shouts it in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World*: SCOTT!!!
Hey hope you're having fun and the fam is well, looking forward to seeing more from you in the new year. xoxo
I always wanted to have a video to watch that was just model painting with music and nothing else. Can’t wait for that video to drop!
Love the channel, appreciate the inspiration and tricks you’ve taught me over the years
You're enthusiasm is why I watch your channel. You've helped me grow as a painter and I love those videos but do what you love, we'll be here.
Your channel is awesome!! With the mix of metal and minis you can't go wrong!! I have learned a lot from your videos and really enjoy your content. Keep rocking on in the new year!!
been watching since i was in middle school im married now and you taught me how to paint your a hobby hero and im happy to have grown and watched you grow over the years keep it up
Love the content you and Ninjon put out. You guys are genuinely refreshing.
That metal growl at the end boosted my mini painting, thanks Scott
Loved this video - the way you opened up about your year really landed. Hope 2024 turns out better once you're out from under 'The Shadow of the Kickstarter'. (I'm in Singapore, and just got a 'you have a package' notification from Australia Post, so I reckon it's on it's way!)
that's amazing to hear!
@@MiniacIt just arrived :)
Thank you so much for the shout out Scott! I’ll be at Adepticon this year with new stickies to hand out to folks! ❤
I really enjoyed your videos in 2023! I really appreciate your candor in everything you do and i look forward to watching in 24.
My wife and I are expecting our first child right around adepticon this year and so I won't be going. I am going to miss TUP live and the conversations afterward probably most!
Love the video! And also thanks to the person who raised the ventilation query, never heard of before but now... It's all I hear! Dammit!
Hell yeah brother! Love the vid and cannot WAIT to see what you do in 2024! Keep crushing it man!
Man I love all your videos, especially the "dry" deep dives into..
Whatever really. More blackboard theory!
Love the video, love the channel, love the podcast. You are singularly the reason I got back into the hobby after stumbling across the channel a few years back so couldn’t be more grateful. Keep up the great work and hope you know how much joy, laughter, education and top quality content you bring to the community.
Currently suffering from an awful sore throat and watching you do the metal growl for the outro caused me physical pain. Good work!
Eons of battle is indeed great. Jay seems so genuinely enthusiastic about everything he does on the show.
Personally, can't stand the guy.
Jay is awesome. Some of his cheesy jokes really make me laugh.
I really feel like this last year was some of your highest quality content
You're always my hobby hero, Scoot Waters. Been a privilege to watch you grow on this platform while I grow as a shitty painter in my own right.
Thank you for answering my question Scott! You have always been a big inspiration for me on TH-cam, and in our hobby! I hope to get the chance to meet you at Adepticon this year!
Scott, you are doing great. Keep following your muse.
Thanks for your years of service.
I like these year-end videos every time.
Cheers.
Dude you keep having fun making videos and we will keep having fun watching them.
I like that this comes out every year!!
Really resonating with the segment on negative comments. I deal with this in my own work every day. So glad to see you rolling with the punches and having fun with it. Keep on keeping on, man 👊🏼
I’m glad to hear it sounds like you’re going back to your roots and going to bring 2024 with a bang! Here for it ❤️🙌
Hey Scott! I really appreciate your hard work to constantly create content for us, I've been a fan for years now and it was great getting to meet you at Adepticon 2023. I'm excited to see what this year will bring. Keep doing what you're doing!
great videos last year, really appreciate it
I very rarely comment, but I had to say I enjoy watching whatever you make.
Appreciate your channel over the years. Thanks for a look behind the scenes 👍
oh Scott, I love you just the way you are. watching your growth is honestly dope. don't ever change
No idea how you put yourself through reading those comments but it certainly helped me to realise that I’m not the only person who sees much of humanity as insane. Love your work. Looking forward to seeing more. Thank you.
Can't believe another year is over already. Thanks for all your hard work Scott, you're an inspiration to us all!
