When I started with a new shoe as a cadet, I would often use either rubbing alcohol or low heat (oven or even hot sun) to open the pores. Next, use leather die, which actually makes it look ugly. Then I started the shining process, very similar to your steps here. Thanks!

Actually, I misspoke a little. If I had a new pair of shoes, isopropyl alcohol would strip the factory shine. Then leather dye, and then build a new layer of wax. If you did this, though, I wouldn't try to fire shine unless you have hundreds of layers of wax. But rubbing alcohol will strip wax for sure - which you may want to do if there is a big problem and you want to start over.

@@cadetpierce2658 If you do Encampment with a parade at the end, then it will probably result in scuffed, dusty shoes that would need to be replaced!
