    I just purchased the CX Class medium and it is by far the best most comfortable mattress I’ve ever owned.

    Thank you for this video! I’ve watched a few of your videos, and they’ve been very informative. I prefer a plush mattress that still offers good support. Generally, I’ve liked the hybrid models, but I recently tested the Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt Soft and really liked it. However, I haven’t been able to find the Beautyrest KX Plush. Do you have any insights on which of these two mattresses might be better? Thank you.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, thanks for your question (and your kind words!). These two mattresses are actually quite similar, with the main difference being in the support layer of the mattress. I would not be able to tell you that one is universally better or worse than the other, since that would be misleading. However I can give you a side by side comparison that will let you see exactly how they differ. I think you'll find them similar enough that if one works for you, both will probably work for you. But on the margin, you might find one or two features that make the tie-breaker in your case. Here it is: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=tempur-luxeadapt-soft&mod=beautyrest-black-hybrid-kx-class-plush

      @@goodbed I am curious to this answer as well. I really wish you could build-a-bed. I just want a nice firm set of coils with a quilt type covering. I can add my own topper to it and replace that every few years. Ugh. Simplicity is what we need.

    I have a Stearns and Foster Hybrid (Plush). It started sagging in a few months in the hip area and developed big sink holes. I loved the confirming and pressure reliving of the mattress, but it broke down in less than a year. I am wondering if the Black Hybrid KX would be a better bed but still with similar confirmation...?!? Any insights would be so helpful. I am able to switch beds but don't know what to do!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Sorry we missed this one. These are relatively similar mattresses, but we'd probably give the slight edge to the Black hybrid on account of the T3 coil unit. This is a triple-braided design that we'd expect to be just about the most durable coil unit in the industry. Hope that helps.

  • @BillyJohnson-s2h
    @BillyJohnson-s2h ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Fantastic review. However, I will disagree with Beautyrest and yourself. Taking 3 strands to make “1” real to size actual coil, is not and should never be marketed as “3” I find that to be very deceptive and misleading to customers If Beautyrest honestly felt the T3 was factually 3 coils. They would’ve done that from the very beginning they never have. Using the old cop out excuse that everyone else is doing it so we should to, is really sad on Beautyrest part. Shows the direction the company is heading and why I will not buy another one.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Billy -- Thanks for your comment. That is certainly an understandable reaction. FWIW, the reason we think this is reasonable has less to do with other companies doing the same thing and more to do with the fact that what actually matters when it comes to coils is how much overall steel is used.
      This is why all else being equal, a mattress with a higher coil count offers stronger support and more durability than one with a lower coil count. It's also why all else being equal, coils that use a lower gauge (ie, thicker) wire offer more support and durability. And likewise, all else being equal, coils that have more working turns (ie, a longer wire that is turned more times to reach the same height) offer more support and durability.
      So, broadly speaking, all else being equal, more steel equals more support and durability. And having 3 strands of wire woven together to create a T3 coil certainly uses way more steel (roughly 3x more) than a normal coil.
      So if, like most people, you're using coil count as a proxy for support and/or durability, I certainly think it's fair (if not MORE appropriate) to count the T3's as 3 coils.
      I hope that's helpful.

    • @RealJerb

      @@goodbed from the looks of it, I don't believe that is three times more steel in each coil at all. It looks like the strands they're using are much thinner than the average coil. They're certainly thicker overall than the average coil but by maybe a factor of .5 and that could just be a result of the coil "looking" thicker due to it not being solid piece of metal and actually having space spiraling up between the coils. I went in held one yesterday at a mattress firm where they had an example spring.
      However I didn't hold a normal spring but I don't see how a normal coil could be much thinner than this and still be structurally stable. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like it's just a marketing technique and not actually a significant improvement. I feel like a thicker gauge would have just been better but to save costs they just cut the same spring material into three different parts and then rewove it together

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RealJerb Thanks for your comment. I think part of the disconnect you're having is the wire used in mattress springs can indeed be a lot thinner than you might imagine. Put another way, the girth of the twisted strand is much bigger than a single wire would be in a typical coil spring. And as you can see at 2:02 in the video, there is no space between the wires in the twisted strand.
      But if you remain doubtful, the strength of these coils can be substantiated with the support they provide, which is part of what we assess in our testing. The Beautyrest Black coil units have very firm support relative to an average pocket spring mattress --and that is with the T3 coils being used only in every other row. This demonstrates how much stronger they are than an average coil.
      Bottom line, it sounds like you're pretty skeptical, and you're right to be since there certainly is a lot of BS in mattress marketing. But FWIW, if I thought this particular feature was a "marketing technique" and nothing more, I would say that. But that isn't what I think.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Overall, what is Beautyrest brand’s Signature Cushioning depth?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question, and sorry we missed this one earlier. There is really no such thing as a signature Cushioning Depth across an entire brand. Along with Softness, Cushioning Depth is something that varies model to model even within a given product line (like Beautyrest Black) or collection (like Beautyrest Black Hybrid), let alone across an entire brand (like Beautyrest). I hope that's helpful.

    What are your thoughts in regards to coil on coil matresses?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey again Rebecca! So coil-on-coil designs are interesting for two reasons: first, they tend to offer a little bit more conformance with regards to a person's body contours. We tend to call this conformance "cushioning depth" in our nomenclature. Second, the pocket springs used in coil-on-coil designs tend to be a bit more durable than a similar amount of pure foam.
      That said, sometimes manufacturers use coil-on-coil designs as a way of artificially elevating coil count, so be aware of that too. I hope that's helpful!

    What's the difference between the Hybrid CX Class Plush and the C Class Plush Pillowtop? It is my understanding that the top layer in the hybrid is memory foam, and the top layer in the C Class (not hybrid) is latex.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Generally, the hybrid options have a smooth, stretch knit cover with an immediate sensation of memory foam, whereas the traditional Pillowtops have a more "conventional" feel of soft polyurethane foam. Additionally, the latex tends to be deeper down into the layers, and not at the surface itself. This is usually due to the fact that even soft latex can feel firm relative to similarly soft poly foam.

      Hi Christina. Wow, that's extremely different from the one we tested. What you are describing DOES sound like the KX Firm though. You can see both at about 18:50 in the video. The Firm version is quite rigid even when you slap it. On the Plush version, your elbows can push right into it super easily. I'm wondering if you perhaps got a Firm. I would certainly recommend checking the label to be sure. If not, then the one you got used some very different foams than the one we tested. Some amount of manufacturing variance is not surprising, but this amount would be very surprising to me.

    Is a coil or foam edge better in terms of longevity, support, and cooling?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent question. It really depends on your priorities. Though there is *some* data that suggests that a coil edge is more durable in the long-term. That said, many people prefer the firm sense of a hard foam edge and feel that this provides firmer support. And with regards to cooling - a pocketed coil should generally perform better here since it affords more airflow, though we are not aware of a laboratory test that directly compared these two features in terms of long-term heat retention.

      @@johnhaddon6109 We haven't heard too much about these yet, so if you're looking for a mattress now, the current hybrids would likely be the better options. And in terms of Plush - the current Black Plush models are pretty soft! You might also give the regular (non-hybrid) versions a shot. There's often very little difference between "hybrids" and "non-hybrids" in today's market, as both of these are likely to use some amount of memory foam and pocketed coils. Still, "hybrids" tend to have a smooth-top cover and more of a pronounced memory foam feel overall, if that's your preference.

    Im interested in putting the "KX Firm" on an adjustable frame (The Ergo ProSmart to be exact). My question is multi parts, so bear with me lol. 1st, would the coils get damaged from constant flexing from the frame? And 2nd, due to the 15" thickness of the mattress, would the adjustable frame either struggle to position the bed, or even not be able to position it properly?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Great question. Generally speaking, we would not expect the flex of the frame to damage the internal coils. However, these might increase the wear on the foam layers slightly and decrease their durability in the long-run. Similarly, keeping a 15" thickness in a position that is flexed will likely cause the fabric and foam to bunch up slightly at maximum flexion. For most, this does not affect comfort, but if you're sensitive to these things we'd advise you to look at it in a store first.
