If anyone has read in any of KAREEM'S autobiography books, KAREEM mentioned that he was so overwhelmed, overjoyed, & excited with happiness over MAGIC'S great feat & performance, & the fact that there's was no game 7, that he had to hobble into his backyard and YELL OUT LOUD ENTHUSIASTICALLY!

I've always said Kareem deserved that mvp in the finals without question. If you look at his numbers for that series he was unbelievable. It was probably the best playoff series he ever played

You can say that for 1982 as well. But there’s really no denying 87 was truly Magic’s MVP. Then when Worthy got it in 88, he said he would’ve voted for Magic. That’s just who they were. They wanted to win first.

I love how everyone portrayed in “Winning Time” is so offended at the show and how they were portrayed

Kareem was absolutely robbed in 1980. The media didn’t like kareem because he was a black Muslim and extremely introverted and shy, but he was the most dominant player for the entire 1970s and it wasn’t close. So when Magic, who was charismatic and friendly and charming, had that amazing game in the 1980 finals, of course the media gave him finals MVP.
Meanwhile, kareem averaged 34-14 and 5 blocks per game. But magic made basketball fun for kareem again. So I don’t think he was jealous.

I'm not sure KAREEM robbed magic in 1985, after the infamous "memorial day massacre " KAREEM was on some 30 & 15 type numbers the rest of that series! People slept on worthy as well who was unbelievable in that series, & imo would have been mvp of the 84 finals had we not given that series to boston!

In 1988 nba final James worthy nemed the final mvp because of Game 7 but Magic was better Player all series in 1980 final Magic was named the final MVP because of the magical Game 6 Like worthy

I personally think that was well deserved for Worthy especially if you look at his numbers. Magic's numbers were down compared to prior Finals appearances as he likely faded down the stretch. The had gone the distance in 2 prior playoff series vs Utah and Dallas, had the flu before game 3 and that probably took a toll on his stamina.

@exiledknight3961 Stop it. Kareem's 1985 Finals MVP was UNANIMOUS. Magic's only "impact" on the 1985 Finals was that he wasn't turning the ball over and choking by clanging free throws like he was in the 1984 Finals. The driving forces for the Lakers in the 1985 NBA Finals were Kareem and Head Coach Pat Riley. Magic's '80 and '82 Finals MVPs were dubious decisions based on one or two writers with a personal vendetta against Kareem. The 1980 robbery is well-documented. Bill Livingston admitted in 1989, he was one of the two writers who changed his vote because CBS Sports pleaded with them to do it. So Magic won by a 4-3 vote. The 1982 Finals MVP was an absolute joke. Kareem and Bob McAdoo had better series than Magic. Plus, Jamaal Wlikes led all Lakers with 27 points in the closeout Game 6 and Norm Nixon led the team in scoring and assists for the series.

Nah Kareem single-handedly destroyed the Celtics in 85. He was a 35-15 (and like 4 blocks) machine.

@@exiledknight3961 Name some Lakers who said Kareem didn't deserve the 1985 Finals MVP "at the time," numbskull.
