Without it she is literally a ghost constantly phasing in and out of time unable to interact her surroundings. For all we know she could have been dealing with her problem for thousands of years through her perception of time. It must have driven her crazy. Anyway the point is everybody in this game has their baggage and their own reason to fight.

And that covers backstory I believe! Also, Recall, Alive and Dragons take place on the actual maps that we play in the game. Pretty neat!

The scar from the second arrow that hit the wooden floor is there. Even the glass is broken out at Winston's hide-out, where he thrown the guy through it. The big metal gauntlet that Reaper and Widowmaker were trying to steal, shows up as a payload item.(till Doomfist came and got it that is)
You should add that the blade and the blood stains on the Banner are from Genjis and Hanzos battle, the blade is Hanzo's, after killing Genji with it he swore never again to use a blade and left it there.

One of the cool things about this game is these scenes take place in maps that you can play. This is Hanamura and even though that map type is a pain it really is beautiful.

Hanzo and Genji are some of my favorite characters, probably because I was introduced to Overwatch through them haha... I think other people probably already explained, but Genji is a cyborg so he's part human part robot? He also has a teacher who's an omnic ! I don't believe he's in any of the animated videos, but if you looked up Zenyatta from Overwatch, thats who Genji's teacher is. I don't know everything but from my understanding he helped him find peace when he became a cyborg?? I really love him too, all the characters are so good. He left the clan, effectively betraying them. Genji was rescued by Overwatch. And with the help of one Dr Angela Ziegler (Mercy), he was saved and turned into a cyborg. He then set out to dismantle his family's criminal operations. We assume, successfully. After that, he left Overwatch, his mission with them done. But he wasn't the Genji seen here, he was still at war with himself. His machine parts repulsed him. After many wanderings he eventually came across an Omnic monk, Zenyatta (one of the characters in game. Briefly seen in the Alive trailer. He has three glowing dots on his head.) With help from the monk, he was eventually able to reconcile his existence as both man and machine.

Throughout the trailers you have seen so far, we've been lead to believe that Overwatch are indeed heroes...and yet, Winston was reminded that Overwatch was disbanded and their activities deemed illegal. Makes you wonder what happened yeah, and now Genji as appeared to remind his brother of his duty, the plot thickens, LOL
Hanzo walks a path of self loathing and redemption. This makes some sense because not only did he have to kill his own little brother, but he was going to be the new head of a clan of assassins. After killing Genji in the worst way possible he left the clan out of shame and disgrace. He now wonders the world seeking redemption. Genji didn't die, but he sure was about to. Being a natural badass he held out long enough to be saved by Overwatch, got fitted with a new cyborg body, and agreed to join their ranks in order to take the shimada clan down for good, but after that he's left with the conundrum of still being a monstrosity of equal parts man and machine. He wandered the world in hopes of finding a reason to live.... Safe to say he found it and now we are brought up to speed with this thing. As for how Genji found it, well he found it in Robot Jesus. Yes. That is a thing. lol

Lemme explain the lore behind the cinematic: hanzo and genji lived a very different life in their youth( hanzo almost only trained and genji lived a playboy live) the clan's elders wanted genji to be abandoned or killed but his father sojiro kept protecting him till he died. After that the clan's elders told hanzo to kill genji (which he actually almost did) after their fight was over genji was found barely living by mercy aka Dr. Angela Ziegler (overwatch's chief medic) she told him she would heal him if he'd agree to smash the Shimada clan (because the clan is a drug dealer organisation) genji agreed. After he helped destroying the clan genji started to hate his robotic body and wandered through the world in search of peace till he met the omnic monk zenyatta. Zenyatta invited him to come to the shambali temple so he could help him finding peace with his robotic body. At first genji declined but zenyatta didn't give up till genji has made peace with himself. Zenyatta then told him he should visit his brother to make peace and to forgive him. Basically that's the story behind the cinematic. Fact : hanzo was a very good fighter with the sword (way better than genji) in their fight they both used a sword. After hanzo thought he had killed genji he swore he would never use a sword again. (the swords he kneels in front of at the beginning are his swords). Hope I helped

There is no good or bad. It was one brother telling the other that he forgives him for killing him and that he needs to forgive himself. He even though he doesn't believe in himself his brother does. People live with their sins and feel like they are bad and don't deserve good things. But time heals all and the ultimate form of forgiveness is that which you give yourself.
Everyone lost their minds when in the teaser Genji called Hanzo "brother" the reaction is on TH-cam. "Overwatch gameplay teaser" I was one of the ones that lost it too 🤗

When their father died, Hanzo was instructed by the clan to straighten out Genji, so they may rule the clan together.
Genji refused. Things got heated, and a fight broke out. It was then that Hanzo thought he killed Genji.
Hanzo, broken by what he had done, never took his father's place. He left the clan, effectively betraying them.
Genji was rescued by Overwatch. And with the help of one Dr Angela Ziegler (Mercy), he was saved and turned into a cyborg.
He then set out to dismantle his family's criminal operations. We assume, successfully. After that, he left Overwatch, his mission with them done.
But he wasn't the Genji seen here, he was still at war with himself. His machine parts repulsed him. After many wanderings he eventually came across an Omnic monk, Zenyatta (one of the characters in game. Briefly seen in the Alive trailer. He has three glowing dots on his head.)
With help from the monk, he was eventually able to reconcile his existence as both man and machine.
Also the feather is a Sparrow's feather and it represents Genji, he even has a skin in game when he wasnt a cyborg yet and the name is Sparrow.

Finally someone who noticed ginji at the beginning.
As most of the other questions have been answered, namely that Genji is with Overwatch and Hanzo his is brother. The question of good or evil though is up to the viewers interpretation. Throughout the trailers you have seen so far, we've been lead to believe that Overwatch are indeed heroes...and yet, Winston was reminded that Overwatch was disbanded and their activities deemed illegal. Makes you wonder what happened yeah, and now Genji as appeared to remind his brother of his duty, the plot thickens, LOL
For a bit more backstory Genji was called the Sparrow, hence the feather.
Hanzo walks a path of self loathing and redemption. This makes some sense because not only did he have to kill his own little brother, but he was going to be the new head of a clan of assassins. After killing Genji in the worst way possible he left the clan out of shame and disgrace. He now wonders the world seeking redemption. Genji didn't die, but he sure was about to. Being a natural badass he held out long enough to be saved by Overwatch, got fitted with a new cyborg body, and agreed to join their ranks in order to take the shimada clan down for good, but after that he's left with the conundrum of still being a monstrosity of equal parts man and machine. He wandered the world in hopes of finding a reason to live.... Safe to say he found it and now we are brought up to speed with this thing. As for how Genji found it, well he found it in Robot Jesus. Yes. That is a thing. lol

There are skins for each brother as young men. The sword in the shrine was the one Hanzo used in the duel. In his grief, he choose to not use a sword again, and soon thereafter he turned on the clan himself.
Genji is good, especially after finding his balance. Hanzo is gray, but drifting towards good.
Lemme explain the lore behind the cinematic: hanzo and genji lived a very different life in their youth( hanzo almost only trained and genji lived a playboy live) the clan's elders wanted genji to be abandoned or killed but his father sojiro kept protecting him till he died. After that the clan's elders told hanzo to kill genji (which he actually almost did) after their fight was over genji was found barely living by mercy aka Dr. Angela Ziegler (overwatch's chief medic) she told him she would heal him if he'd agree to smash the Shimada clan (because the clan is a drug dealer organisation) genji agreed. After he helped destroying the clan genji started to hate his robotic body and wandered through the world in search of peace till he met the omnic monk zenyatta. Zenyatta invited him to come to the shambali temple so he could help him finding peace with his robotic body. At first genji declined but zenyatta didn't give up till genji has made peace with himself. Zenyatta then told him he should visit his brother to make peace and to forgive him. Basically that's the story behind the cinematic.
Fact : hanzo was a very good fighter with the sword (way better than genji) in their fight they both used a sword. After hanzo thought he had killed genji he swore he would never use a sword again. (the swords he kneels in front of at the beginning are his swords).

There is no good or bad. It was one brother telling the other that he forgives him for killing him and that he needs to forgive himself. He even though he doesn't believe in himself his brother does. People live with their sins and feel like they are bad and don't deserve good things. But time heals all and the ultimate form of forgiveness is that which you give yourself.
Hanzo: Is part of a mafia-like organization and kills his own brother in cold blood.

The brothers are both good.... in way. Hanzo is the older brother to Genji. He was ordered by the head of the family, to deal with his younger brother not taking the(shady) family business seriously. A fight broke out and Hanzo killed his brother. Or so he thought. Genji was found by (still active at the time) Overwatch personal, saved by Dr. Angela Ziegler(Mercy) and was given the choice to work for them as one of their "Off the books" operatives. After Overwatch was shut down, Genji spent a long time wondering the world, disliking what he had become(a cyborg). One day he ran into one of those omnic monks. Who enlightened him to accept who he is. With Winston's recall of Overwatch operatives, he has went to seek out his older brother and tell him that he too can find purpose in a world that is changing. You seen how that went.

Both genji and hanzo used to be apart of this gang organization in Japan called the "shimada clan",one day,Hanzo and genji had a chance to become the leader of the shimada clan,Hanzo wanted Genji to become the leader,genji refused,which caused Hanzo to kill genji in a brutal battle(not this one),after that,Hanzo left the Shimada clan in grief that he has killed his own brother,but Genji didn't die,he was brutally injured,but was saved by Overwatch,they saved him and gave him the cyborg,NOT OMNIC,body,he then set on a journey to find peace for his new cypernetic body,later on,he went back to Hanamura(which is where The Shimada clan was at),and found Hanzo to to make this cinematic a thing.
There is no clear statement on who is Bad and who is good.
The tales that was read in the background was a story of their father,that basically tells the story of this cinematic too.
The feather is shown because it is a feather of a sparrow,genji had a nickname when he was still living normally with his brother,given to him by his father,which was "Sparrow".
After this,Hanzo still had grief and still tries to believe that Genji is dead.
Hanzo and Genji both have the power to control the dragons,Hanzo has the "dragon of the south",and Genji had the "dragon of the north".
Oh and Hanzo "killed" Genji with a sword,and from that day on,he sworn to never pick up a blade ever again,as it seems that he is better with a sword then Genji.
When Genji put the blade at Hanzo's neck,it reminded him about how Hanzo killed Genji,because Hanzo beheaded Genji(it's just a theory though so it isn't proven true).

Just An Average Genji Main Just one point to make, do not forget that the dragon of the south killed the dragon of the north. Hanzo "killed" Genji. Hanzo has the dragon of the south and Genji has the north. Not the other way around.
