I need to make this quilt because it reminds me of my Mother. She was born on October 3, 1924 and her name was Mildred. Her nickname was "Millie". I know she would have loved this quilt, and I have the perfect fabric for it. My Mom passed away on Sept. 8, 2012 and I miss her very much! Thank you for sharing this tutorial with us, Natalie!

    • @HRHDMKYT

Maybe it’s the presser foot pressure? There may be a way of making it press down a bit more than it does now, so the fabric isn’t quite so loose under it. I don’t know if this can be adjusted on all types of sewing machines, but it might be worth asking the next time you take it in for servicing.

This fabric is absolutely gorgeous Natalie. Such intense colour! This quilt looks harder than it is to make (my favourite kind of quilt), and has great visual impact especially when you love the fabric because you don’t lose much of the prints. It could look completely different if you play around with HST placement (say, making sure that each square-in-a-square shape uses the same colour HST’s would make it look less scrappy. Or instead, leave it as is, but snowball the 16 centre white/background HSTs with the leftover 6 layer cake squares cut into 2.5” squares). There are several possibilities. Thanks for the inspiration!❤

Great job! I have always wondered how the little sashing was done. I love the fabrics and the beautiful backing too!
