My sister has the same at the moment I hope every day that I wake up and that this is just a nightmare. But no it's not. I hope she will be fine😔 (sorry for my bad English I'm from Switzerland)
I've been researching about sepsis. I work in the ED and almost everyday we get someone with Sepsis. I just want a better understanding. Thank you for the video.
My dad died of Sepsis 15 days back. He was 90. He was complaining of fever and breathlessness on a Saturday and died 4 days after. The Death certificate mentioned Sepsis as one of the causes for death. Sad, that I did not know about this.
I'm lucky i'm still here. I remember one day I caught sepsis, and I thought to myself that there was no hope. That I was just die, and it was no use. I was wrong. I'm still happy, and i'm thankful i am still here.
My aunt got influenza and strep a infection. That strep a infection turned into septic shock. Fast forward 3 months she got her legs amputated and most of her fingers amputated. We prayed And she survived. Shes doing so well now.
I survived sepsis. Told I had an hour window before death. Spent 10 days intensive care and then many days in the hospital. RESULTS included heart issues, kidney shutdown and gall bladder surgery. I owe my life to our local hospital which zcted quickly to get me life saving help at a larger hospital.
I had sepsis in 2014 and again in 2022, following a double mastectomy. It started creeping in about 6 days post op. For three weeks I begged 3 different doctors, 2 of them surgeons , to test my blood for bacterial infection. I had gone to my plastic surgeon for my weekly saline injection into my chest expander, the morning of my crisis. Again, I asked for testing. He ridiculed me about "wanting to be him." That night I awoke around 12 am with a fever of 102.8 F, low pulse o2, confusion, and severe uncontrollable vomiting. By 3am, I was in the ER on enough vancomycin to kill a bull elephant. Six days in hospital and months of recovery. I wrote complaints and ethics violation complaints, but all that happened was that the hospital started altering records of communication that I had with doctors leading up to my crisis. I wanted to sue, but couldn't find an attorney interested in an "infection case." I may publish something, but I just don't have the energy right now.
What a horrible experience for you. And to think that none of your doctors would agree to a simple blood test which would have detected the Sepsis early on!? My sister in laws sister is in the hospital right now with Severe Sepsis. Her buttocks and her breasts have actually turned dark purple. Her surgeon said she might not survive the surgery to try and remove dead tissue and flush infection. Well, she did survive the surgery, but her doctor told the family that it is touch and go right now, and that she could still easily die at any time. What a Nightmare!!!
our child just had sepsis, first doctor missed it ,then the next day he was fine picking new toys one minute,20 minutes later in the back of the car shaking, taking strange and lips turning blue holding breath,we took him straight to hospital, initial temp 40.4,then 40.9 before it came down, nearly sent home untill we reitirated hed held his breath for around 5 seconds at a time while lips went blue, luckily further tests were done and we were transferd to another hospital where a doctor did a more thorough examination and noticed tiny pinhead sized none blanching pin prick spots on his back(non fading) and straight away put him on antibiotics through a canula, were so gratefull that happend as he wouldnt be here right now, after blood culchers it turned out it was likely to be blue cheese that wed let him taste a few days earlier, please be carefull
this video is 100% true all the symptoms hes saying you might get are right. i had this 1year ago and im very lucky to of suvivied it. i thank my family who found me in a bad state in my bedroom doing stuff and saying stuff that i normaly wouldnt say, they say i was pointing to the floor saying my trowsers are there when infact they are not this is how they knew something was wrong. i would also like to thank the middlesbrough south tees hospital for helping me get through this sepsis without them i would not be here today. all i can remember that night when my brother found me was i was watching a movie and after that i went to bed. when i woke up i was in hospital with needles and my family crying at my side. i do not recall my brother finding me or my treatment up to me waking up 2 days later... all i recall is the movie.and then going to bed. if you find anyone with these symptoms get them help fast.

@@jamesarthur8973 I think sepsis can start from virtually any origin of infection but UTI's can turn into sepsis. Its more likely in people with additional underlying illnesses, but sepsis can also happen to young otherwise healthy people in some instances. (caveat - I am not a medical doctor, but have a PhD in infectious diseases)
I never developed sepsis but I did experience covid 19 january 2022. I thought it was flu cause taste smell wasn't gone and still breathe but had maximum fever 102.2f, chills, sweats, mild hullicination once, body temperature elevated 97F - 102F, fatigue, severe sore throat, pain swallow worse than tonsilitis but tonsils was not infected, headache, and cough. Was put on 2 antibiotics include 5 treatment, 875mg amoxicillin with 1 refill, vitamins, zinc and 7 day steroids. Then later I experience loss taste smell, mild kneck stiff move up and down and brain fog. Only time I would ever thought something serious if fever goes too high and maximum was 102.2 it was bit struggle to get treatment cause of weather was about to act with winter storms but we made it to clinic for treatment. I know if I could not get there I would had to get ambulance and have iv bags of antibiotics, infusion, steroids and vitamins zinc. I had strep too. I'm glad I didn't went sepsis.
Went to the ER Feb 8 they said my wife had the flu. Send us back home . Next morning my wife started getting all of this symptoms. Call 911. Got there an hour later they told me my wife was going to die. And she did. 😔💔 now I'm left on this world only with my two kids, 2y 6y my wife was only 27. Everything happened so fast. Feb 9 Feb 16 2018. RIP MY LOVE. I will see you up in heaven one day. ❤Kaboom_kaboom ❤
I'm so sorry for ur lost my God be with ur children & ur family Lord Jesus please cover him, his children, & their family under ur blood please my Lord smh I really feel for u guy & hate y'all had to go thru dat
I went to the hospital because i was shivering uncontrollably, they said it was Covid and accute pancreatitis, i Was released the next night with antibiotics. MISSERABLE
I was struck down by sepsis in August this year. it was so rapid, I first started to feel achy, hot and cold, with my hands and feet freezing (in August!). within in no time I was drowsey and wanting to sleep. I started to vomit, that should have alarmed me as I haven't been sick in over 40 years, but by now I wasn't fully with it but no one realised how I'll I was until I passed out. This was lucky for me because I would have probably gone to sleep and not woken up because my blood pressure had dropped and my internal organs were packing in. My husband called for the paramedics and luckily they quickly realised what was wrong. I was rushed into high dependency then into Intensive Care at the BRI at Bristol. By now I had lost use in my hands and legs, I thought I was going to be paralysed. I had to undergo a hideous procedure whereby they cut into my neck and pushed two lines into my heart. But it saved me together with the correct antibiotics. I can honestly say I have never felt so Ill and I did realise I was very close to death and remember thinking "gosh I didn't think it was going to end like this, and all in under 24 hours". The care I received was second to none and I and my family will be forever grateful for that the team at the BRI did for me. Its December now and I have recovered so very well; I have my days of reflection but luckily I have not suffered depression which is very common when someone has had a near death episode. I was so weak for sometime but my energy levels are coming back and I am so grateful. I do still get absolutely drained, usually when I least expect it! Also concentration and memory have suffered but they are getting better and if that's all I have to worry about I can live with that! I didn't lose any limbs and I am almost back to my old self. Please, please take notice of what SEPSIS means, what each letter stands for, it may save your or someone you know from dying or from life changing effects. S for severe shortness of breath E for extremely cold hands and feet P for palpitations S for slurred speech I for I have never felt so bad S for shivering uncontrollably I sincerely hope you never have to go through this but a word of advice if you start feeling ill with flu symptoms that progress to any of the above DON'T RING YOUR GP, call the paramedics or get someone to get you to A and E, every hour counts and the sooner you start having the right medication the better chance you have. Thank you again to the BRI, BRISTOL.
It's good that you tell your story, but describing the painful procedures that you had to undergo may put people off seeking help early. I am currently looking at my swollen knee and contemplating yet another admission to hospital for treatment of sepsis (this will be my third relapse in 9 months) I am monitoring my temperature which is raised (37.8) but I'd do anything not to go back in. I fear my state of mind is suffering now, god knows how people deal with long term conditions. I'm waffling now, I'm glad your all well after your experience with this scary condition.
The onset of bacterial sepsis is astonishing. It comes it seems out of nowhere and the symptoms abbreviated to the word sepsis are wholly appropriate. There are other forms of sepsis such as neutropenic with chemotherapy often a cause. I have had both. I was hospitalised for 3 weeks with neutropenic sepsis but felt much more ill with bacterial sepsis. In this time of covid and the pressure on the NHS it would have been easy to have left it, putting it down to a passing infection. Thankfully working for a doctor I was told to call the emergency services at once and within two hours I was in hospital hooked up to intravenous antibiotics which could well have saved my life.
I had neuropenic sepsis from aggressive chemotherapy. Trust and believe that I felt Very Sick. Yes, it truly felt like I might actually die!! Never ever been so sick in my Entire life! #UGH😨
Actually, I think I have this- the feeling of being ' drunk' is one great thing, I like it. Everything else ,I hate, : being ignored by doctors, getting fobbed off. Being in pain is awful
My family members biggest symptom was ‘back pain’ that increases over several weeks. He had a cut on his arm that became infected. He didn’t make the association until it was very late.
Three years ago I felt very ill I was vomiting continually I became confused my palor deathly white my husband dialled 999 the ambulance arrived quickly I have no recollection of the trip in the ambulance or the next five days till I woke up in high dependency I am very lucky I was diagnosed and treated for sepsis and the only thing I am left with is are holes in what was a good memory it proves that early diagnosis is paramount.
Had sepsis year and half ago , thought I had the flu but more dramatic, my body came out in a rash similar to meningitis was covered in it , spent two weeks in hospital , I’m recovered now but don’t feel I will ever be a 100% , people often say when they feel unwell (I feel like dying) only when you have had sepsis is this the truth.
I thought I had the flu! The first A&E doctor missed the signs for sepsis and sent me home. If I hadn't gone back I would have died from pneumonia and sepsis! I remember being totally drenched in sweat yet feeling freezing cold all at the same time and the colours of my room had turned grey - looking back these were clear markers that it wasn't 'just the flu'!!!
I’m a sepsis survivor…with all I’ve went thru & still going thru.. I feel like the aftermath of a great storm… I’ve lost no limbs.. thank God… but still getting so sick at times unable to move off my couch but drs saying they can’t find anything wrong…so weak at times with slurred speech… I’ve read that the drs can give an antibiotic that will prevent reoccurring infections ( I get UTI’s a lot & pneumonia)… I guess you have to ask for it cause I haven’t got it yet….
when I woke up after being in ICU the dr was standing by my bed & said “you almost died”……(it’s so difficult to know when to go to the dr… the lastto nights when I got up from sitting .. I couldn’t stand … my legs just collapsed under me)
I developed sepsis from my emergency Csection on top of that I was on the final stage I couldn’t breath on my own I had Hematoma also because my doctor didn’t stitch me right.
Last Friday I just felt off. I started shivering a lot. I decided to take a hot shower and go to bed. I was under the covers, shaking and shivering for hours. My husband got in late from work and I was in and out of consciousness. I woke up in the middle of the night ad started vomiting. I couldn't put thoughts together. My brain felt confused. My husband took me to the ER which thankfully is a mile from our house. My temperature was 104. I was so completely out of it. I had a diagnosis within the first 30 minutes and I was started on antibiotics and fluids right away. Turns out I had cellulitis on my left leg which led to sepsis. I thought I was going to die.
My mother diagnosed with cancer after one year they treated cancer 100% but later after one moth she diagnosed with rvf(racto veginal fistula) the did bypass robotic surgery during surgery she got infected to sepsis after 7 days of antibiotics they shifted to the normal ward they were about to discharge but that early morning they noticed urine aoutput is 0 they shifted her again to the icu now creatinine is 4.1 she is on dialysis no antibiotics working on the infection dr Sid anything could happen be ready what shoud i do😭😭
I am so sorry. My mother passed away from sepsis. She went into the hospital on Jan 27,2020 with sepsis in her foot. The podiatrist did surgery on Friday and left the wound open over the weekend so it could heal. Monday when he came and saw her at hospital said it was looking very good and she was on IVs for sepsis. Then an issue came up about her gi system. So the stomach Dr came and talked to me and my 2 sisters and said if she does not have this surgery she will die and her sepsis was supposedly gone. The problem came because all 3 of us (my mother's daughters ) lived in different states. And on Jan 27,2020 my older sister received a phone call that my father when he woke up started vomiting. My parents were divorced. The care taker called his primary physician and he said to get an ambulance. My father had a severe brain hemorrhage. And on the same day my mother developed sepsis. Both of our parents were in different hospitals in ICU. My older sister flew to Knoxville TN and my little sister who lived in Myrtle beach drove to Fayetteville NC to get me and drive to Knoxville. We were in complete shock. A day that we will never forget. My father was at UT hospital in the Neurology ICU and he was a like a vegetable. He could see us but could not talk or anything. My mother had surgery in her foot where the sepsis came from. A few days later the Doctor at UT hospital told us that:our father would more than likely be this way (97 percent sure). We knew daddy would not like to live like this in a nursing home and a vegetable so we had him taken off life support he passed on Feb 2,2020. His burial service was for Thursday. Now back to my mother. She seemed to be doing great. Her foot looked alit better. Then all the sudden a doctor discussed to us about her stomach being swollen and that she needed surgery and if not she will die (Wed). My mother agreed for the surgery. But she kept complaining that her back was killing her and she needed meds. They did at 1st have her in a low dose of morphine and then down to Percocet. Her surgery was for Thursday the day we were burying our father. There was a 50/50 chance our mother would survive. After the funeral services we had to drive to nomas hospital. She made it. She now had one of those bags. The hospital decided she could now go to therapy/rehab that was adjoined (Tennova North Knoxville TN) and therapy was Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic) which was connected. The Dr told us we could go back to our homes and she will be fine. Her only living relative was her brother and she was there alot. Anyway, 2 or 3 days later she went down hill. Could never do therapy because her back was killing her. She then list most of her hearing and then she was delicious. I went to Knoxville 1st week of March 2020. I was appalled. Before I even got off the elevator to her floor I could here her screaming in pain. It went on and on. I could not have a conversation with her because of pain. And I had to put my lips to her ear so she could hear me. My uncle was there every day for at least 10 hrs . Never did he see 1 Dr. I talked to her nurse and she said we are giving her a tramadol every 6 hrs. I told her don't bother with tramadol. I explained to her that my mother was running a fever and low BP and was disoriented and confused and was loosing her hearing and her back was killing her. She never left rehab room to be put back in ICU hospital. They never took her out of the room for MRI X-rays nothing. They waited about 2 1/2 weeks and started giving her antibiotic iv for sepsis. The sepsis was in her spine. If they had took action immediately this would not happened. She died. I want to sue the hospital and KOC so bad. But we all live in different states. So we lost both our parents in almost 2 months. Never ever go to Tennova North Knoxville TN. U can check in but u will never check out. This could and should have been prevented. It would had be easy to sue them if one of us lived in Knoxville😢
I've had sepsis about 7 times in one year cause I had certain devices that kept me alive luckily these were reversed and I live a rather normal and much healthier life now. I still seem to fall victim to it tho. And the last time about a month and a half ago I became ill with sepsis through an unidentified infection. It progressed so fast It's frightening. They put me on wide dosages of antibiotics and that helped on average I spend on the bare minimum 2 weeks in the hospital. Ive needed a few times when this happened a vasopressor I believe its called, well it was a drug given intravenously in my case for several days to keep my heart in check cause my pulse dropped to a dangerous low. At this point I've experienced so many different symptoms, but I was just wondering about the atrocious pain that I feel sometimes where it gets so bad that I could barely move I have a high pain tolerance usually so for me to say it was unbearable def shows a lot. So I wanted to state that I do have a lot of hardware put in, do you think that I could be extra sensitive to pain when I get Sepsis due to the hardware ? Cause all my bones and areas with hardware hurts unbearably. Btw all this started with an attack I sustained as a pedestrian crossing the street, I have been fighting for years had too many surgeries but at last I'm lucky enough to be able to see an end and new begginings health wise. I know there's not much to do to prevent Sepsis other than being careful to not get an infection but if there's any other advice on what I can do to prevent this I would really really appreciate anyone's help. Overall I have a pretty good understanding of how to fight it but of course I'd march my ass to a hospital asap if I were to contract it again.
One evening a few weeks ago I felt like I had to throw up. I wasn't nauseated at all. I was sitting on my bed, and thankfully I had a few of those blue spit up bags close. I barfed about 6 times. Still no nausea. Slept well for about 6 hours. I knew my neck had been painful for at least 2 weeks. Next thing I know, I was in the hospital. I don't remember h ow I got there. I was told my husband called my sister and she took me to the HOSPITAL AND ADMITTED. I was told I had a fever of 103. I still didn't feel sick. The doctor came in to tell me I had the flu....I had the flu vaccine several weeks earlier. I was in over night and sent home the next afternoon. No feeling sick at all. I had a bad week the last week May 2017. In hospital 7 days and 'they" didn't think I'd make it. I had sepsis through out my entire body...kidneys, heart, lungs..everywhere. I didn't realize how sick I was. That was about 8 months ago...?What next?
I'm about to go to the hospital I've had sepsis 4 times already in life I'm only 35 I have really bad problems with my pancreas but all I know is one time I didn't have a fever and had it..I'm feeling really bad right now very bad pains in my legs, arms, belly, and back feels alot like I did once before but I also hurt alot anyways so I can take pain
My Son was very ill when he had his liver transplant and had heart and organ failure after his surgery so they put him on a ecmo machine which kept him alive which I guess was from sepsis but he was in ICU for 3 months and was very ill thru it all and got sepsis again and passed away. I hope your nephew recovers ok. Sepsis is a very bad sickness. If I can answer any other question just let me know as I would be glad to answer the best I can. Your nephew is in my prayers.
I am so sorry and your nephew is so young. My Son Keith was 52, married with a 10 year old son. Is your nephew having a liver transplant tomorrow. Am I understanding correctly does your nephew have sepsis now? You can message me on FB messages if you would like to request me. Please let me know how your nephew makes out tomorrow. I am very upset about my Son as we never expected this all to happen to him. God please be with your nephew tomorrow.
I had the beginnings of it but they got me treatment right away because I told them that’s what I thought it was. I was in the hospital three days. I’m still kind of weak but I’m a little better every day.

That night I awoke around 12 am with a fever of 102.8 F, low pulse o2, confusion, and severe uncontrollable vomiting.
What a Nightmare!!!
i lived thru sepsis, and i am glad to be alive now
our child just had sepsis, first doctor missed it ,then the next day he was fine picking new toys one minute,20 minutes later in the back of the car shaking, taking strange and lips turning blue holding breath,we took him straight to hospital, initial temp 40.4,then 40.9 before it came down, nearly sent home untill we reitirated hed held his breath for around 5 seconds at a time while lips went blue, luckily further tests were done and we were transferd to another hospital where a doctor did a more thorough examination and noticed tiny pinhead sized none blanching pin prick spots on his back(non fading) and straight away put him on antibiotics through a canula, were so gratefull that happend as he wouldnt be here right now, after blood culchers it turned out it was likely to be blue cheese that wed let him taste a few days earlier, please be carefull
So glad he was OK. ❤️
this video is 100% true all the symptoms hes saying you might get are right. i had this 1year ago and im very lucky to of suvivied it. i thank my family who found me in a bad state in my bedroom doing stuff and saying stuff that i normaly wouldnt say, they say i was pointing to the floor saying my trowsers are there when infact they are not this is how they knew something was wrong. i would also like to thank the middlesbrough south tees hospital for helping me get through this sepsis without them i would not be here today. all i can remember that night when my brother found me was i was watching a movie and after that i went to bed. when i woke up i was in hospital with needles and my family crying at my side. i do not recall my brother finding me or my treatment up to me waking up 2 days later... all i recall is the movie.and then going to bed. if you find anyone with these symptoms get them help fast.
Redstar2k3 I feel your pain. I too had sepsis. A year ago, I was feeling sick. I went to the hospital and the doctor said I had a kidney infection. I went home and took my antibiotics. After a few days I felt better so I stupidly stopped the antibiotics.
A couple days later I was violently ill. Slept on the couch for a couple days. Just shivering constantly. I had heart palpitations as well. My friend came home and put me to bed. That night I had to army crawl to the bathroom. I was so out of it, that it didn't even strike me as odd when my legs no longer worked.
I just remember taking a lot of hot baths because of the chills and body aches. My friend came home the next day and picked me up and threw me into the car. I remember nothing after that.
Next thing I know I woke up in a hospital, they told me they needed to Intubate me. Then, lights out. Next thing I know, I'm in a different hospital. I was airlifted there they told me. I was on life support, kidney dialysis, and had all sorts of tubes and wires on and in me.
I was in and out of consciousness, and when I woke a couple weeks later, the doctors told me I was airlifted again, to a hospital 300 miles away.
I was put into a medically induced coma. I awoke 5 weeks later. When I woke up, I no longer had a tube in my mouth, but instead it was inserted into a tracheotostomy. I couldn't talk, or walk, or eat, or even write.
After relearning to do all the above, and several weeks of rehabilitation, I was released.
All in all, I had complete septic shock, multi-system organ failure, respiratory failure, heart failure, pneumonia and endocarditis (infection of the heart).
Sepsis is no joke! Glad to be alive!
Valerie Smith how is your life now after surviving? Do you still experience suffering?
@@V-Smith Can this happen to someone who has Kidney stones with Urinary Tract Infection?
Call 911.
S for severe shortness of breath
E for extremely cold hands and feet
P for palpitations
S for slurred speech
I for I have never felt so bad
S for shivering uncontrollably
I sincerely hope you never have to go through this but a word of advice if you start feeling ill with flu symptoms that progress to any of the above DON'T RING YOUR GP, call the paramedics or get someone to get you to A and E, every hour counts and the sooner you start having the right medication the better chance you have.
Thank you again to the BRI, BRISTOL.
I think I might have this.
Feels like Im goin crazy...racing heart.
I dont have some of these symptoms though.
I know its not the flu.
Thanks for writing this Linda - I am so glad you recovered OK.
I'm waffling now, I'm glad your all well after your experience with this scary condition.
demonkey123 I hope your feeling better, stay strong and fight fight fight. I have faith in you, I'll pray that you feel better soon.

Did you ever figure out what's wrong?
My family members biggest symptom was ‘back pain’ that increases over several weeks. He had a cut on his arm that became infected. He didn’t make the association until it was very late.
i've had a uti i didn't know about for 2 months! ONLY found out i had it by visit to the e.r two nights ago!!!!
One week after having Chemo I would end up at the ER as Dr. worried about Sepsis. Vancomycin always started.
Could you tell me what the rash looked like I had a rash for months didn't really take much notice untill it started to spread scared quite alot
I pray a lot… don’t know what I would without faith in God
when I woke up after being in ICU the dr was standing by my bed & said “you almost died”……(it’s so difficult to know when to go to the dr… the lastto nights when I got up from sitting .. I couldn’t stand … my legs just collapsed under me)
Are you ok? Hope you have made a recovery
survived it twice now looking for a surgeon thats brace enough to do one last surgery
I developed sepsis from my emergency Csection on top of that I was on the final stage I couldn’t breath on my own I had Hematoma also because my doctor didn’t stitch me right.
I got it when I was a baby I'm very lucky to have survived at my age of 27 weeks old
That IS amazing!
How did you get cellulitis ??:(

Thank you. I sure wish I could shut them down
How long can you have sepsis without knowing?
I dont think that long its the infection that causes it that you might have without knowing you have a infection
Had a family member die of septis. Its a horrible experience
Sorry to hear this. It's why we try to raise awareness.
Thank you for this. Very helpful.
You're welcome I'm glad it's helpful.
Can't get my wife to understand it.
