It's subtle. But, the Cooke is way better. Cooke's ability to have incredible detail yet not look too sharp is unbelievable. No blow-outs and perfect depth of field.

Shhh! don't tell anyone about the SLR Magic APOs! haha. I really love my set, and since I moved to a full frame camera, seeing all of their character makes me love them even more. The 25mm on FF sensors look decently wide, and I just have a cheap Tokina RMC 17mm f3.5 as a needed ultra wide angle for when I need that effect.

Great comparison, would never have thought to compare these three sets... Very close in looks for sure in these setups - It would have been nice to see some large outdoor locations in the mix though. I think we would have revealed some character differences in the bokeh there, the Nitecores for example have some beautiful bubble bokeh! Also, the Nitecores have a long history being whitelabled and sold different brands (They've been know as the Bokehlux Primes, NISI 'F3 Primes', & Kinefinety 'Mavo Primes') untill Nitecore decided to sell them directly as the origional manufacturer. The Kinefinity website still has them on there as the 'Mavo Primes' and does state they are APO, which explains the lack of C.A.

Great video! Did you do any color grading or matching? Or are the images coming straight out of the camera (maybe only with a REC709 Lut)?

No color correction between them, but slight exposure correction. The same film emulation on all three.

Thank you so much for this comparison! I heard a lot of bad things about the original SLR magics apo cines having really bad color shift and manufacturing inconsistencies. Do you see that with the APO minis as well?

I've read about cases where the 25mm isn't matching that well with the other focal lengths, but I can't say I've noticed that with my set. I think they've gotten better and better.

I have an older set and when I did color-charting with them I wrote down my balances that I would need to make, with the 32mm being the one to match to since I use it most:
      25mm -400. -5
      32mm ---
      50mm ---
      85mm 0, +5

SLR APO's once again killed it next to the Cooke. Nitecore's look like every other generic 35mm I've ever seen.

Do you really think the Nitecore is that different from the others?

@@cnmtc4224 1:56 you said, “I won’t be renting Cook since I have these two”. You mean you can substitute Cook with them, but that’s impossible. Why would you take cheap instead of Cook otherwise? It’s just unclear message and in my opinion unnecessary and impossible comparison
