this show was as real as it could have been! the editing might be to blame to create drama. but the selection process like the ultimate blind tasting was solid! i felt that Edward Lee should have been the winner though- he created something new every time and unheard of. specially during his Infinite cooking hell session despite being jet lagged. and arriving just hours before that episode filming in Korea. he actually created a full 5-6 course meal with Tofu maintaining sequence like soup as a starter and all, finishing with a desert.

Finished watching this yesterday and in my mind Edward lee is the real winner. Spaghetti dude would never have lasted in the tofu hell challange(which really should have been the grand finale)
Actually, the white spoon chef who voted out from original team(not two people who wanted to leave) said it was a bit unfair rule for himself for real. So, personally i don't like how they made restaurant mission. I think 4 teams by 4 people would be more fair. That three chefs were one of my favorites. I should've been more fair.
I agree that he's one of the best chefs in the culinary class war. However, in terms of taste during the final mission, I don't think his dessert can compete with a main dish the judges described as a 'full-course meal.' They said the 'Napoli Mafia' dish perfectly delivered all the components in one meal. The final theme was about putting 'your name' on the line, which felt like a way of showcasing the best dish-similar to the first episode, but with added meaning, making it more special and even poetic. Still, I agree with the sentiment that the finale could have been better. A three-dish contest would have been a more fitting way to determine the winner.
if that Napoli mafia guy really wanted to make a dish that had to do with his personality ... he should have overcooked something.. or let something burn.. would have totally been in line with his overblown attitude towards others.
Why use exclamation mark for a period? Just kidding. LoL. I agree with you, I do like Edward Lee to win but that's the way it is. I think Maftia is also a great Chef.
I agree but Chef Lee already has name on industry that's why they pick the black spoon to be the winner. But big round of applause for chef Lee his creativeness is really awesome
did you taste it? would you eat a dessert first before an entre and appetizer? edward leejust wanted to showcase his talents, he even defended napoli matfia because all you children are throwing tantrums
Chef EL should have won. His dessert using tteokbokki concept was original and after watching him Kill IT on all the tofu dishes, it was shocking that he lost against a chef that used truffle, morel mushrooms, a 30yr bottle of barolo to flavor the sauce for the pistacho crusted lamb. That was not impressive at all. Anyone can make a dish taste delicious using the most expensive ingredients. The pasta was the only item that stood out in that dish. I was disappointed with the judges on selecting an unoriginal dish as the winner
The coin purse pasta also closely resembled the trash bag pasta from the first episode. I think the show puts a lot of weight on the stories behind the dishes - see the way that California Galbi got trashed in judging from preliminary round. With the final round theme being “name on the line” I felt that Edward Lee had a better fitting story and theme to the final. But, it’s a show in the end, and I’m certain this has brought in a huge outpouring of love for Edward Lee and his talents. Hope all the best for the chefs on the show.
I guess all shows are slightly scripted to create more drama or attract more viewers. I’m not sure how it works, but whatever they did, they definitely did a good job. What made me think it’s really scripted is the tofu challenge where Chef Hyun Seok Choi made that dish. From the early rounds, we all know he’s smart and knows how to play the game well. It’s hard to believe he chose that dish when he knew it would overpower the tofu. Overall, it was still very enjoyable and fair. I’m happy with the result!
Yup agree, imo it's slightly scripted but not to the point where it'll hugely affecting the show and make it as "fake". Most of the drama on this show is done by editing, not by a script. But I think there's no advantage for chef Choi to agree to cook a dish that'll be eliminated?
@@kaizenwhiz maybe the white spoon chefs were really just meant to be guests (paid per appearance/ episode). He was so smart during the other rounds esp his resto pricing strategy. The tofu dish was just too obvious. Noticed how he kept saying “I’m so disorganized” and the way he described the dish by highlighting the other ingredients overshadowing the tofu. As if he knew it was already bound to happen. But we will never know. Still happy with how the show turned out til the end. 🙌🏻💯
@@Kkggss1987 Hmm yeah you have a point. But I think if he was "destined" to be eliminated, then it'll be much more exciting for the show if he made that "mistake" on round 4 or 5, when it's the battle between him vs Edward vs triple star.
@@Kkggss1987 I find it strange that they kicked off 2 of the most talented chefs back to back. Chef Edward is also a good chef, but the way the judges kept talking about him and his dishes during the season finale was suspicious. Otherwise, I loved the show.
They literally gave the guy who only knows how to cook pasta a pass on the tofu challenge... and made him champ. It was dumb asf. Napoli Mafia wouldn't survive the infinite cooking hell. He makes tofu pasta, tofu ravioli, tofu risotto then gets a brain aneurysm from not knowing anything else.
I don't think that guy will pass the challenge in show like Masterchef Australia, where contestant have to cook food out of their comfort zone and from weird ingredients.
Best show and good format but the only problem is the restaurant format is so disgustingly unfair when 3 got kicked. Should have make the price static like 40k won each and make dish and see who got more sales is better
to be honest edward lee shouldve been the winner . BUT these shows are already biased cause . They cant let a white spoon chef win cause theyre famous and succesful already . They created this for a black chef to win cause in these shows they will always choose and will be biased with the underdogs
Ed Lee had to overcome jet-lags and energy sapping hell rounds just to get to the final .... And he maintains that humility and respectful manners throughout, he really is the real deal all round...
Lee Kyun should have won the contest! He brought ingenuity, creativity and finesse to his dishes. Every trained chef can cook a rack of lamb but not everyone would have thought of making a dish like Lee Kyun served as his final dish.
For me everything was predictable... Every round black and white spoons will be even... I even guessed for the final round there will be white and black spoon...and I also thought black spoon will win 😂
Honestly predicted every winner for each round except the semi finals to create a dish that would inspire. Overall just based on how they describe their opinion about the dish and the creativity and technique level is enough to guess who will stay and who will not. Honestly don't care if it was somewhat scripted, but overall it was an interesting show and I do see that they were all cooking at a very high level as well. At one point before the finals there was 3 black spoon and 1 white spoon, ironically it was odd no one ever attempted to make a dessert out of tofu and bang someone just did coincidentally as the last dish. I can't say if it was completely scripted as based on skill wise I could easily put triple star to be on the Finals based on his composure and skills. Some of the Favorites early on the competition got eliminated as they made odd choices. Also in the early rounds why do they only pick black spoons to come back to compete like comic book chefs are purely because they saw potential and they were curious to see if they'll improve more. There are certain decisions that I was able to predict but did not expect throughout the competition that black and white would be equal in members. The only part that seems unfair was the team stage where 3 that contributed less will be removed on their previous teams to create a new one. They did not even increase their budget despite they are also very few compared to other teams who have 4 or 5 members.
They even let more losing black spoons back just to maintain an equal number from both sides to progress ... thats just obvious manipulation. It makes sense from viewership point of view to not let one side become too dominant, it also make sense to let the villain of the show (Napoli) get into the final easily with just 1 dish just to maintain tension in the finale ... villains usually go quite far in many reality shows ....
Yes. It was also funny to me, that there was always a balance between white and black spoons in a magical way. It was never more or less white and black spoons. They eliminated some white spoons just to keep it interesting after they eliminated so many black spoons at the beginning.
@@marjhungalanido1257 Oh yeah, I am so sorry, the Tiramisu and some meat. I apologize, he has incredible depth. His arrogance (probably for the show), I cannot stand that. My personal opinion.
Honestly speaking without Chef Ahn wanted chef lee out. Looking at Paik he already felt Ahn judgement is biased and sht. Yeah Chef Ahn is a great chef but not a good judge. Maybe he should try joining also 😂😂😂. Bet what he made for them during break time wasn't even that great.
the restaurant challenge i feel like self made’s team lost mainly because of their pricing. IIRC their dishes were all pretty cheap, and the their shrimp dish i think was really famous. like edward lee’s team’s steak was probably double or 1.5x more expensive than any of their dishes. Honestly i would’ve preferred if they brought back eliminated chefs instead of the kicking out members thing
Its curious how chef ahn says "edward lee dish was semi-perfect" with all his unumaginable creativity to make a really good dish, this show for me is a fuckng joke, edward lee is the true winner of this!
I noticed the intent to keep the numbers even, too! One round is fine but for all rounds to be perfectly even? (except when they were down to 15 ofc) It made me question if it was all coincidence.
Chef E deserve to win!!!!!’He took it to next level even incorporating a touch of Korean in every dish. Amongst the contestant he is the only who did that. Finale was such a joke!!!!! Episode 11 was way better.
I had a feeling they let a local Korean national won this competition because this was a battle of the best chef in "Korea". Any foreigner winning this competition is a slap on their face, telling people that the best Korean chef is an "American" - Ain't gonna happen. I was cheering for Chef Edward Lee to win but I knew they were going to pull something like this to leave an impression that the winner is a local Korean chef. Imagine a Korean beating someone who won Iron Chef? I think the best way to determine who the best chef is was to do the Infinite cooking hell. The final battle was just lame.
It is so obvious that the show was partially orchestrated to have both white and black spoons until the end ! Just like any korean game show, and that's okay !
I really think Edward Lee should have won, but the more I watch korean reality TV shows (which are great) I realise koreans, and korean producers may not be ready for a 'non Korean' to win.
Creativity and flavour wise, the judges would always pick EL. But they choose the winner based on the theme of the challenge and I believe Mafia deserves the win for final round. But to be called the greatest chef in that show, for me, hands down it’s Edward Lee.

I mean of course they'd have to rig the show a little bit to make it more equal on both black spoins and white spoons sides. Why would they make a show where there are only white spoons who already have a name for themselves-. You could argue they could have more black spoons but then it would also be less exciting since its a bunch of people we have to keep referring to as "triple star" or "cooking maniac" etc. etc. I do have a question. In the first episode did they not split the 80 black spoons into 2 groups of 40? Did they only show one of the groups and just not aired tbe second one? Or was it just clipped into one episode (which im assuming is the case but the editing made it seem like only one group was allowed through)
Natpoli Matfia would never have won the hell tofu challenge let’s be real (not denying he’s definitely a good chef). However chef Edward Lee has always brought his A game and creativity in every single dish. Not one is ever the same. He’s more versatile and is so passionate and respectful of food! Nothing against Natpoli but EL should have won. IMO, it’s quite obvious from the get go that blacks or a ‘local’ Korean would win.
I knew something is fishy since the number of survivors from each team is always even in every stage. And not gonna lie, the level and standard of culinary creativity in this show is much much much less than the cooking contests like Top Chef. Eugene Lee felt really out of place here.
When asked if this was intentional, producer Kim Hak-min said, “It was decided that 22 people would advance to the third round. Super Pass was a planned device. Personally, the disappointing moment was when it became 11 to 11. Deep down, I hoped it would be different. I thought that was more realistic. The top 8 also became 4 black and 4 white, but this also had nothing to do with the production team's intentions. Rather, I felt personally disappointed,” he explained.
@@풀영상-s7x True, it was even 8:0 for the white at first .... I'm sure the producers began to worry about the huge imbalance of having the white destroying the black even before they get to the finale ... I do not for a moment believe that the blacks miraculously began to maintain equal footing for the rest of the episodes, they had help from the producers and biased judging ... even with the blind fold judging, I'm sure there are ways (which are edited out of course) for the judges to hint at which is the black one to win ...
The show should be just let 1 white chef against 80 blacks or 1 against 100. With this result and the plan for season 2, I wonder if any pro chef willing to join this show as White chefs only to be humiliated, since the scenario is to let the black chef win. They've been risking their name & restaurant, put some respect.
i definitely think there were parts were it rigged for drama like during the voting in the group round and the finals was probably rigged to make the black spoon chef win because although edward lee had a creative dish, it was only one dessert as compared to the many things napoli matfia made, why would he bank the whole final competiton on one dish without a main course..maybe he was told to do that
Unfair competition may result fair outcome for the chefs. They are all great chefs under an unfair competition, so, I will try my best to visit as many of their restaurants as possible 😅
such a lame ending I cant get over, I even had nightmares at night I feel sorry for chef Edward they clearly stole his victory. or the judges was being insecure
I don’t like the final competition. It felt so rushed and incoherent. Should the final competition set for a three course meal with entree, main and dessert like MasterChef? So the judges can have a more holistic consideration with who’s the best winner? But I guess they try not to be rhetorical same with MasterChef …
It's a cooking show... I doubt they'd go to great lengths to conspire in there but I'm sure that, like any other reality TV show, they probably pulled some strings here and there to keep things going in the direction the producers felt would be most interesting. Is it fair? Probably not. I honestly doubt the guy who won is really the best chef among the 100's we saw compete. But I don't think anyone who participates in that kind of show really expects that it's going to be perfectly fair like a sanctioned athletic competition would be. It's mostly a promotional tool for the participants. I think they could've just avoided some of the controversy by being more transparent. For instance when the judges brought back participants, they could very well just have stated plainly that they were looking only at black spoons. Even if that had been only a personal choice of the judges. I would've seen nothing wrong with them saying they would consider only black spoon given that they want to give them more exposure, or that they're being less forgiving with the white spoons in early rounds given their experience.
To some degree, survival shows are scripted. For this show, they definitely tried too hard to keep the balance of black and white team. That was painfully obvious.

how is it the veterans and more experienced chefs like Chef Edward Lee had under go such brutal challenge when they proved a lot of things, Napoli Mafia should join the tofu challenge or all of them
you might say whatever you want, however, if the main judges decided for black and white and 2 blacks, they were right. and i think when you put people with limited skilled together and join on one thing as one, they can be just as good as white spoons.
Kinda like master chef where they have appetizer main course and dessert
if that Napoli mafia guy really wanted to make a dish that had to do with his personality ... he should have overcooked something.. or let something burn.. would have totally been in line with his overblown attitude towards others.
Overall it’s a good show, even chefs that not make to the top 8, their restaurant get so popular now
Chef Edward Lee should've won......period!!!!
Why use exclamation mark for a period? Just kidding. LoL. I agree with you, I do like Edward Lee to win but that's the way it is. I think Maftia is also a great Chef.
Totally agree!!!! Chef Edward proved it. Totally took it the next level. Finale was so lame.
It was a great show until the wrong winner was picked.
I agree but Chef Lee already has name on industry that's why they pick the black spoon to be the winner. But big round of applause for chef Lee his creativeness is really awesome
@@jearalyntherese1714 So you're saying it's not a fair and true judgement, but a biased one. Your statement makes the show pointless.
did you taste it? would you eat a dessert first before an entre and appetizer? edward leejust wanted to showcase his talents, he even defended napoli matfia because all you children are throwing tantrums
@@alexw5042 obviously you don't know the criteria.
@@Xerroh and you do? are you the producer? are you the judge? were you there?
@@davidchan9979 I just wonder do the judge & the producer realize that they make Italian dish as winning food for Korean cooking show. What a joke.
Exactly 😂 Truffles, Morels and Wine. Lee’s dessert is more economical and interesting.
Maybe they just wanted the show to end.
Whatever may be, I enjoyed this series tremendously. BEST cooking show out there.
Yeah they are making some drama for nothing
Chefs aren’t always perfect.
I would want to try EL finale dish. He is really creative. Unlike the pasta winner
I don't think that guy will pass the challenge in show like Masterchef Australia, where contestant have to cook food out of their comfort zone and from weird ingredients.
he got a pass for winning a challenge? why would he need to be in the loser’s bracket?
LOLL HAHAHAHA
@@88feji he maintains humility but his fans are children that cope and seethe
Lee Kyun should have won the contest! He brought ingenuity, creativity and finesse to his dishes. Every trained chef can cook a rack of lamb but not everyone would have thought of making a dish like Lee Kyun served as his final dish.
For me everything was predictable... Every round black and white spoons will be even... I even guessed for the final round there will be white and black spoon...and I also thought black spoon will win 😂
uh ok…?
Its lazy writing weww
I think edward lee deserved to win
I have no problem if they staged certain elements. The fact that you are making this video tells me this show was the bomb.

the restaurant challenge i feel like self made’s team lost mainly because of their pricing.
Staged or not I was entertained, that’s the point for me.
Its curious how chef ahn says "edward lee dish was semi-perfect" with all his unumaginable creativity to make a really good dish, this show for me is a fuckng joke, edward lee is the true winner of this!
I don’t like how they made the finale.
Koreans know how to make tv shows
The best culinary show in history. It showcases the finest moments in a cooking show.
Chef Lee should've won!
Creativity and flavour wise, the judges would always pick EL. But they choose the winner based on the theme of the challenge and I believe Mafia deserves the win for final round. But to be called the greatest chef in that show, for me, hands down it’s Edward Lee.
I wonder if Napoli Matfia would have made it pass the infinity tofu challenge :/
The final one is boring!
Chef EL should have won. NM is good but I don't appreciate the arrogance.

Exactly!
I enjoyed the whole show and the winner of the show went through so many eliminations before reaching the finale.
I think Netflix was genuinely genius, if all this shit not happen they will goes on and forgetting the show
I mean of course they'd have to rig the show a little bit to make it more equal on both black spoins and white spoons sides.
Of course, it is even. That is how many the judges select so that there can be a competition between an even number of players.

True, it was even 8:0 for the white at first ....
I'm not really care wether it scripted or not.
I think people keep forgetting that the difference between black and white chefs isn't skill diff, but rather, experience and fame diff.
i definitely think there were parts were it rigged for drama like during the voting in the group round and the finals was probably rigged to make the black spoon chef win because although edward lee had a creative dish, it was only one dessert as compared to the many things napoli matfia made, why would he bank the whole final competiton on one dish without a main course..maybe he was told to do that
Napoli would've never won the endless cooking round
They need to keep Chef Ed Lee to final.
bro, how can the person who one just be cooking only one type of food all day every day and it's just one dish for the finals
Just watched the whole thing. It was brilliant. Well organized. Judging super fair..very fair overall compared to USA crap.shows
all I see is that people like to complain too much
It's a cooking show...
This is great but the finale was underwhelming!!!
Hell's kitchen is more fun because the winner was always deserving
Final cooking only from 1 dish? Bullcrap… those two final contestants should done 3 course meals 😒😒😒
Bruh its a Korean survival show ofcourse it's scripted
Do you think usa or europe survival shows are not scripted 😂😂
To some degree, survival shows are scripted. For this show, they definitely tried too hard to keep the balance of black and white team. That was painfully obvious.
Not really. Most Korean shows are not scripted compared to American or British shows. Edward Lee said that most of it was authentic.
