  • In this cold process soap making tutorial, I show you how to do a pipe divider swirl including all the equipment you need and suitable alternatives if you can't get plastic pipes or a slab mold.
    I have produced a spreadsheet that will calculate the amount of soap you need to make this soap and how to split it between the pipes and surrounding mold, in the video, I tell you where you can download this from completely free of charge.
    I try to give lots of hints and tips in all of my videos, so hopefully, you can use some of the techniques in this cold process soap making tutorial in your own soap making.
    Other videos you might find useful relating to this video:

The information given is based on what works for me, however, there are lots of variables associated with cold process soap making and I therefore, take no responsibility for the results achieved when using the techniques or methods explained in these tutorials. Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

      Hi Lisa. I downloaded the calculator to use. I am not sure where I am erring on using the calculation template so I thought I would reach out. I’ve inputted all the bright yellow boxes. For some reason no values are showing up for the final 4 locked cells that are highlighted in green, orange and bluish. Also on my end line 23 lines up with total soap and not line 22 as indicated on instruction. Any ideas?

Thank you so much, I have just gone in and realised that when I went in the other day to remove my pre-entered figures as I thought they could be confusing, I deleted the formulae(Doh!!), I've also changed the reference to row 22. Great tutorial! thank you for sharing your entire process & spreadsheet!!! 👍🏻😃 I’ve wanted to try this technique but avoided it because it looks like so much work. But maybe I’ll have a go of it with some cardboard tubes and a small mold.

    Hi, first of all thanks a ton for your videos.. it is very informative and useful.. one of the best in you tube.. I just started watching your videos and I am trying to find soap making videos for beginner level but I couldn't? I could find the very basics and then straight to the designs? Have you put any videos for beginners?

      Hi Madhu, I have started a series called 'you can make this soap' It's still new but I'm producing videos with lots of detail and help, but these are still 'designs' I haven't made a here's a basic soap video as there are lots of those out there, but I do have videos on how to prepare all your oils and lye, how to mix titanium dioxide etc, that sort of thing. I'm not sure if these are what you are after and I'm always keen to hear suggestions of what people would like. Best wishes - Lisa

      Hi Robyn. I just cut them with a hand saw, I wrap some tape around the pipe so the saw doesn't slip and then I sand the ends

      Hi Anasko, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I am in no way an expert on 3D printers but I did do a lot of research. Here's a link to the one I purchased. I have been very pleased with it it has given me no problems at all and does what I ask it to do. However I have nothing to compare it to but If someone asked (like you have) I would recommend it. I am a motorcyclist, I race a Triumph Daytona 675 and do track days.
      The link is for Amazon in the UK, not sure where you are, but at least you can see which one it is www.amazon.co.uk/Large-Intelligent-Industrial-Grade-Printer/dp/B07GPNFZX9

    Lisa, do you change your water to lye ratio when you need a more fluid batter? Or do you just mix to an emulsion and then work quickly before the batter begins to harden?

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Michael. I always stay with the same ratio. In the UK when we have our soaps safety assessed we are not allowed to change our recipe (even the water amount) so you spend a good time working out a batter that will stay fluid for a long time, and I always just mix to emulsion, pre disperse my micas in oil so I can just stir them in

    • @michael7324
      @michael7324 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IDreamInSoap Ah yes, I understand. My plan is to make a soap with a straight bottom layer, and then a swirl of some sort on the top half. I'm sure Ill figure it out if I just watch more great soaping videos. Thank you and stay safe.

    Love the design Lisa. Why are you using only 72% oils. Wouldn't it be 100%

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Liz, thank you so much. The 72% is the amount of oil in the total recipe, so as well as having oil, the recipe has water, lye and fragrance oil. Best wishes, Lisa

    • @Axcountry1
      @Axcountry1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IDreamInSoap Hi Lisa. . . what is the calculation for how to discover the % of oil? I thought I had it and put in at 75% in the spreadsheet, but the total batter did not match up in soapcalc. Then I put in 72% by trial and error, and it all added up perfectly in soapcalc and on the spreadsheet. . . except that I'm totally unsure of how I got 72%? Obviously, this is a calculation that must be done beforehand, since you need to put the weight of oils from the spreadsheet into soapcalc. Ironically, I've used the spreadsheet before without issue and somehow managed to do this calculation before, but cannot, for the life of me, remember how the heck I did it!

      Hey Christine, if you go to the download page on my website, click on the green button underneath the pipe divider swirl picture, it should either just open on screen, you can then click save as, or a message will pop up when you click on the button asking you what you want to do with it. It's an excel spreadsheet so believe it will only work on a Windows pc not a mac. Hope this helps :-)

    Why did you put in the oven.....?.... it’s it coal or it is just a method because here it’s over 23 degrees centigrade?....

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Margarita. I do it to ensure my soap goes through gel phase. I use quite a big water discount, which makes it harder for soap to gel, so by popping it in the oven I can ensure it always gels and I don't risk any partial gel. I hope you and your family are staying well at this difficult time
