No sign of the ld CIE and the mandatory second man.
I learned to drive hgvs in the mid sixties in Cork at about 19 years. Firstly, with a new Bedford TK tipper and later with a Guy six wheel tipper pulling a 4 wheel trailer carrying about 26 tonnes of beet. No such thing as drivers hours or weight limits. In the busy times a 20 hour day wasn't unusual. No extra pay though.

Used to catch the Cairnryan-Larne ferry every now n then. Learned quite quick to pull into 1st layby i could if i was one of the 1st off the boat as my 480 XF was no match for that lads.....

I remember being in mc elvaney s scania in 91 and they were prepin a scania fir VB. nearly sure it's de same lorry at. 1.26. Some lorry to get the keys of in 91.

Without those trucks and drivers we would have been a lot poorer my uncles all tramped to England and Ireland one even died in his truck in England it was a shit job
But they got on with it so thanks to all of them past and future truckers respect keep er lit

Hi you bring back so many memories I use to take photos of trucks at henlys corner on the North circular road in finchley on a Sunday and you would see all the old firms what are no more thank again for the memories ,

I had a couple of Scanias pulling for Interland myself. before that I drove for Jimmy McMordie pulling Interland fridges. down the 75 full of the pipe with about 20 drops of bacon and beef from Carlisle to Poole and everywhere in between.
